Thanks for sharing this video. My doctor prescribed me amlodipine 10mg for my 180/90 HBP. It didn't reduce my HBP...then she suggested me to take it twice a day...2 months after, i started have headache, fatigue, insomnia, skin rash, anxiety..and so many bad things happened to me And i live in miserable for 1 year by taking it...really really bad...then accidentally i watched a video about magnesium and how it coralate to blood pressure..then i started taking magnesium 300mg a day, d3 5000iu k2 90 mcg..never feel better like this before...i off the amlodipin very slowly...not sure it is good or not..but my BP is arround 120/75 without taking it..sometimes lower and sometimes up to 125/80...it has been 8 months..now all the sides effect are gone except rash..but it is also almost gone..
Thank you for sharing your experience. Yea, if your magnesium levels are too low, your blood pressure can become high. Seems like your blood pressure is back in control. Well done!!!! That is amazing!

I have a rare blood cancer and I was on amlodipine 10 mg. . I was on an expensive shot for my cancer. I started loosing blood nose bleeds and my legs hurt to walk and I wound up getting a blood transfusion. I almost died until my heart doctor took me off of it and the baby aspirin and after a week I was so much better. It’s been a year and am still doing ok.

Hi Beverley, please remeasure your blood pressure, see if it is too low and also dizziness can be caused by many things. if it is still there and not going away, you need to go back and see the doctor.
Hi Romualda, you need to talk to your doctor about this ASAP and sus out what is causing the breathing problem, and treat it accordingly. It may or may not be due to amlodipine.
Hi Jay Dee, have you told your doctor about this? The doctor might consider changing your medication? You can also try buying mouth rinses, artificial saliva or moisturizers to lubricate your mouth. These can be purchased from your local pharmacy.
I have been taking it for over a year. Recently I notice dizziness , joint and muscle pain. This morning I felt like my head was spining and while driving home I felt it again...luckily I wasn't driving. I think it's time to discontinue
Hi Warrior, if you have been taking it for a while and only experience this now, I don't think it is amlodipine. You need to go and see your doctor asap. There are treatments for that. After that you can work out with your doctor if amlodipine is causing that... weigh out risk and benefit of taking amlodipine. Your blood pressure needs to be controlled, very important. If it is amlodipine that causes what you describe which sounds like vertigo, you and your doctor may look into other options to control your blood pressure. or what ever reason you are using amlodipine. Hope this helps

