In this discovery-themed pack, players will return to the spirit of exploration at the heart of Stellaris and encounter new anomalies and strange beings in the depths of space. Featuring surprises that may help or harm ambitious explorers, the new Distant Stars DLC will include:
Behind Closed Doors: Discover hidden traces of an ancient gateway network unlocking a sealed path to the remote L-Cluster outside our own galaxy. But is this door holding something out, or keeping something in?
Sensors are Picking up… That Can’t be Right: Encounter dozens of new anomalies and events for your intrepid scientists to observe and analyze, and a galaxy of wonders for them to discover.
Brave New Worlds: Plot unexplored unique solar systems, each with their own story to tell. Gain technology, resources, and valuable worlds to colonize.
There’s Always a Bigger Fish: Come face to face with a number of unique gargantuan creatures that exist and thrive in the vacuum of space. But approach with caution, because whether gentle giants or something more sinister, these legendary behemoths have existed long before you and will do what it takes to survive long after.
I remember when I first opened an L-Gate. Half my star empire burned and those planets were turned into nanomachine worlds. Good times.
I remembered opened too early and Grey Swarm destroyed whole galaxy including my Empire.
because we all needed more reasons to pick discovery in the beginning of the game
Do people pick something else first?
Uhm sorry kinda newbie here... But is it really good? Mind explaining cos I normally go wide. I'll pick expansion almost always first
with discovery you get 3 times your unity gain when you research a technology
Yea I pick Expansion first all the time...
I don't consider myself a pro but to me the big plus in expension is just the extra amount of planet under direct control. The growth speed is mhe to me because most the time your early game is limited by supplies so you just have more planet underdevelopped. Also more sub-optimal planet increase tradition and research time. Going exploration gives you big boost in both research and tradition at no cost. Also you get the benefit of doing anomalies much faster early game giving you rng bonus on your systems. Furthermore, bonus to exploration itself is almost useless late-game since they made the change to reveal all systems in other's territory. So, to me, exploration is better early game than expension. Depending on the neighbours, i'll take either expension in second or third place (switching with military if i need the power boost to protect myself).

Ok, lesson learned, when I open the L-gate I am going to have a strong fleet sitting there to prevent whatever that was from getting far.
They've said there are multiple outcomes so we'll just have to see what happens :D
I just hope that among those outcomes is not a "nothing happens, things fail or worse" one, that would be really annoying considering how they said it requires a lot of preparation and research to even just get the L-gates online.
Ha, joke's on you! Those things come from every gate but the one you activated.
Владислав Ковылин wait no D:
Multiple outcomes or not, I have played enough stellaris to know you really want that fleet there.
Incredible trailer, whoever makes the soundtrack for these is not getting paid enough!
Im a music producer, and i can tell you that it is very easy to make :D, tho it is very well mixed and put together, props for him
How do you know how much they are paying him?
Hi Nuno. Thank you for your comment!
Andreas Waldetoft
Phil Lober Why are you thanking them for this comment?
Do you want Reapers Paradox, cause this is how you get Reapers.
We need a reaper endgame crise...NOW
Gravit Cat isn't the contingency basically that already?
Drayce Francisco More or less, i am saying something like, a outsider mix of machine empire and hive-mind that consume and uses your old population againts your empire...fear tatics
Gravit Cat well they do have those infiltration terrorism events. And the ghost signal stuff.
Reapers, but Grey Goo, Death to Organics and Synthetics alike
I'm so glad Stellaris is getting back to what made it great!

*No, you want to dew it*
I want a tesla in space anomaly.
this
You know Paradox, We need to talk, take a seat, and I'll tell how much I love your game that my financial burden is increasing because of your goddamn release of new DLC.
I, too, feel that the only thing left from this game is a reduction in price. (and the sector AI must be fixed)
This is top kek.
