I love your honesty. Often times people do reviews and they don’t explain why they didn’t like a book, however you give many examples of what went wrong and how it could have been so much better. I appreciate you so much and I really enjoy your content. Thank you!
Hi! This was my first time watching one of your book reviews. Wow-I could listen to you opine for hours! You speak with such an inspired gusto that motivates me to explore classical literature. Thank you!
The highlight of my reading year was reading War and Peace and In Search of Lost Time: The Way By Swann’s. Both absolutely extraordinary books. I’m a sucker for Russian literature.
This channel has become a great source of learning and entertainment for me. You're actually really good at this. I could sit through anything if you were the host.
I belong to a poetry group. Another member wrote a poem about how he used to pretend to be Hector when he was a boy, killing Achilles. A line repeated in the poem':. "Achilles was a jerk. A big, Greek jerk."
Not sure what it says about my personality but I do enjoy an irked Cinzia video, perhaps it's the passion and the desire to see things done better that appeals
Lovely earrings by the way! This was great, had a couple of those books on my reading list so this was really helpful! I feel the same way about Fry's Mythos - so overrated! :D
I love how you review and critic books that you read! you so passionate and honest about it! I love it! I also read "The Silence of the girl" by Pat Barker a few years ago now, and honestly, in my opinion it is not a feminist book, I mean the book talk about rape, violence against women, slavery of said women, war, the patriarchy of the achaens etc...but it is not a feminist book, The relationship between BriseÏs and Achilles is not a romance (she is his prisoner, and Achilles saw Briseïs as a mother! )! It was weird and wrong! and as you said it, it was a static reading! And like you I never like Achilles except in "The song of Achilles" of Madeline Miller (he was bearable in it!).
4:00 gave me a pleasant shock. That's John Tomlinson in the opera The Minotaur on the cover, which I finally got to see on DVD early this year. I'm surprised an obscure opera ended up on a book cover. It was...interesting.
I mostly read romance, fantasy, some non fiction and books about information systems but I still found this video interesting. When I hear you discuss books I really want to read them, but I do know I’m comfortable with my genres 😏 and my TBR shelf is already overflowing and I’ve ”decided” to make it a priority to read some books from there this month.
Sigh.. 50 books. My aim was 40. And I was doing well, until I got COVID, and then my brain frizzled and I've struggled to read 😭 I'm at 34. Better than nothing I guess. Some of your recommendations will be on my to read pile for 2022.
Thanks for the recommendations!!! Check out Tonguecat by Peter Verhelst, a very poetic yet savage read, titans and Prometheus in a somewhat apocalyptic setting. It is a very layered book, not super accessible as it can feel overwhelmingly abstract in its poeticism at times, but I loved it (also I am kinda primed for it from reading a lot of Eastern European magical realism authors such as Milorad Pavic).
I absolutely love the way you say "all that jazz" and the thing you do when you scrunch up you nose 6:51 sometimes when you smile, very endearing. Disappointed to hear about Silence of the Girls, that's sat on my shelf TBR and her WWI trilogy was incredible so I was really looking forward to it. Perhaps it's her age that makes her so out of touch with Feminism?
Have you read any Mark Helprin? I would recommend "A Soldier of the Great War", to begin. I usually have several books going at once, fiction and non fiction. Thanks for your book year in review.
Achilles knows he has months to live, if he accepted Agamemnon's set down, it puts his immortality in jeopardy. Yes he's ego driven, but he's the weak mortal child of a Goddess, imagine the pressure.
I read school of life's book on travel and I agree total cring fest. It had one good essay about drawing things. everything else was super pretencious and cringy and psudointelectual. (I can't spell sorry)
I said it in the video. There were grammar school boys I knew of who made the joke that “we, I can’t believe I kissed her. She’s from a comp” 🙄 Alain’s book had THAT kind of energy, but not in a joke form. In all seriousness.
@@CinziaDuBois That's rather dispicable, if you ask me. Not really my kind of joke...oh I see what you mean. I shall not be picking up that book any time soon.
@@fritobandito5374 they have become more right leaning. To me seems they push "masculinity" "responsibility" "morals" etc from a conservative perspective.

Did Blinkist cover the latest reports from the FBI that state Trump was less likely to be working with the Russians than Hillary?
Seeing you tear into Alain de Botton was one of the most cathartic things I've witnessed in a long time.

Great overviews! I'm very interested in Spillover, going to add that to my list to get hold of.

I had the same feeling for Tolstoy and most of the russian authors i was forced to read in a class I took. Never again. So boring writing style imo.

Always love to hear your insights, Cinzia! More content like this in 2022, please :)

Thank you so much, so many fascinating books! 🙆♀️
I thoroughly enjoyed this wrap up :) Love how you supported your opinion with arguments

Lovely to meet you! I’m glad you’re enjoying it, thank you for watching
Watching this makes me think of listening to you over a coffee in a cafe. Love it and your earrings!

I read Excellent Women by Barbara Pym this year on your recommendation and devoured it. Looking forward to more of her work. Thank you!

I read the title as 2021 being a verb, and I don't think it would be a verb for doing a good thing.
She seems to love jazz.
Have you read Maria Dahvana Headley's translation of Beowulf? I know it's not classical literature, but I'd be curious to know your thoughts on it.
Exactly what I was going to ask :D
that trafficking classic monsters book sounds so interesting
I think that was part of Alain’s book. As I remember, in the end the character is revealed as a fool.

I was about to read Essay in Love now I am having second thoughts. :( But thanks for the review, might have saved me time. :)

I would suggest the wasp factors. Iain banks. Only book that does deserve the accolades of a cult novel. In my humble opinion
I read “2021” as a verb, so these are the books that caused you to 2021.
Great review video, definitely especially dug one of those reviews. You summed things up quite nice. Happy Holidays from Olympia, Washington 🇺🇲
The books that made me:
1. Horus Rising
2. False Gods
3. Galaxy in Flames

A convo between Mia Magik and The Lady of the Library... 😏
your sweaters are always eyecatching.
Is Essays on Love a work of fiction? I don't think that joke had made it across the pond until now.
I first read that title like a pirate 😂😂
50 books.... holy crap that is like 1 ish a weak
I see youve changed your name Cinzia :)
Changed my name?
Given your description I'm surprised you managed to finish Essays in Love, sounds horrible.
