I always admired Don Ameche when watching old movies he was acting in. He always played respectful roles, at least to my knowledge,, and I never tired of him. When I found he was in a movie, I naturally had to see it, whether at home or in the movie houses. He was so likeable, so refreshing.

Thanks for rerunning the A&E Biography episode of Don Ameche. I've often thought that Ameche was one of the few famous people that one would want to have for a neighbor. That judgment still stands.

My favorite tear jerking moment in Heaven Can Wait is when Don pulled a book off his shelf that reminded him of his late wife. 😢

It's unfortunate that the special forgot to mention one of his important final roles was providing the voice of Shadow the elderly Golden Retriever in the 1993 Disney classic Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey.

He just seems like a really good man. There really aren't that many around. It's funny because he looks great without a moustache, but i only recognize him with one😂

A 1500 dollar starting salary in 1935? The average house cost about 6 grand in the 1930's. That's 25% of a new house every week.. The average price of a house in 2022 is about 348,000 dollar. 25% of that is roughly 87 grand.. That would be 4.5 million dollars a year.

$1,500 in 1935 gives you the purchasing power in 2022 of just under $33,000. So he would basically be making about a $132,000 a month under contract if it were the case today. Money went a lot further back then, in the case of purchasing power. I always felt that early actors were overpaid in spite of how talented and gifted some of them actually were. As far as some making millions per picture now I still feel it's the case. The person who really suffered apparently was his wife. She was stuck at home by herself and with children to take care of he was around very little. There's no doubt that he was talented and could mean a box office success for any film that he were in but it's sad the family life had to suffer.
