I like hearing your explanations. They are different than what is already up and helpful for additional perspective. I'm working on my axel as an adult skater. Been working on it for like a year now.

I wonder Gary if you've ever tried doing Axels in a swimming pool 3 to 5 feet deep. This past week I was in Cincinnati for my 40th wedding anniversary and my hotel had a pool. Instead of swimming laps, I did off-ice in liquid ice (the pool). I did sort of a run through of a program (not sit spins or camel spins). The one thing I was surprised at was that I was able to do 1¼ Axels in the pool. 2 in my run through and 3 more just for the fun of it. Still not skating but playing lots of electric guitar though.

What you said about "the deep edge giving you the automatic rotation" is I think what I have been missing while trying them off ice. I think I'm going to rather progressively learn all pieces on ice (and wheels) because I know that feeling from skateboarding and also after 2 years of hard (fun) training mostly on inline skates, I also think the Loop Jump and Salchow are good examples of that rotation force. Thank you for confirming that edge-rotation relationship to us! I was actually wondering where all that rotational force came from because it is clear it doesn't come from twisting your body and keeping the limbs close alone.

Even though physics is the same regardless of whether you are on blades or rollers, it is more difficult to achieve deep edges on rollers without slipping, huh?

Too early to start rotation. I think it’s a common mistake many skaters do including me. Many many adult skaters struggle full rotation and also stuck with small jump. First we need to jump and then body weight sift to right side. Edge lean create rotation not necessary to be tight position in single axel.