EDIT: Was that a moth eating a planet?
i think it was born out of a planet
Good luck fighting that thing...
the achievement 1999 A.D. for killing it is a reference to Lavos from chrono trigger, who does the same thing
The moon is an egg
I think it was a leviathan sized xenomorph emerging from the other leviathan sized creature :)
The reaper soundtrack just popped into my mind when that gate opened
Mass Effect still in my mind after all those years
WoW that was perhaps one of the best release video I've seen. Amazing
You clearly haven't seen the Apocalypse one

This DLC:
We learned how to get 2 or more suns in 1 star system
We learned how to make systems not connected to the rest of galaxy
Added few new creatures flying around
Added few new creatures blocking star systems
Maybe new precursors?
Another end game crisis you because you love to explore
And of course more anomalies, we all love them.
Price: 20, maybe 15$
I hope the amount of anomalies will still make finding precursor possible, it's like my 4th game in a row where i wait for the events to get them.
It's actually 10€ or for americans 10$ (which is not fair at all because 1€=1.18$) and you get like 50% more anomalies and big rework for early game.
Or, in other words, things that games a few years back did for free through regular patches. Don't try to defend PDX's DLC policy, it is undefendable in its current form.
Dude, DLC is 10€... and big ones are only 20€. Keep in mind that base game also costs only 40€ and you get major rework with every patch for free. Also, name one dev studio that keeps this kind of after launch content support like paradox does. While I understand that their games have shit ton of DLCs like EU4 and CK2 I dont think that HoI4 and Stellaris have that problem just yet.
And dont forget that you dont have to buy DLC.
Just to make sure we're all properly informed here . . . :
###################
# Story Pack Features
###################
* Added many new Anomalies, increasing the total amount by almost 50%
* Added new Leviathan: Voidspawn
* Added new Leviathan: Tiyanki Matriarch
* Added new Leviathan: Scavenger Bot
* Curator Enclaves will now also spawn for Distant Stars owners, to help with the new Leviathans
* Added new unique systems to explore
* Added L-Gates and the mysterious L-Cluster outside the known galaxy, which you will have to investigate and research to access
###################
# Free Features
###################
* Galaxy generation has been reworked for more interesting hyperlane terrain: stars are now grouped in highly connected 'constellations' separated by thin 'highways', making for more strategic placement of natural chokepoints
* All hyperlanes are no longer immediately visible when starting a new game, but will be revealed through exploration. Hyperlane visibility extends roughly twice as far as your sensor range
* Added binary star systems
* Added trinary star systems
* Added new star classes
* Added new Tomb World tileset and city backdrop art
* Anomaly levels have been reworked to span levels 1-10 instead of 1-5
* Anomalies can no longer fail, but instead the time to research an anomaly will depend on the difference between scientist level and anomaly level, with high level anomalies potentially taking a very long time to research for a low skill scientist
* Some older Anomalies have been reworked and fixed to function properly
* Strategic Resources have been reworked so that similar materials have the same types of effects - crystals for ship damage, ores for ship defenses, gas for empire effects, etc.
* All Strategic Resources are now always visible, but most require specific Technologies to be mined
* Strategic Resource deposits are no longer distributed according to galaxy clusters
* Added new Aldar Crystals Strategic Resource
* Added Aldar Crystals tech
* Added Experimental Subspace Nagivation which allows science ships to go missing-in-action and travel to a selected system. This will allow them to bypass (but not enter) closed borders
* Added a new Alert for when establishing communications reveals a new Strategic Resource within another Empire's borders
* Establishing communications with another Empire that has a Bypass (Gateway, Wormhole, L-Gate) within its borders now counts as discovering that Bypass Type
* Added a new Mammalian portrait
So yeah basically all new content is for 15$(10$ dlcs were a thing two years ago guys) and free patches adds 1 thing that is based off another thing, adds 1 new mechanic and balances and bugfixes. Also i love how i almost got the new things on point just of the trailer
paradox has by far grown into the top pc games developer. anything they make is gold lately
It's getting awfully Mass Effecty up in here...
Also, all those black holes together at that distance... are you planning to have a "nuke galaxy" feature?
Paradox has to release their trailer music! I thought apocalypse was good this is golden
More discovery and mystery? Hell yeah!
Me: Let me open this warpgate...
*Galactic crisis starts and a Reaper Armada comes out*
Me: shit
Finally after a bunch of plantoids and shrimp🍤 species, binary stars systems including quasars and brown dwarfs are coming. My goddess, this trailer made me feel excited.