I took a amlodipine 10mg for 6 years-I had the problems of getting my finger ends very soft and also mine male organ which leaded to Erectile Dyfunction - changed the the pill everything was OK but BP was rising-tried one year many medicines but no use ...now taking Coversyl 8 mg plus Hydrochlorothiaazide 25 mg but BP is controlled after adding Amlodipine 2.5 mg BUT again started the softening and ED-What is recommended..?
Hi Rahi, go back and see your doctor again, he might be able to change you to other classes of blood pressure medication that is less likely to cause ED.
Recently realized I’d been suffering a reaction to amlodipine for years, most prominently a rash on my lower legs. Had both a scape and punch biopsy in the dermatologist department of a local hospital. They couldn’t diagnose the cause. It wasn’t a disease. Doctors shouldn’t be allowed to prescribe meds without first having a good understanding of side effects. I finally realized what was happening to me by seeing a RUclips video. By then I was suffering from other side effects, many of which were named in this video. Thank you for posting it. You’re providing an important public service!
I get back pain from taking it. Unfortunately, I have no choice. I have tried everything. I have even tried combinations of everything else available. This is the only thing that lowers my blood pressure so I'm stuck
In the past few months I've been getting a odd rash. Mainly on my lower legs. At first I thought it was keto rash as I did the keto diet for a few months. The rash continued on after I stopped the keto diet. In the past few weeks I saw something about the side effects from amlodipine. I stopped taking it about two weeks ago and the rashes have now started to ease up and seem to be finally healing. I've been monitoring my blood pressure.
Hi Darthduress, thank you for sharing. It is always a benefit and risk ratio that doctors your weighing. Speak to your doctor see if he could change your blood pressure medication into something else and if the rash goes away, then it might be amlodipine. Rash won’t kill you, but high blood pressure can, you need to remember this. If amlodipine is a must, although not ideal, there are things that can control the rash. Work with your doctor to come out with the best solution, to have your blood pressure controlled and also no rash. Hope all is sorted out soon Darthduress.
Hi Rhaspun, good that you are monitoring your blood pressure. There are many other blood pressure medication out there. Your doctor can prescribe other medication that will not cause the problem. Sometimes it is the brand of teh amlodipine that is the problem. Try switching brands.
Hello Nixo, pulse rate can go up and down dependent on your emotions, what your are doing at that moment and it changes through out the day. If your pulse is constantly at this rate, you can see the doctor if something is wrong and if you need any medication.
You failed to mention a common and life-threatening side affect which sends patients to A&E, sometimes for surgery due to blocked bowels, known as bowel obstruction.
Hi Edward, I would not be able to list all side effects on one video. But all side effects list would be the consumer leaflet. I believe this one is a very very rare one. Thank you for your input Edward
I had the Amlodipine generic version for 6 months. Nausea and vomitting symptoms showing up. My family doctor then switched me to a brand name version. The result was excellent and my blood pressure began to drop slowly.
@@benjaminanjorin-ohu9105 I am not surprised that you have a different experience from mine. I have a friend who has been using Amlodipine (the same generic version as I had been using) for over 5 years and he didn’t have any side effect at all. I maybe just an individual case. In my case, I began to feel nauseous only after about a week taking the Amlodipine. The nausea feeling got worse and worse and day after day. Eventually vomiting taking place even when it was about time to take the medication( but not yet taken ). After 6 months of this suffering and without improvements to my high blood pressure. I told my family doctor about it and I was switched to a BRAND name Amlodipine. It immediately showed great differences in both not having any side effects and improving my blood pressure from 155/95 to 125/77 after 6 months. I wish you good luck and stay healthy.
Hi Zara, you may have developed an allergic reaction. You need to go back and tell your doctor about that and try and work out what is cause the itches.
Hello NoSunBeach, no, not at all, it is suppose to reduce your blood pressure. Are you taking any grapefruit or grape fruit juice? That can make your blood pressure rise while on amlodipine
My cardiologist prescribed 5 mg. of amlodipine besylate 6 months ago for my HBP. After 3 weeks I started feeling dizzy. I cut the pill in half (2.5 mg) and have stayed with that ever since. I recently got a rash on my wrist that keeps growing. Now I'm thinking it could be from the amlodipine. I didn't tell my doctor that I lowered the dosage. Not sure what I should do now.
I appreciate all this info as someone who has just started having to take this medication and even more than that I have such a high appreciation of people who learn multiple languages.

