The city has gone downhill due to poor leadership. It has one of highest unemployment rates in the state due to the Housing Authority's decision to give housing to people from other city's which led to the increase in crime due to drugs. The neighboring suburbs refuse to unite with the city due to massive crime and abandoned homes and building s leading to blight. Being a lifelong resident, it is a shame how this city has gone the way of the bison.
As a Clevelander … I understand one true fact… some cities are bigger than their population stats say. Great vid! My moms family grew up in “little “ Washington PA.
I live almost a stone throw from Johnstown, Pa .. It’s so very, very, very sad that over 2000 people Lost there lives there. Mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and children, baby’s in the terrible flood. It bothers me to this very day and I was nowhere near being born yet. But it still affect me
There might be some small pockets of the mill still putting out some small amount of still which are privately owned. But generally steel making in Johnstown is dead.
Great city with great residents. Being going out there to the motorcycle rally for years. Rally is in late June every year, except 2020 due to the Planneddemic. Awessome riding out there.
This is not the same Johnstown of the steel mill era ….. no one is really to blame other than the cycle of economics. The only way out of the doldrums this city has faced over the last 45 yrs would be to utilize that river and mountainous area for some sort of large scale recreation destination .
I had to leave Johnstown in the early 80s because of jobs I couldn't get one. But this video is a disgrace whoever wrote it ought to have a eulogy with it and bury it at the Grandview Cemetery
Born and raised here. Left in 86. Don't regret it one bit.
All The Right Moves. Nice to see this video / in real time.
Lots of cool industrial history in this town

Any time a city's people turn to "leadership" to solve a problem, it'll get worse, especially if it's government "leadership."

@@hightops77That’s what folks say about here. In Maryland..... I Know a lot of people who left and just like there not come back
The housing is very affordable there.
Is the Steel Mill still operating?
Their website indicates it is.
Some are. It's not the same since Bethlehem Steel left after the 1977 flood.
Sad to when all the trains running died as well.
Yes it is

Johnstown is a nice place but needs more funding.