They should add a system where if black hole near each other, they slowly colliding around 100 years
That's not nearly enough time so it would be pointless. And let us say that the game generates two black holes that would indeed collide in 100 years, what would be the result and gameplay significance? A larger black hole? Stellaris has many design flaws but at least they don't insert things that have no gameplay value.
Could be a research opportunity. parhaps plop a research outpost and gain 10+ physics research?
So... wait 100 years for 10 physics research? Actually, that is a lame game design that I would expect from PDX in such a situation. But no, if you want to make such a system, the only way that it would justify the existence within the gameplay is if it started a good quest chain that includes gravitational waves and manipulation of the very fabric of space and time. Just slapping a modifier to it is not going to cut it, even though it is a main PDX weapon when it comes to game design.
To be honest, the game needs more of the things you can find on Isaac Arthur's channel Science and Futurism, that would actually influence the gameplay. Colliding black holes, apart from starting a quest chain, would be pretty much useless in game terms.
The only thing that is interesting about them is the very instance of collision. After that, it has the same properties as any other black hole so no real reason to double the research output of a system where black holes collided.
Now, what WOULD be interesting are supernova systems (type Ia) or Cepheid systems (pulsating stars). Supernova's occur once every 50 years on average within a galaxy the size of Milky Way and it could have a gameplay effect on its own system and nearby ones. Cepheids pulsate constantly, changing their luminosity and surface temperature.
Or, there is an idea from the Endless Space 2 (Imho a better game than Stellaris) where constellations give bonuses when fully controlled. And I cannot believe I haven't seen trade routes in this game from the very first day. It should have been the primary economic mechanics. It has gameplay meaning, it is a standard thing in every sci-fi out there and provides you with so many opportunities and scenarios.
But we get graphic packs for $10. That's PDX for you right there. I am sure that in a few years they will revamp the trade mechanics in a separate DLC and price it another ~$20.
Maybe not that, but perhaps the game could have stars that are near-death and can go Nova or even Supernova - destroying everything in that starsystem and creating a nebula with a new dwarf star at the center - and damaging ships/planets/pops within a certain radius. That would give reason to develop around older/dying stars rather than attempting to colonize near/in such a system. Such stars could then produce physics output, and would have no planets (making them excellent choices for ringworlds) or something else that's special.
I just want an immersive galaxy okay? lol
That "What the hell is that thing" sounds exactly as if it was taken right from James Holden in "The Expanse"
I'm loving the music again. Every time
I love all the trailers you guys do
Soundtrack is fkin amazing on this one
Awesome. #humanityfirst
Jonathan Kennedy Indeed, humanity first. Beware the heretic, the mutant, the alien.
Let's be Xenophobic...
Glory to the Empire! Humanity will at long last, become the dominant species in the galaxy.
#humanityfirst
#deathtoalienscum
#TerraFirma
Ok finally something which can make the game interesting again. I have almost stopped playing completely but this ought to bring back some flavour
Holy hell where can I get that soundtrack
Holy *uck that trailer was way more awsome than I thought it be.
Love the last moment! Something coming from the gate!
Space the final frontier, these are the voyages of the BSS Friendship. Her ongoing mission; to explore strange new systems, to befriend new life and new civilizations! To boldly go where no Blorg has gone before.
I feel like a child again. Thank you, Paradox
To explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before!
Oh crap! Shields up!
I WANT THIS GAME!!!!! ITS AWESOME!!!!! I love the sound track to... its perfect for a spaced themed game
I see a comment was deleted, if they said something about 2.0 being bad they are an idiot and yes you should buy the game :)
That music is amazing!
Vicky 3 tommorow...
The last Voice line, even Martin himself don't know what the team put inside L-Cluster.
So anyone saw the Expanse yesterday?
Yes 😄
So beautiful it almost brings a tear to my eye... I might get back into the game just for this...
phil lober made the score for this trailer, if you were wondering,
"Oh, I know very well. How the secrets beckon so sweetly. Only an honest death will cure you now. Liberate you, from your wild curiosity."
