Well to be fair. Alot of changes come from what they perceive is alot o player feed back alot of us enjoying the game dont complain as much so the illusion of the majority for those that dont understand blame the game etc get heard the most
The aim7f has a very long burn time so you can launch it from a much farther distance. 10 to 15 miles maximum I think.
I got a 18 mile kill once

I was playing air Rb and got a lock on a mig 21 bis sau just after lift off fired at around 31km and got the kill

It feels nice to have so much ammo on f4 phantoms, migs have ~60-120 +-bullets, ridiculous
why? look at how big the phantom is compared to the mig 21😏

At the start, you were locking on chaff, you can know that, because the circle under the radar lock, didnt have a line

The nose-mounted 20mm cannon threw off the F-4's CIG (center of gravity) too much for carrier operations; Navy variants of the plane had to use the gunpod, which affected flight performance. =/
And the colt gunpod is worse than the vulcan
Missiles and radar in war thunder sometimes feels like it is only some RNG stuff. They can miss a super easy target and sometimes like at 10:32 they can even hit after lost radar lock, sometimes aim-9b hits everything and sometime sraam can't even keep up a turn with a large bomber.
Then in some small patch they might make big changes to radar without any patch notes except from unofficial data miner.
If we get F-14 and Aim-54 they will probably go from amazing to useless back and forth with every few updates.
I could be totally wrong but I think that's how AIM-7F's work at 10:32. As long as you're close enough, I think the missile is capable of adapting even with the aircraft's radar being locked on to chaff. Again, I could be entirely wrong.
Youre right the seeker in aim7f doesnt go after chaff
About your trust issues regarding range: If it says its in range, it WILL hit, as long as you dont drop the lock for some reason.
The radar calculates correctly and takes into account if a target is coming at you or flying away from you. With the Fs, you can fire from about 10km and get a kill in a headon, and when the target flies away from you, Id say 3-4 km is enough, it depends on his speed though. If youre both flying with equal maximum speeds (say Mach 1.2) and youre behind him, the range shrinks to about 2km.
The AIM-7F can easily do 20 km in a headon on the deck. 10 km is more what you'd expect as max range out of the 7D, 7E, or Skyflash

I actually achieved the maddest kills with the Aim 7 F in the F4j...i was approaching at Supersonic speed s pair mig 23 heaad on ...i got the wingman locked and fired two aim7Fs toward the wingman one at aproximately 9 km and the second at 5/6 km...note that both missiles were directed to the Mig 23 wingman...somehow the mig 23 leader was flaring and attracted my first aim 7 f wich changed direction and somehow ended splashing the leader wich i never locked while my second aim7Fs completed is inteded course splashing the mig 23 wingman wich both missiles were directed at....and the game signaled X 2 Air Targets destroyed without ever achieving a radar lock on one of the two target and they weren t as close in distance as one could imagine.mad i still got the replay of this....was one of the most wtf moment in war thunder

One of the only differences between the F and the E is the longer range of the F's Basicly the F was the first true BVR missile the US used

U rlly should bind a key to enable ACM Mode, it's labelled as 'within visual range combat' or whatever in the game. Enabling ACM while in PD mode can also extend the range of the ACM (by very far, actually)

Hey Toast, I recommend you bind a key to Select Radar Target so that you can lock exactly the plane you want. It really comes in handy and saves time compared to locking/unlocking and hoping the radar selects the target you want randomly.

I personally think the e-2 are better because there not as fat and can pull more but the 7f just have so much range

I highly suggest you turn off sense of flight to get the camera to align with the actuall attitude of the aircraft makes headtracking even less disorenting and pulling lead easier

somebodies gonna have to explain to me in what world the f4 and mig 21 are equal, especially when i see things like this and the f4 easily outdoes mig 23s by virtue of more missiles with longer ranges. like i know the mig 21 can kill phantoms effectively but i refuse to consider them equals
The early F4s had really bad missiles and the radar was a lot worse. The combination of both makes them nearly useless. So you can argue, that the early F4s are worse than later versions of the Mig 21, especially when they get the highly manouverable R-60.
hey Cap, hope you're fine. quick question... how can I see if the AIM7s are locked on target (using F-4S Phantom) ? in Air RB the lock circle becomes red. in Air Sim there is a way to know if the lock is strong?
and the green square around the target locked on radar... cant see this in my game. is there an option to activate this?
They removed the green square from sim a while back. When you lock a plane, you radar screen will change and you should see that. Some modern planes have the indicator on the HUD too but I don't think this has.
@@CptToastman yeah. The radar does change. But there is no indicator for a good SARH missile lock in the F-4S. Anyway, thanks for the reply man.

Do Aim7F go pitbull? is that how the missile still seemingly tracked after Toast lost tracking?
No, Semi actives (fox-1) can't go pit bull, only active's (fox-3) can. If the radar continues to maintain lock on the chaff, never actually dropping a target lock, the missile could possibly still track the original target, but unlike some will try and tell you, the missile can only continue to track if the target aircraft is still within the cone being painted by the radar for the missile to find its target within, but this cone is not very large, like some say, only a few degrees, nothing massive. In game, it's very broke, in real life, dropping chaff while moving perpendicular was enough to completely screw the missile as the target could very quickly get outside of the painted area, if not drop the lock entirely, especially if it's a PD radar as moving perpendicular is how you notch anyway.

I have the same problems too matey, I don't know how to fix it. Using Dampening mode might help.
Hadn't played WT in months until last week. Spawned the F4U-4B, got a couple kills and RTB for repairs only to get bombed on the runway. Also, the blurry pixilated graphics issue i was having ever since the New Power update (which i thought was fixed) is still a problem. I give up with this trash game.