I take Amlodipine. It helps lower my BP. I'm going only 4th year of a Kidney transplant. I will be sucribe to you channel because you explain things in ways I can understand.
Hi Nomhle, amlodipine don’t usually cause cough. I suggest you speak to your doctor to work out the cause of the cough and get it treated. It may or may not be caused by amlodipine. It is more likely to be caused by another type of high blood pressure medication ace inhibitors. And again many reasons for cough to happen, need to work out what it is.
I have never taken tablets, except aspirin, (very occasionally). About 4 years ago, my doctor wanted me to go on Amlodipine tablets. Reading the long list of warnings, I saw that you should not have grapefruit while taking Amlodipine. Because grapefruit does what the Amlodipine does. So, I now have a glass of grapefruit juice a day, INSTEAD. And I eat slightly more sensibly....less fats. Makes more sense to me!! Edit....I had just sent this when Soonkie mentioned the Grapefruit thing near the end of her video!!
Hi Nairda, thank you for sharing. But, I think you need to go back and see your doctor to recheck your blood pressure. Because I am not very sure how well grape fruit lowers blood pressure and there are no symptoms when you have high blood pressure, when you realize, it will be a heart attack or a stroke. How grape fruit interacts with amlodipine is, it stops an enzyme called cytochrome p450 to metabolize amlodipine, thus allowing more “active amlodipine” in the blood stream.and because there is more “active amlodipine”, it’s like taking more amlodipine thus in further reduces blood pressure which is not expected during the invention of this medication. That’s why grapefruit juice is discouraged to be taken with amlodipine because it is harder to monitor the effects. I am trying to make it as layman language as possible, I hope it makes sense. I am just worried your blood pressure is not properly controlled and may lead to disaster.
@@soonkiethepharmacist , okay, Soonkie, thanks for your concern, and your good advice. Will have a test when this pandemic is under control. Stay safe.☺️
@@Rachietutu I have no high blood pressure now.....after the 2nd Amlodipine tablet, I got a horrible cramp in my leg, something I have NEVER had before. Now, I eat a little less fats, I have a glass of pink grapefruit juice every day, exercise sensibly for my age (late 70's).....and I feel great. NO tablets required....in the past year, I have had a total of about 18 soluble aspirin and no other medication of any sort.
Hello Felicia, it really depends on your condition. If exercising and lifestyle changes can reverse your condition, then you don’t need it. Don’t stop without consulting your doctor.
Thanks maam for sharing also me amlo is my maintainance for almost 10 yrs and now my finger.knee feel ache .i want to stop taking my med now can u help me or advice me on your next vidio thanks and god bkess u always.
If the doctor prescribe both of them to you, it’s so that it could control your blood pressure more as one doesn’t do it enough. Sometime blood pressure can get too low, if you constantly feeling dizzy and it doesn’t settle are a few days of starting these meds, go back and see the doctor, they would need to adjust the dose. I wouldn’t worry about combination side effects. However if you are feeling unwell, you need to go back to and see your doctor. Lisinopril sometimes can cause persistent dry cough. And I wouldn’t take too much bananas, while on these two med as both of them retain potassium in the body and bananas are high in potassium. Too much potassium can cause irregular heart beat and other heart problems. Occasional bananas are fine.
@@soonkiethepharmacist thanks for the info, you are amazing you do so many things, very smart ,play music n sing like an angel, and great sense of humor, very glad that I found your channel, have a great day
Hi Bhong2, I usually would not simply recommend any supplements to anyone, unless an actual blood test is being done, we only recommend things that you need from looking at your blood test results. Blood tests are usually initiated by your local GP once a year to make sure everything is fine with you or if you are presented with any symptoms where the doctor deems a blood test is necessary. When you have a medical condition, the doctor would need to monitor your condition together with everything you are taking, this includes all your vitamins, minerals any herbal product you buy without the script. So your doctor will advise accordingly what vitamin or mineral you need to take in addition. I will only recommend a multivitamin to people who have no medical conditions and not on any medication and who are eating poorly and not eating a balanced diet. Because over-consuming multivitamins and minerals can be harmful to the body as well.
The sexual side effect in males from this drug is simply the price one pays for remaining alive IMO. There is a lot of talk about finding “the right drug.” In talking with others and internet research, it seems this search for the “right drug” for HBP that doesn’t leave one limp without recourse is false hope and chasing rainbows promulgated by the medical profession writ large. I am genuinely interested in hearing what you have to say and thank you for this video.
Hi Todd, there is a general guide that doctors follow when prescribing blood pressure medication. They will usually start with an ace inhibitor, such as perindopril, or a angiotensin 2 inhibitor like valsartan. If these doesn’t work they will then add in a beta blocker, and if that still hasn’t bring the blood pressure down, they will and then add in a calcium channel blocker...etc.. a lot to consider, which to use, which not to use. How high the blood pressure is, What stage of high blood pressure the patient is already, have they had a heart attack, stroke already, do they have other medical condition, are they experiencing side effects etc. of course, there is also an element of preference in the industry, which country you are in and if the drug company has put an effort into marketing to doctors in the area.
@@soonkiethepharmacist Thank you for your reply. I apologise if my post was a bit over the top. In recent days I’ve had an unwelcome wake up call surrounding serious issues related to HBP. Awash in emotion facing down realities of increase age and decreasing abilities that self delusion perhaps, held at bay for a good long time. Silly human tricks. Do you have vids about those drugs you mentioned? Are they experienced as “better” or “worse” in effects or side effects? I was prescribed Amlopine in exactly the reverse order of what you suggest. I was at high risk. Perhaps that’s a reason? What’s readable suggest Amlopine is tried and true, although perhaps it’s marketing skews the actual situation as you suggest. Many considerations as you said, so, not to tax you too much about this. You’re a Jewel Sookie. Hearts to you fellow human. Thanks for your time.
Hello Todd, you know you can always question the doctor yea? Say you searched online and was interested in the thoughts of how and why he prescribed certain medication. And you can always ask for a second opinion. There are many doctors out there. No your message is not over the top at all. It’s good that you ask. I would do the same if I have concerns. This is an Australian prescribing guide. You can check out drug choices section. www.heartfoundation.org.au/getmedia/c83511ab-835a-4fcf-96f5-88d770582ddc/PRO-167_Hypertension-guideline-2016_WEB.pdf I encourage you to see another doctor and tell him your concern. And tell him what the other doctor have give you.
@@soonkiethepharmacist I will and thank you so much. The Amlopine I was recently represcribed just was horrible.serious dizzy, stomach upset dead hand and feet, brains fog and fatigue but sleeplessness fall just 2 hrs after taking There is the reality of having to work and my work reququires focus. Very sensitive to ANY drug , I have always been. Hoping a starting micro dose of ACE will be a path to success for me
This drug has also given me sexual side effects. They say its rare with amlodopine, but I beg to differ. The problem is it has such a long half life it takes 11 days to get out of your system so I don't dare try to go off it to see if thats truly the cause.
Hm… sometimes, I do see dose reduction. So it is possible if other factors eg, eating very healthy, reduce all your salt intake, exercise and all of it results in a drop of blood pressure. Don’t stop unless your doctor ask you to.
Hi Marietta, don’t stop amlodipine without checking with your doctor, because you need your blood pressure under control as well, otherwise you risk having a heart attack, stroke or kidney disease. Go see your doctor and tell him what’s going on, if it is amlodipine that is causing your insomnia, he might be able to swap you for another high blood pressure medication
I took my medicine àt night and couldn't sleep,so the pharmacist told me to take in the morning. Now I can sleep. But it sure makes my pulse drop from 60 to 45, that's on the lower dosage. Still not feeling good,I have only took this medicine for 2 months.
WOW if you worked at my local pharmacy I would have so many questions about my medication. On a serious note I`ve taken Amlodipine for a couple of years and have just recently had the swelling feet thing.

