I use about the same method to clean my brass powder shells. On the stove, I put water + dish soap. When I come home, I rinse and put shells in cola, for an hour, then I rinse them and put them in a cup like you, a few hours. After 3 or 4 hours, my brass is almost like new...👍
Good video, have been shooting BP in my C Sharps 45-70gov for 25 years, don’t shoot too often with it and still have my original 200 cases in use. I have an old universell Lyman de-caper that fits all calibers to de-prime before starting. Somewhere 25+ years ago I did find in an old news group on collections and old west a mix of hydrogen peroxide, Murphy oil soap, and rubbing alcohol 1/3 of each to clean BP, guns and tools of the western era, it works great and have used it since. Also use the 1200 and either corn cob or nut shells to clean after the wet wash. I do Ware a medical mask not to breathe in the dust.
I have a very simple method. I put my brass in a zip up bra bag in the washer with some old towels for cushioning. I set the washer to the hottest setting w/ no tumble dry with a little Palmolive and cleaning vinegar They shine like new!
I have only just started using black powder in cowboy action shooting. I have watched a lot of videos on case cleaning, where they are using lemi shine and dawn dish soap to wash brass. Which I can’t get my head around🤷♂️ because they are adding a acid and alkaline to water, so they now have tap water😂🤣😂😳 I was working on a dishwasher full of crud and decided to run a bottle of dish washer cleaning solution through it. I was reading the instructions and it states it won’t harm brass. 🤷♂️😳🎉 I put a pint of hot water with 1 teaspoon of the dishwasher cleaning solution with 200 44/40 cases( which I had decamped with a lee universal deprimer die)in a small plastic container with a lid and I gave it a good shake, I left it in the hot sun for 2 hours, giving it a good shake every time I went past about every 15 minutes or so. I tipped them into a sieve and hosed them off. I couldn’t believe how good they came out, they are sparkling clean with only a tiny amount of residue in the primer pocket . They are shinier them the cases out of your tumbler.. I think in a revolving tumbler with some stainless media , and dishwasher cleaner cases would be awesome in 30 minutes👍. Love your channel 👍💯
Just bought one of these, just curious how many cartridges can you put in there at a time? I loaded up a box of 50 black powder 45 colt cartridges can I do all 50 at once?
Check out the Guns of the West store here: gunsoftheweststore.com
I haven't cleaned bp cases but I switched from dry to wet tumbling and could not be happier. You might want to try it.
Nice video! Im getting into reloading brass shotgun shells with black powder. This video was very helpful.

Great video, Dustin!I used vinegar at one point, but it smelled something awful. You achieved great results!
Santee I was just about to ask you how they did this in the old west if I couldn't find something like this.
Did you say Dustin Vinegar or Winegar Santee ?
@@scottscheuerman6170 Uhh....Winegar. But he used vinegar!
@@ArizonaGhostriders funny 😁

Is the tumbling really necessary? I've never tumbled my smokeless cases, I just wash 'em. I'm new to black powder shooting, though.

That should be fine. Thanks for watching!
Thanks
I always put my dirty cases in a cloth or burlap bag and tossed it into the clothes washer and then the dryer-they come out like new.
gbs1x really? Never thought of that. I bet the dry cycle is noisy as hell.
There is a guy on youtube that does his reloaing with a pin and a hammer on a tree trunk. I have too many tools that's why I am not getting much done.
Hot water means 50 or 90Celcius?
I'm new to this stuff. What kind of casings are those and how do they work? By the context of the video they appear to be reusable.
These are just regular .45 Colt brass cases. They can be used several times before they get too weak.
@@GunsOfTheWest that's great thanks, merry Christmas
Personally I like to run them through my decapping die first, then tumble them.
I bet your wife love the smell of that down the bathroom sink lol
My wife’s de would kill me if I ran the tumbler in the house lol
I’m a bit spooked by lead dust in our living space, and run the Lyman tumbler outside in the carport...
Without a sealed lid no less lol
Why you didn't deprime them first?
You could, but I don’t like to put them in my depriming die that dirty.
I would have taken the primers out first ............. lots of gunk will still be in those primer pockets and flash holes
Does your wife know your using that sink??????
You are wasting precious water ...
