    Thanks for sharing this video. My doctor prescribed me amlodipine 10mg for my 180/90 HBP. It didn't reduce my HBP...then she suggested me to take it twice a day...2 months after, i started have headache, fatigue, insomnia, skin rash, anxiety..and so many bad things happened to me And i live in miserable for 1 year by taking it...really really bad...then accidentally i watched a video about magnesium and how it coralate to blood pressure..then i started taking magnesium 300mg a day, d3 5000iu k2 90 mcg..never feel better like this before...i off the amlodipin very slowly...not sure it is good or not..but my BP is arround 120/75 without taking it..sometimes lower and sometimes up to 125/80...it has been 8 months..now all the sides effect are gone except rash..but it is also almost gone..

      Thank you for sharing your experience. Yea, if your magnesium levels are too low, your blood pressure can become high. Seems like your blood pressure is back in control. Well done!!!! That is amazing!

    I have a rare blood cancer and I was on amlodipine 10 mg. . I was on an expensive shot for my cancer. I started loosing blood nose bleeds and my legs hurt to walk and I wound up getting a blood transfusion. I have been taking it for over a year. Recently I notice dizziness , joint and muscle pain. This morning I felt like my head was spining and while driving home I felt it again...luckily I wasn't driving. I think it's time to discontinue

    • @soonkiethepharmacist
      @soonkiethepharmacist  2 года назад +5

      Hi Warrior, if you have been taking it for a while and only experience this now, I don't think it is amlodipine. You need to go and see your doctor asap. There are treatments for that. After that you can work out with your doctor if amlodipine is causing that... weigh out risk and benefit of taking amlodipine. Your blood pressure needs to be controlled, very important. If it is amlodipine that causes what you describe which sounds like vertigo, you and your doctor may look into other options to control your blood pressure. or what ever reason you are using amlodipine. Hope this helps

    Recently realized I’d been suffering a reaction to amlodipine for years, most prominently a rash on my lower legs. Had both a scape and punch biopsy in the dermatologist department of a local hospital. They couldn’t diagnose the cause. It wasn’t a disease. Doctors shouldn’t be allowed to prescribe meds without first having a good understanding of side effects. I finally realized what was happening to me by seeing a RUclips video. By then I was suffering from other side effects, many of which were named in this video. Thank you for posting it. You’re providing an important public service!

      In the past few months I've been getting a odd rash. Mainly on my lower legs. At first I thought it was keto rash as I did the keto diet for a few months. The rash continued on after I stopped the keto diet. In the past few weeks I saw something about the side effects from amlodipine. I stopped taking it about two weeks ago and the rashes have now started to ease up and seem to be finally healing. I've been monitoring my blood pressure.

    • @soonkiethepharmacist
      @soonkiethepharmacist  2 года назад +4

      Hi Darthduress, thank you for sharing. It is always a benefit and risk ratio that doctors your weighing. Speak to your doctor see if he could change your blood pressure medication into something else and if the rash goes away, then it might be amlodipine. Rash won’t kill you, but high blood pressure can, you need to remember this. If amlodipine is a must, although not ideal, there are things that can control the rash. Work with your doctor to come out with the best solution, to have your blood pressure controlled and also no rash. Hope all is sorted out soon Darthduress.

      @@benjaminanjorin-ohu9105 I am not surprised that you have a different experience from mine. I have a friend who has been using Amlodipine (the same generic version as I had been using) for over 5 years and he didn’t have any side effect at all. I maybe just an individual case. In my case, I began to feel nauseous only after about a week taking the Amlodipine. The nausea feeling got worse and worse and day after day. Eventually vomiting taking place even when it was about time to take the medication( but not yet taken ). After 6 months of this suffering and without improvements to my high blood pressure. I told my family doctor about it and I was switched to a BRAND name Amlodipine. It immediately showed great differences in both not having any side effects and improving my blood pressure from 155/95 to 125/77 after 6 months. I wish you good luck and stay healthy.

      Hi Nomhle, amlodipine don’t usually cause cough. I suggest you speak to your doctor to work out the cause of the cough and get it treated. It may or may not be caused by amlodipine. It is more likely to be caused by another type of high blood pressure medication ace inhibitors. And again many reasons for cough to happen, need to work out what it is.

    I have never taken tablets, except aspirin, (very occasionally). About 4 years ago, my doctor wanted me to go on Amlodipine tablets. Reading the long list of warnings, I saw that you should not have grapefruit while taking Amlodipine. Because grapefruit does what the Amlodipine does. So, I now have a glass of grapefruit juice a day, INSTEAD. And I eat slightly more sensibly....less fats. Makes more sense to me!!
    Edit....I had just sent this when Soonkie mentioned the Grapefruit thing near the end of her video!!