What about muscle pain in legs - all muscles, and restless legs? Could it be Amlodipine? My GP isn't interested but some nights I get no sleep because of it. My bloods are normal.
Hello, they may have an interaction, however it might not be significant enough. If the doctor prescribe both together, take them both, and if you feel unwell, let the doctor know. Work with the doctor to monitor your progression
I used to avoid salt because I lived on highly processed highly salted foods. Now that I’ve gone to natural Whole Foods (keto) I can add healthy salt with minerals and it doesn’t affect me. Before keto and eating healthy, I was on metoprolol, losartan, diuretic, and amlodipine. I am now on no blood pressure medicines.
My mother is prescribed amlodipine besylate 10mg. N her blood pressure is still high. Her heart is very big also. I wanna know what can I do to help her. She’s scaring me saying she will die soon.. I wanna help her
Hi Kayla, I am sorry to hear that. you need to bring her back to see the doctor, If her blood pressure is not under control despite the blood pressure medication she is taking. That doctor will increase the dose or add in other medication to bring down the blood pressure
I HAVE ANKLE SWELLING AND WENT TO A VASCULAR APPOINTMENT AND NO PROBLEM WITH MY CIRCULATION....I PEE EVERY HOUR TO 1 1/2 HOURS A NIGHT....SO, WHAT IS CAUSING MY INCREASE URINATION? DIABETES IS RULED OUT
Amlodipine caused me to develop gengival hyperplasia. My teeth shifted out of alignment, undoing years of torturous and expensive orthodontiture. Nobody warned me about this side-effect, that will leave you looking bad, possibly requiring surgery. It is a terrible drug.
I am sorry to hear that. Thank you for sharing. Yes, it’s is a rare side effect. I hope the dentist can do something about this. Have you told your doctor about this, so he switch you to something else.
Hi Janet, I need to see your doctor about the walking problem. If you his started the amlodipine and the walking problem starts, let the doctor know about it.
Please do a review of amiodarone... Was fine for about 4 months... Then the iodine accumulated and I got hyperthyroidism and narcolepsy... Essentially made me go crazy... Try to do a thyroid uptake study and they couldn't because of the iodine in the amiodarone... It's a nasty drug
Hi Farida, your doctor would want you to stick to what if the medication is working for you. Unless you experience side effects or the medication is not giving you the result you want.
Hi Nitz Ching, Norvasc is amlodipine. Norvasc is just a brand.amlodipine comes in many brand. you need to find out what are you allergic to and ask your local pharmacist to help find a brand that does not contain the ingredient that you are allergic to. Your doctor will guide your how to find out what your are allergic to
Hi Francis, you need to speak to the doctor about this. Is the medication causing you breathing problems? If it is, You need to stop and go to the hospital immediately.if might be an allergic reaction.this message is here two days ago. I hope all is well with you
Hi Robbin, if your doctor is aware of your fatty liver disease and still prescribe amlodipine to you, that's fine. if your doctor is not aware of this, please let your doctor know it.
Hi Lester, everyone is different in regards to this. The doctor will prescribe you the most appropriate one to you. As long as you are buying them from a reliable source like your doctor or local pharmacist, I believe it should be fine.
Hi i am taking 2.5mg of amlodipine for 8 months i have experienced chest pain sometime and pain in. My left ankle when getting up in the morning from bed or sitting down after a few walks/steps aches goes away should i stop or change this medicine ?
Hi Rose, you need to talk to your doctor about the chest pain Immediately. It might be angina that could lead to a hear attack. and speak to your doctor about all the aches as well. Do not Stop until you speak to your doctor.
I’ll subscribe just to see your beautiful face and lovely voice. So we exchange overworked heart for swollen legs and feet? Edema? I’m not convinced this is a good trade off. What about taking large doses of specific types of magnesium? And who drinks 1.5 liters of grapefruit juice a day? Maybe if you can stomach 1.5 liters of grapefruit juice, you wouldn’t even have high blood pressure. Just a thought....
Hi Christine, you are very kind. I am assuming you are using this for blood pressure? Depends how your blood pressure is going, if it is really high, and this medication is causing so many side effects, the doctor can change you to something else. I am not sure about magnesium and drinking 1.5 liters of grape fruit juice. But if your blood pressure is not too high, and you can still afford to test this theory out, test it for a week or doing that and see if it lowers your blood pressure. But I would won’t against it, because of lack of scientific evidence and you are taking unnecessary risk. Exercising and reducing and controlling sodium intake can help reduce high blood pressure

