Mattel is back to producing Monster High dolls and toys. Unfortunately it's under a new branding. This one is covered in pastels and for a younger audience again. Will this new reboot manage to capture a new audience or will it fail to connect like the last reboot did? Only time will tell.

I have to agree with you. The dolls look cute but they’re not wowing me. The artwork is way cutesy and very much a Nick Jr look. Especially since the original creator was booted out of this revival, which I don’t understand because it was his vision and idea that made the IP a huge success that still has a fan base. Higher ups need to stop interfering with doll designers and take more risk. This doesn’t feel like a risk to me and feels very safe.

What set Monster High apart from other dolls was the aesthetic. This incarnation just feels like every other doll. But that's just my opinion. This reboot is not for me.

Fr! I loved the dark tone the old Monster High had. These ghouls were based on cryptid creatures and horror characters. At the time they came out, there weren't any other dolls like them! Like a glammed up Frankenstein Monsters, hot pink goth vampire and a stylish werewolf. That intrigued me a lot, as a person who was into Halloween and horror. It was very kid friendly (except if your an over sensitive soccer mom) and spooky at the same time. Idk if kids were scared of them, but in case there weren't any, they now don't have a doll line that would tap that itch for the dark and spooky aesthetics (now that they made it more light hearted). It really sucks for both new and old fans alike

This reboot, much like the first one back in 2016, loses sight of what made Monster High Monster High. The dolls stood out because of their gothic, edgy, Hot Topic-y aesthetic, but now it’s all rainbows and pastels and *not* Monster High. This is a franchise about accepting others for their differences, but ironically, what once set them apart is now foregone for a more sanitized and generic look.
As someone who grew up with Monster High and RELIGIOUSLY collected the dolls, seeing a beloved franchise of mine dumbed down into Monster Middle School is quite upsetting. I will say that I do like that the dolls have different body types - it makes sense that different monsters and people would be built differently. Other than that, I have nothing positive to say.
I need to dig my old MH dolls out of storage and cherish them once again.

You can see that with there pets as well. They’re giving them a very “ normal “ pet look with a little monster in them. For example instead of giving Cleo her pet Hissette a snake , they gave her a dog that looks like Anubis and they called it Tut. They’re giving normal high school girls dressed as monsters instead of the sons and daughters or Monsters. Even Dracula’s pet doesn’t look really like a bat more like a cute cubby cat with wings.

I like how they have different body types! It fits into the OG monster high theme. But these dolls definitely aren’t it. 😂 Sorry! But it just isn’t my thing. And no doll stand? I thought that was like-staple for any doll brand. I still can’t get over Frankie having a prosthetic. It just doesn’t make sense for her character. They should’ve given her a cousin who was ACTUALLY made out of mainly mechanical parts. Perhaps have a walking disability so that sometimes they come with a wheelchair? That would’ve been so cool and such an attention to detail.
As I’ve heard from a few people that sometimes when their disability isn’t always super bad (when they have mobility and can walk) they’ll just walk. Or if it’s really bad they’ll go to their wheelchair. People with actual disabilities tell me if I’m wrong or not. LOL. I have no idea this is just what I’ve heard. But yeah no-definitely not a major fan of the new dolls. Which sucks

Even though I never really looked much into Monster High (on account of being a guy and more focused on other figure lines lol), but I will say from the small bits I saw it had a pretty unique look to it. Shame to see the new incarnation stray so much from what charm and identity the original had. Also I just loving hearing you guys talk about it, the passion you have for the franchise is always fun to hear.
Also as a semi figure collector, my condolences on hearing you guys losing the accessories for your MH dolls, as a Transformers fan I kinda know the feeling having misplaced or nearly coming close to losing accessories as well as often seeing used figures missing them (stuff like the guns, swords, cyber keys, minicons, or even sometimes parts of the vehicle or robotodes), hopefully the box is just misplaced in an obscure location just begging to be found.

I absolutely adore pastels, it's my favorite style to use for coloring, and I always try to use them when customizing in games. That being said...
These are abhorrently colorful, even to me. Even if this wasn't monster high, something about the pastels looks odd. I think there needs to be more darker colors to offset all the bright ones.
What's funny is pastels were uses frequently in Ever After High designs, yet they decide to ignore the pastel franchise for the goth franchise based on monsters.
Edit: I have to say the face molds here are way better then even the old dolls at least. It's a genuine improvement rather then a replacement. The custom doll community will probably like these at least.

