      @@unrealone1 I worked on keeping the cost down with this design so I don't think you could go much larger than A3 in landscape orientation. The side to side axis can be increased substantially but the back and fourth in it's current design is not suitable for extending much.

    NO if your machine goes wacky ,then you need to troubleshoot and find the reason why and fix it, if one or both motors are moving in the WRONG direction then reverse the plug on the board and try again.

      Hey guys. I did some research and managed to find all the parts for around 90€. (printing, screws, wood and stuff not included)
      Just in case it´s helpful for somebody, here is the list: (note: some parts are from ebay germany but you should find them international also, however most parts are from CN so you have to be patient ;-)) Prices in list are from Sep 24th - prices vary from day to day, but with around 90€ you should be in the same ballpark. Also check for coupon codes on aliexpress!

    Do you know if there is an updated Inkscape extentsion (MI GRBL Z-AXIS Servo Controller) that works on latest Inkscape release?

  • @leamellet8081
    @leamellet8081 2 года назад +1

    Hi everybody,

    I built (thanks to this amazing tutorial, a big thank you!), this machine.
    The machine works, I could test it with drawings in .gcode format but the problem is that the Inkscape extension to generate this famous gcode does not work. After many attempts, python updates and other manipulations, this extension of Inkscape does not work because the lxml is not up to date and it is impossible for me to update it.
    - Do you know what other software could replace Inkscape?
    - Or if by any chance it is possible that the machine works with another file type than gcode?

    I am using an iPad Pro to create the drawings and vectorise them. I was thinking of creating the drawings on ipad and then sending them to a mac book pro in inkscape to change the file type but maybe there is an app that allows saving to the correct format directly from an ipad?

    If you have any clues it would be a great relief for me. I think I've reached the end of my skills in this area...
    I thank you in advance for your precious help.
    I wish you a lovely evening,
    L.M

    Hi, I'm building a 2D CNC pen plotter following your video. I’m encountering a weight distribution issue: at the home position, the weight of the pen causes it to tilt downwards, but as it moves up, the pen lifts off the surface, preventing any drawing. Do you have any recommendations for adjustments or additions that might help balance the pen better throughout its movement? Thank you for your help!

However, when I issue M5, nothing happens. I can issue M3 S10 and the servo goes to 10 degrees but M5 does nothing. What am I doing wrong?

    • @DIYMachines
      @DIYMachines  3 года назад +1

      Thank you David, yes I have thought about a larger one. The code would scale just fine. One of my main designs goals was low cost and as you go any larger than this the first increase is an additional rail and stepper motor to form a more traditional gantry.

    Running commands manually doesn't do anything. Fan is running from my CNC which makes me hopeful power is running to the board. Generic error i'm receiving below.
    ok
    [Caution: Unlocked]
    ok
    ALARM: Homing fail
    ok
    Grbl Eh Servo 0.9j ['$' for help]
    ['$H'|'$X' to unlock]
    Updates the servo for the pen head works. it responds to m3 s90/m5. So I know something is working at least.

    Anyone help please? I can move the micro server up and down. but for life of me I can't figure how to move the steppers or motors to go in X/Y axis. I'm using arduino 1.8.12 and GRBL 0.9 but the homing never works. it always fails. I also can't manually run commands to force any movement in the motors. I noticed the heat sinks are not warm at all on the steppers. Not sure if this is expected if the steppers are not active.
    I replaced all the steppers and the CNC shield and still didn't see any results.
    Any suggestions?

      Thanks Loïc. Goo question about making it without a base. I suppose for what you're suggesting you could attach it to a wooden frame instead of the board, but have the frame sit on the the topside of the printed 'feet' and screw in from below. This would then make the surface of the wall level with he drawing plane. Motor wise, I think it should be OK. Slow the movements down when you export the GCODE - that should help prevent any slipping of the timing belts. Most of the weight (the two stepper motors) is very central to the main machine linear rail on purpose to keep the weight on the extending arm to a minimum.

The plotter works great for me but when I use Inkscape to create a g code file with a few objects, when it comes into Chilipper, there's a line from the origin to the first object and then line connects all the other objects. But when I made the boundary box file it was ok. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Gord

    Hi, great videos. I’m nearly done building this but have a couple of issues. 1 noisy steppers and 2 I have had to set the grbl configuration to $100=5.00 x, step/mm)
    $101=5.00 (y, step/mm) to stop the x and y trying to go outside the limits of the drawing area, they just fly off at speed! Got to be a config issue but not sure where to start. I have 1.8degree 200step motors.

    • @DIYMachines
      @DIYMachines  3 года назад

      Hello, and thank you. First question, which stepper motor drivers are you using? You are correct to adjust $100 and $101 based on your machine. Ideally have it draw a 10cm square and adjust this values up or down until what it draws is actually 10cm's square. Are you zeroing out your axis after homing the machine - if not this is like to cause it fly of at speed and make an uncomfortable noise. Check here in the video: ruclips.net/video/8scKLHz77Lg/видео.html. After zeroing out the co-ordinates in the top right of Chillipeppr should all read 0.

    • @geospectrum
      @geospectrum 3 года назад

      @@DIYMachines many thanks for the reply. I’m zeroing manually at the moment as I don’t have the end stops installed yet. I’m zeroing. In the correct place though! I’m using DRV8825 and the CNC shield
      Is set to full step (no jumpers) if that is relevant. I’m drawing a box and it is just about the correct size. This appear to be working ok , just the steppers are noisy and I’m
      Puzzled why I need to change the vales in the config file. (I’m using UGS btw)

    • @DIYMachines

      I put the different colour onto different layers. Then exported each layer one at a time into GCODE. They are each then run on the machine one after another ensuring your home the axis after changing the pen each time. This means you don't have to worry about the layers of the image drifting if you nudge the head of the machine.

    How does GRBL or chillipeppr know my pulley-size thus my steps/mm-ratio?

    • @DIYMachines
      @DIYMachines  3 года назад +1

      You set it in the configuration of GRBL in the following values (how many steps of the stepper moor creates 1mm of travel). Only GRBL needs to know this - chillipeppr does not (it's just a utility to stream the GCODE commands to GRBL with a pleasant GUI):
      $100=40 (x, step/mm)
      $101=40 (y, step/mm)
      Take a look here for some more information: diymachining.com/grbl-settings-101-a-how-to-guide/
      I hope that helps. Lewis
