Great vid! Replacing my '96 head unit with a modern CarPlay featuring one. The whole upgraded GPSnav/infotainment system is being replaced with the stepped down version (what you have.) except of course radio is replaced with the CarPlay. What I want to know, is, if I use this step-down'd assembly, will I lose any non-obvious features? Like the back seat being able to control A/C? Or will all the connections and buttons still be there?
what unit are you swapping it out with ? a newer one compatible with bluetooth? if so, could you tell me what your using for the replacement. im trying to replace my 96 toyota crons head unit. its basiclly the same as you showed here so thanks a lot man.
@@bicboi2883 I don't believe they have a harness that would let you retain the rear seat controls, even the other fancier harnesses only focus on integrating the amp in some cars, not the controls.
@@bicboi2883 the only way I would figure they would work is finding a wiring diagram and figuring out which wires are what on that last plug and splicing into them to act like steering wheel controls
life saver! thank you!

There's three connectors on the back of the headunit, did you buy another type of harness or just the Metra 70-1761?
Just that metra, that third plug I believe was for the rear passenger audio controls, I left it disconnected and haven't had any issues.
@@hectoribarra15 Gotcha! Do you by chance know what kind of connector it would be for that? I just want to give options

@@hectoribarra15 I figured. I kept looking and couldn’t find anything remotely similar

Might be a dumb question but what trim do you use for the head unit?