    • @soonkiethepharmacist
      @soonkiethepharmacist  3 года назад +8

      Hi Nairda, thank you for sharing. But, I think you need to go back and see your doctor to recheck your blood pressure. Because I am not very sure how well grape fruit lowers blood pressure and there are no symptoms when you have high blood pressure, when you realize, it will be a heart attack or a stroke. How grape fruit interacts with amlodipine is, it stops an enzyme called cytochrome p450 to metabolize amlodipine, thus allowing more “active amlodipine” in the blood stream.and because there is more “active amlodipine”, it’s like taking more amlodipine thus in further reduces blood pressure which is not expected during the invention of this medication. That’s why grapefruit juice is discouraged to be taken with amlodipine because it is harder to monitor the effects. I am trying to make it as layman language as possible, I hope it makes sense. I am just worried your blood pressure is not properly controlled and may lead to disaster.

    Hi Soonkie what are side effects of amolodipine and lisinipril together

    • @soonkiethepharmacist
      @soonkiethepharmacist  3 года назад +4

      If the doctor prescribe both of them to you, it’s so that it could control your blood pressure more as one doesn’t do it enough. Sometime blood pressure can get too low, if you constantly feeling dizzy and it doesn’t settle are a few days of starting these meds, go back and see the doctor, they would need to adjust the dose. I wouldn’t worry about combination side effects. However if you are feeling unwell, you need to go back to and see your doctor. Lisinopril sometimes can cause persistent dry cough. And I wouldn’t take too much bananas, while on these two med as both of them retain potassium in the body and bananas are high in potassium. Too much potassium can cause irregular heart beat and other heart problems. Occasional bananas are fine.

      Hi Bhong2, I usually would not simply recommend any supplements to anyone, unless an actual blood test is being done, we only recommend things that you need from looking at your blood test results. Blood tests are usually initiated by your local GP once a year to make sure everything is fine with you or if you are presented with any symptoms where the doctor deems a blood test is necessary. When you have a medical condition, the doctor would need to monitor your condition together with everything you are taking, this includes all your vitamins, minerals any herbal product you buy without the script. So your doctor will advise accordingly what vitamin or mineral you need to take in addition. I will only recommend a multivitamin to people who have no medical conditions and not on any medication and who are eating poorly and not eating a balanced diet. Because over-consuming multivitamins and minerals can be harmful to the body as well.

    The sexual side effect in males from this drug is simply the price one pays for remaining alive IMO. There is a lot of talk about finding “the right drug.”
    In talking with others and internet research, it seems this search for the “right drug” for HBP that doesn’t leave one limp without recourse is false hope and chasing rainbows promulgated by the medical profession writ large.
    I am genuinely interested in hearing what you have to say and thank you for this video.

      Hi Todd, there is a general guide that doctors follow when prescribing blood pressure medication. They will usually start with an ace inhibitor, such as perindopril, or a angiotensin 2 inhibitor like valsartan. If these doesn’t work they will then add in a beta blocker, and if that still hasn’t bring the blood pressure down, they will and then add in a calcium channel blocker...etc.. a lot to consider, which to use, which not to use. How high the blood pressure is, What stage of high blood pressure the patient is already, have they had a heart attack, stroke already, do they have other medical condition, are they experiencing side effects etc. of course, there is also an element of preference in the industry, which country you are in and if the drug company has put an effort into marketing to doctors in the area.

      I apologise if my post was a bit over the top.
      In recent days I’ve had an unwelcome wake up call surrounding serious issues related to HBP. Awash in emotion facing down realities of increase age and decreasing abilities that self delusion perhaps, held at bay for a good long time. Silly human tricks.
      Do you have vids about those drugs you mentioned?
      Are they experienced as “better” or “worse” in effects or side effects?
      I was prescribed Amlopine in exactly the reverse order of what you suggest.
      I was at high risk. Perhaps that’s a reason? What’s readable suggest Amlopine is tried and true, although perhaps it’s marketing skews the actual situation as you suggest. Many considerations as you said, so, not to tax you too much about this.

      Hello Todd, you know you can always question the doctor yea? Say you searched online and was interested in the thoughts of how and why he prescribed certain medication. And you can always ask for a second opinion. There are many doctors out there.
      No your message is not over the top at all. It’s good that you ask. I would do the same if I have concerns. This is an Australian prescribing guide. You can check out drug choices section. www.heartfoundation.org.au/getmedia/c83511ab-835a-4fcf-96f5-88d770582ddc/PRO-167_Hypertension-guideline-2016_WEB.pdf

      Hi Christine, you are very kind. I am assuming you are using this for blood pressure? Depends how your blood pressure is going, if it is really high, and this medication is causing so many side effects, the doctor can change you to something else. I am not sure about magnesium and drinking 1.5 liters of grape fruit juice. But if your blood pressure is not too high, and you can still afford to test this theory out, test it for a week or doing that and see if it lowers your blood pressure. But I would won’t against it, because of lack of scientific evidence and you are taking unnecessary risk. Exercising and reducing and controlling sodium intake can help reduce high blood pressure