"What the hell is that thing ?" was also heard in the comms in the Apocalypse trailer ;)
At this rate of trailer improvement PDX will become a movie studio by 2020.
Once I finish up final round of midterms and finals, and there's a steam sale, I'm gonna hop on Stellaris so fast
before Distant Stars: "Yeah... What IS that thing coming out of the gate ?"
after Distant Stars: "Please, make it stop D:"
Damn Nanites
"Ship Commander: "Hold on Somthing coming through the Gate, What the Hell is that thing?"
Fleet Admiral: "ALL SHIPS DISENGAGE AT..." *Static*
Brickcraft productions
"What in oblivion is that!?"
"Guards! Get the townspeople to safety."
Came from an ad. Stayed for the content :)
Reapers pouring through the relay.....i repeat, Re----,,,,,,,,
Can’t say how terrified I am when the L-Gates activate. I always rush for it though, cause I know if any other Empire gets to it first, it’ll be far far worse the rest of the game.
Mass Relays and the Collector Base came to my mind :-D
Victoria 3?
Victoria was always the weakest title, how did this become a meme?
Well the setting is interesting enough, but the previous games lacked the mechanics to give them depth.
That is why Victoria III is so requested, with the experience they got from making CK2, EU4, HOI4 they can really build upon the Vicky 2 strong sides and improve the weak ones.
shhh, let stellaris have a few more dlcs
They won't abandon the title, of course. But it's just clear that Victoria II was (one of) the least good selling game of its Paradox generation. CK2 is still heavily supported after 6 years, same with EU after 5 years, HoI is an entire generation ahead of Vic and money went into two completely new titles (Stellaris and Imperator). Now compare that to Vic. Vic2 got two content DLCs during 3 years of support, that's it. And I'm pretty sure they didn't made that decision based on personal preference but on numbers.
March of the Eagles 2?
Love the music! Great video!
Really hope L-cluster will eventually evolve into full-on satellite galaxies.
Hell yeah. More creatures
In my opinion for the new DLC or the update, can you add more rebellion mechanics, Fallout survivors, updated planet invasion mechanics, Gama ray bursts, and more? That would make the game more interesting. Plus I too am a Stellaris fan, thanks for the game!
Can't wait to find that desert planet with two suns.
I forget how beautiful this game is
Take my money!
holy shit yes give me
I would buy this for just the soundtrack, never mind anything else.
stellaris has been really slapping some cheeks lately. First a huge expansion and game changer with apocalypse and the update that changed how expansion worked. then adding new star systems and cool space shit? fucking so glad i got this game
Okay, that trailer is.awesome !
I need this soundtrack.
Oh boy another DLC!
I always watch just for the end part, gives me goosebumps for some reasons lmao...The voice of the guy being shocked of the thing coming is just something
I refer you to the Bayblon 5 Telemovie "Thirdspace" they had a similar , galaxy-threatening experience.
if could now bundle everything together that will be great
1:42 First Contact War.
B I N A R Y SYSTEMS! now, we only need aquatic species and I'll forever be content
I kinda missed the narrative they told in the Apocalypse trailer
How tf is this already 3 years old
How it is 5 ?
1:39 Worlds most OP choke point
The only moment science goes too far is when the human mind doesn't go far enough. As a proud fanatic materialist it is my duty to uncover those wonders even for the mightiest of prices as no discovery is too small, no mistery be left unsolved. The *Terran Directorate* shall venture beyond the boundaries, will you join us ?
This music is just... WOW
So much mistery in the galaxy .I Wonder what news discovery nasa will unlock in the futur .
Can we like... get this music on an OST release at some point? Cause that stuff is really good.
YES! THIS LOOKS FANTASTIC!
don't dead open inside
honestly we need more Diplomacy, Civillian Traffic freighter and Government feature including new Name, specialized feature for Fanatics Ethics and Civics for the Empire.
Time to kick down some vault doors and crack some mysteries. Because if you are going to fuck up you might as well do it in a galactic scale!
THe voiceover reminds me of the Freespace The Great War Cut Scenes about the Ancients
In the end, i think i heard the reaper (m.e.123) sound...
