- In 1994 I drove from Austin, Texas to visit my home town of Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
The town was about 1/3 the size it had been in 1961, and, sadly, was still shrinking.
Here's a nostalgic drive into and around Johnstown and the suburb where I lived, Westmont. It's still pretty!
If you're from there, can you name the streets you see?
If you pause right at 2:45 when the driver goes by the road that leads to the country club there is a stone house on the corner. I used to cut their grass. This was much later in 2012-2017.
Mill Creek is Johnstown's micro- Mille Miglia (an old race on public roads in Italy that had truly scary turns. The Mille Miglia was banned after too many wrecks.) My buddy and I used to get frisky on our MCs on Mill Creek.
I am a Johnstown native but I haven't been back to penna in many years. I don't miss the cold weather & humidity but I do miss the summer rains, fall & first snow. I live in ca.
I'm in S. CA now, too.
I also miss the mountains and fresh water in the streams.
I worked there again from 2006 - 2009, living in Uniontown and visitng Johnstown bi-weekly. I'm pretty old now, so I don't know if "ll go back. The place has gone downhill, economically, too.
Good memories, though.
Yup. Menoher, at 0:42 you cross St. Clair Road. I grew up a mile down the road on the left, on Windan Lane.
At 1:51 you approach Goucher St. At 3:20 Menoher forks off to the left into Luzerne St, another place I grew up. After you turn onto Luzerne you pass the Middle School and Stackhouse park. At 4:28 you pass the Church on the left, and the red house next to it where I lived in the late 90's.
At 5:00 you turn left on Colgate! I lived on Colgate as well, on the other size of Luzerne.
I'm going to watch the rest of the video later, but this is trippy to watch. I was 7 years old living in Westmont when you filmed this, and I haven't seen these streets in person in over 10 years. Thanks for posting this!
My grandma jumped out of a second-story window at the Stutzman school. In its stead of a Rite-aid, I think. I played basketball at that court a few times. Oh, nostalgia!
Wow!
I take it Grandma was a kid then & made it OK.
Haha, I read what I had typed, not fixing the possible confusion of it. Yes, she was a kid and came away unscathed.
You might also be interested that her maiden name was Johns.
Haha! Yeah.
And yes, that's an important name for Johnstown!
Wanted to see the Old Log Cabin, Located at the bottom of Hawes Pike. Think the heavy snows finally did it in though!
I could easily tell you where anything is in Westmont, I know to streets like the back of my hand thanks to daily bike ride, like I have lived here for only a year and a half.
you still like it? hows the bike riding? bet you ride alot inside
You left the best part out unless it's probably in another video man that was 4 years ago that you posted it 24 from today's date I know all the streets needless to say brings back some memories if I drive down there today it probably the same way you probably have the easy grade closed off because of cleaning rocks off the road but it seems like it's always closed because of that but I'm sure I know it's not it's every few years so it does close down nice video
Wow everything has changed I haven't been there for about 25 years now
The video is 27 years old.
@@KutWrite duh ik that but I still haven't been in jtown for 25 yrs
It really changed sad here in johntown
Not really honestly. The only thing that is different in this video and now is some cut down trees, a cvs, a new school, and some paint colors on houses.
Gorgeous tree lined streets. I'm not sure what the purpose of this video is. You're just basically talking to yourself and remembering where so and so lived etc. I would have liked it to be a little more informative to the general public. Would have liked to have seen downtown. But the neighborhood streets were just beautiful.
When I recorded this, RUclips didn't exist. I mainly recorded it for myself and my sister to review.
Can I use some of this footage in a video of mine?
Yes, if you give me attribution in the closing credits and make a copy of your video available to me (on RUclips is OK).
My Name: Daniel G. Kuttner
