Nashville singer-songwriter Lari White stops by TNN’s Music City Tonight to promote her forthcoming RCA release “Don’t Fence Me In.”
Lari performs the album’s lead single, "Ready, Willing and Able,” and chats with TNN hosts Lorianne Crook and Charlie Chase about getting into the Halloween spirit as “Porter Wagoner.”
Don’t Fence Me In, co-produced by Lari alongside Josh Leo, was released February 16, 1996 on RCA Nashville. The project would be White’s final studio album for RCA Records.
Ready, Willing and Able had previously been recorded by Giant Records artist Daron Norwood. The track was written by Jess Leary and Jody Alan Sweet.
Don’t Fence Me In was written by Cole Porter and Robert Fletcher. On Lari’s recording, she was joined by guest artists Shelby Lynne and Trisha Yearwood.

RCA really flubbed on promoting Don’t Fence Me In. It’s hard to overstate just how *everywhere* Lari was at this time with Wishes. The label had a true gem on their hands ready for superstardom, and they balked. Kudos to you for shining a light on her unique career and artistry.
Thanks so much for this Joe. Happy Thanksgiving Weekend to you and yours. Yes! Ready Willing And Able"! It still ticks me off that RCA was too cheap to produce a video for this single. That being said, the should have released a 4th single and video off of "Wishes". I swear that "If I'm Not Already Crazy" was a career song. Either that are the title track could have easily boosted sales past Platinum status. Do you have Lari's performing on Nashville Now in the dazzling Black sequined dress with the white ruffles? It's from early 1993. I know she sang 3 songs and just blew me away. It was the first time I heard her perform "Lead Me Not" live and she outdid the studio recording! I used to have all these appearances on tape. I recall her performing "Ghost Of Chance" live, another career song In my opinion. If they had released that as the first single off of "Don't Fence Me In" it would have been huge. I don't remember if it was on Music City Tonight or Prime Time Country?
Couldn’t agree more, Jeff! Yes, I have the 1993 Nashville Now performance. I’m with you on Ghost of a Chance - that’s one of my favorites too!
I’m continuing to recover and restore as much footage as I possibly can from Lari’s extraordinary career. If you’d like to help, please check out LariWhite.org. Thank you for your support and love for Lari, Jeff! Spread the word.