Controversial opinion, but I dont know if I'm liking the different bodies. Like you stated in the video, it will make switching outfits not possible. ALSO most of the them are suppose to be DEAD characters so how can dracualura have so much flesh for being dead for so long? Now if they changed clawdeen's body type to be more cuvry & Cleo's & lagoona, etc, it makes more sense cause they alive so can gain weight.
Putting that aside i just feel kind of weird with the height differences as well, imean it makes sense but the aesthetic of the skinny, tall model look, looked so cool with the fashion for me :c.
Overall, i think their new designs are giving me disney doll vibes which is pretty sad cause as a alternative styled person, I loved MH old look BUT I have just accepted that monster high will just never be the way it was again unless its like a $100 special edition doll.. ( looking at those Stephen king dolls lol )
A.K.A i just realized Frankie has a prosthetic leg and something about having a doll in a company called " Monster High" while having something that is scene kind of scary to kids as a prosthetic leg could make some issues and possibly leave a opening for kids to bully... I just wish they would leave MH alone at this point & make another type of NEW doll for kids of this gen to enjoy.

Your right about how the people who didn’t like monster high back than aren’t going to now. Coming from a very strict family who refused to buy the dolls no matter how much I tried. The dolls being so out there was its main appeal to little girls especially back than, i feel as though strict families may buy these dolls but if they see the details of the monster elements like brain cupcakes or coffin lockers they’ll quite frankly go right back to hating it. Appealing to strict families in my opinion is not the way to go especially sense it’s not a subtle change and is outright in the marketing campaign.

I'm sorry but are they really trying to make me believe that it's Cleo in the photo? Having too much blue is basically a Nefera's identity, not Cleo, she's more to gold. They never got everything right since Gen 2 and I shouldn't be surprised anymore.
Nothing about this reboot can please me at all the more I looked at it, we are all fine with MH being gone for years since their 1st failed reboot, I wouldn't mind of pretending that this one never actually existed either because it's completely so different not only by the design, but with their personality too, there's no reason for me to keep on following the franchise if they keep up in this way but I'll probably just going to see if the history will be repeated.
The only thing I appreciate is that, with Frankie unable to use green for her skin tone, it make me appreciated the G1 Frankie even more and I'll cherished her for as much as I can.

My thoughts on the Duce and Frankie two pack:
As someone who is AFAB non-binary, I have a strong guess that the two pack with be totally platonic. In the original Monster High show and movies, they had no problem letting guys and girls be friends with each other, but they never made two packs of them because it would give the wrong idea to fans, but they did make the Gil and Duce two pack since it was both guys instead of a guy and a girl. My guess is that they are finally opening up to the idea of having a two pack that isn’t romantic OR isn’t two guys/two girls. My theory is that Frankie will be close friends with Duce in the animated series, sort of like Frankie is “one of the guys,” even though they’re non binary.

Like they look vaguely enough where a grandma or mom who knows nothing about MH would look at it and think "ah this is what my kid is talking about"
The original MH was such a gamble on concept and was amazingly executed, hey honestly sparked my love for alt. fashion and monsters even more than I already did. Like I hate that I hate this reboot so much honestly because this brand is everything for me.

Definitely was expecting a revival when they brought out Haunt Couture and the reproductions. If anything, I just wish they were all new characters more than anything - an actual new generation with characters that can have a new backstory to explore while the older characters, that are grown ups at this point, can come into the story every now and again. I feel like that would have been satisfactorily for older and new fans that come together for something we all can enjoy. So far to me, the updated versions of the characters feel like the only thing they share with the original ones is a name and what kind of monster they are. I’m struggling in-between how I feel.

I am beyond disappointed with the box art. It looks like the artist wasn't given any reference of the original style and no reference of what Mattel wants now. There are verry few edges and most characters have their eyes facing in slight opposite directions. It's a huge shame when you notice Mattel does have access to artists who can match the MH art style and color palette, just look at those new black and white dolls' boxes, Mattel just choses to give the widely accessible dolls cheap-looking art. Glad to see I'm not the only one displeased with the color pallet and style of the High School/box as a whole. Also, did anyone else notice Cleo has pants like her first wave In the art but a skirt in the doll?

It just lost its edge, which Is what made it unique in the first place - not the monster gimmic. . . The dolls are cute but I'm probably only going to get that playset with Draculaura because her outfit in it and hairstyle is more reminiscent of OG MH. Why? BLACK. The Coffee Bean playset interests me only for the creepy accessories, although I do think the fashions they are wearing on the box is a lot better than their standalone looks. Again, though, it's like the artists only knew of modern fashion and didn't bother adding the more interesting elements to mix it up like in the OG. This new art style just looks underwhelming and (no offense to the artist) a bit uninspired. They scream kiddy play dolls more than fashion dolls. Really flat and nothing interesting to catch your eye. I wouldn't even mind all the color - MH used color a LOT - but they are sticking to the pastel and brightness instead of incorporating more darker magentas and whatnot and mixing it with black. It's just a complete swap from what the brand was.
I'm hoping they are keeping the two brands separate and they release more Creeproductions + the Haunt Couture in the old style. I'll be more excited for those than this reboot.