Hi mickie, thank you for sharing. I have never heard this before until you said it. there are documentations for amlodipine causing mood swings, I think anger would be classified in that as well. You can also report the adverse reaction to government bodies. Just google adverse reaction report and which country you are from.
I just started taking this and within 2 days I developed hot knees/rash and I continued to take it until day 5 and the rash is on my legs. It only happens if I stand up and sit down or walking around. When I lay down it goes away. I think this medication really messed me up.

What do you mean by sexual effect ? Does it mean you can't be able to have sex ? Please explain . Thanks
I had the Amlodipine generic version for 6 months. Nausea and vomitting symptoms showing up. My family doctor then switched me to a brand name version. The result was excellent and my blood pressure began to drop slowly.
That’s awesome to hear lawburnaby!
I have taken amlodipine for over five years,I can't pinpoint any side effect. Am I negligent ?
I'm having negative side effects from the generic brand too. I wonder if the brand makes a big difference? Obviously, in your case it does.

My cardiologist prescribed 5 mg. of amlodipine besylate 6 months ago for my HBP. After 3 weeks I started feeling dizzy. I cut the pill in half (2.5 mg) and have stayed with that ever since. What side effects are you experiencing?
Thank God...i thru it away 3 months ago
I'm pleased you talking about these Amlodopine I'm taking them for so long now they changed in to the 10+they make me cough a lot
Grapefruit will NOT lower your blood pressure. Don't kid yourself. High blood pressure is no joke.

Hi Soonkie what are side effects of amolodipine and lisinipril together

Is it safe to take amlodipine and centrum silver together in the morning?
she is not a medical doctor....she is only a pharmacist
Hi Bhong2, please reread my previous message. I have edited it!

The sexual side effect in males from this drug is simply the price one pays for remaining alive IMO. There is a lot of talk about finding “the right drug.”
In talking with others and internet research, it seems this search for the “right drug” for HBP that doesn’t leave one limp without recourse is false hope and chasing rainbows promulgated by the medical profession writ large.