I was more of a fan of the original Monster High style, it’s very unique it’s like the opposite of a Barbie.

😠 is draculaura doesn't end up with Claude I'm going to be so ticked I'm going to be so pissed I don't If they don't end up together I don't care about this reboot it's absolutely garbage and it should kill itself because if those two don't end up together it's not worth it they've changed so much and if they don't keep my favorite couple together after all the horrible things they've already done I'm just done And that is said to say for someone who loved everything about monster High

Monster High has become Barbie 2.0. It's way more rainbow and colorful than before. It looks like they're babies. The outfits aren't as iconic and are very underwhelming.

So far I’m liking certain aspects of this new reboot such as using new body types/ head molds with others I’m not to fond about such as the Lagoona and Clawdeen changes (where are the other wolf siblings😭).
I do know that their are certain clothing pieces that you can Mitch match with this generation such as with curvy body types so I’m happy about that ☺️.
Their also have been a few images of the gore-ganizer Dracaulaura which she kinda reminiscences as the music festival Dracaulaura and I personally think that if they go in a similar route as that doll then maybe MH will be great again
Still I think the new dolls are cute 🥰

For my vote "Creepover" has some... connotations, that I think someone over in PR/Marketing might've wanted to rethink. Or think harder on. Or ask Frankie if they could borrow her brain. Dead Tired is funny, and probably very accurate. Creepover; I'm gonna invite a creepover party. Uhm... okay? Just saying it's potentially a very anti male message that a lot of young women may not catch.
An hour in a thunderstorm... I respect that dedication. Was it a dark, and stormy night. Or just one of those things. Mwhahaha! Did you have to count to 3, or am I missing something.

First I’ll say, I don’t have much interest in this stuff. It doesn’t really appeal to me. But from an artistic perspective I think the darker elements worked better. It kept it unique based off the premise it was going off of…so why are they trying to make everything overly bright? Did they not run a screening to see if it seems more likable? Because idk it just seems like a downgrade

I love the new dolls! Do I think Mattel needs to set it up?! Of course! I remember when monster high came out. The the dolls and the boxes were amazing! Eye catching! These boxes just don’t have the same feel. I love the dolls though!

The dolls I have no problem with(I love Draculara’s design). Just live action (taken from a riverdale female y/n fanfic from wattpad), the animation so far looks a bit unfinished.

There’s a doll remake I wanted to do but every body shape as a base wasn’t right but the new Draculara’s base is prefect for a fantasy doll remake oc that I had( her body shape is exactly how the new Draculara’s doll is).

1st of all, monster high was never goth or edgy to begin with. It is true that they are targetting a much younger audience 4+ instead of 6+ ages. Monster high did take a risk actually. With all the movie, animated shows, layered clothing that are NOT one piece, painted accessories, detailed face ups, different body molds and added chest articulation. They still dont know if its gonna be succesful so they def played it risky. Mattel also has to please not just adult doll collectors but the parents too. Remember tha kids dont buy the toys, the parents buy it for them. If conservative parents didnt like it, then they won t buy it. The doll community is pretty small and not all likes edgy stuff or mh related stuff. So if mattel relies on the dollcommunity alone it will go bankrupt. The reboot is only startig and y'all are already shooting it down and ignoring the good stuff cuz you want dolls with revealing clothes and dark aesthetic that no parent will ever buy for a 4 years old and above. Dont lie and act like there are any monster high dolls from the year 2013-2016 that has better quality than g3 cuz theres none. How will we know if g3 will improve when we already shoot it down before it even comes out. This is why we never get good stuff.

If y'all loved the original monster high so much, why dod you stop supporting it and made mattel's salesgo down? They reboot it because no one else is liking the dolls cuz it got too old. So tell me, WHY DID YOU LET MH G1 DIE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Y'all are fakes, eat ur heart out cuz this reboot is here to stay and y'all probably dont even know al the doll lines and not complted a single one

cleo and clawdeen look the best out of the rest and even then cleo still looks like a diet nefera. i'm gonna say it: that is entirely TOO MUCH pink on draculaura. her OG design at least had pops of white, sheesh. and I hate the split dye, sorry, the pink highlights will always remain superior. 🤷🏿‍♀
honestly, if they couldn't make frankie green then they should've made them grey/white, did some actual patchwork type skin, or do a complete revamp like they did with lagoona. that blue is..........a choice. i'm throwing tomatoes.
