@@RedBeardsGarage yeah I don't even understand why the heck it matters to so many people I mean are they fishing in it or towing it home at the end of the day lol NOPE it ain't theirs so let the owner do as he pleases with HIS boat period... So what difference does it make if you put treated or untreated on aluminum anyhow 🤷‍♂️

Treated wood isn't good in aluminum boats because it causes galvanic reaction from what they treat the wood with.

Good video with lots of laughs! FYI for the next time you need to hole saw through something carpeted, run the drill in reverse and it'll cut the carpet for you. Then go fwd to finish the hole.

Pro-Tip, run the hole saw in reverse when going threw carpet or vinyl. it cuts a perfect hole without grabbing the carpet. Once through the carpet go back to forward and drill on through. Used to install car stereos and boat radios. Would also run it in reverse through the gel coat before drilling through the fiberglass to not crack the gel coat. Yall are hilarious. Good people!

Just an idea…Turn the motor sideways and lift the prop out of the water. It will start easier . You just want to make sure it is pointing in the right direction BEFORE you put that prop back in the water. When we were kids(in the 70’s) I watched a friend of mine flip his boat sideways and sank it! (He had started his direct drive outboard with it turned to one side to get a better pull on the motor.) It was FREAKING HILARIOUS…luckily, he was only a few feet from the boat ramp, when he did it!(live and learn, I guess)

Good build! time together ✊🏼💥💯 next time don’t cut the rear corner gussets, you need them for the strength and integrity of the stern, along with transom rigidity, tying it all in together, next time take a few minutes mark and notch out the wood and reattach the corners to the transom plate as well 🤙🏼

Its a good idea to leave the threw transom bolt undrilled until you run the boat ( temporally secure it with a cable or chain ). These surface drives can have a lot of tiller torque. shifting the motor side to side a bit will help remedy that. And there is your tip of the day. lol

I got the 420 cc version of this and it rips on my 1436 definitely worth the bigger motor and governor delete also I recommend running bolts through the transom to the transom mount on the kit so it actually pulls it tight against the transom

    • @azlongtales
      @azlongtales 2 года назад +1

Yea I think the 420cc or #xp18hpe would definetly be a better match for this boat for low end torque to push larger propellers . However I think RGB is going to build a very good powerful and reliable 7.5hp that will get the job done. Very excited to see what he can build out of it.

Could u mount the engine more to the right side away from where u sit and put a CVT on it, make a stuby jack shaft for the top belt pully and connect that to the CVT. Thn it will be able to go faster without having to rev the nuts of it all the time and be better on fuel ⛽ 💯💯💯👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👊👊👊👊👊😎😎

I built a long tail mud motor and Jon boat almost identical to yours a few years ago. I couldnt afford a swamp runner kit so I built my own using a direct drive system. A couple of tips from my experience, first, use all stainless steel hardware, I had rusty bolts on my setup after just 1 year. Second, start the motor with the prop out of the water or you most definately run the risk of falling out (dont ask me how I know this). And last, I HIGHLY suggest epoxy coating the wood on the transom, I replaced mine with some pressure treated and painted it after it had all dried and and still had to replace the wood after only 4 years of owning the boat (replaced it when I did the full build and built the mud motor at the same time). Oh and like Braxton said, he still has a trolling motor, I had to use mine when the first motor I had on the setup decided to splitits factory fuel lines and my 8 year old and I were stillover 2 miles from the dock. Used the trolling motor to get all the way back to the dock and the battery was still at 3/4 charge.

For making the u on the sternplate: use a small angled iron/flat that fits between the bends. Than hammer/bent the 90°
You make it a bit confusing for some folks. When its an 8 mm socket then its 5mm tread. So an m5 bolt. This happens more with americans talking about metric treads.
Want to see the updates on this. Suggestions; look for a free revs coupler on idle( prop not turning)

I put treated wood on raw aluminum. That boat that was stored outside, in the rain and snow, for 10 years.
All raw aluminum corrodes... but, that raw aluminum/treated wood contact area was no worse than the raw aluminum exposed directly to the weather.
Treated wood is different, nowadays. Seems like it is not a super critical issue when using todays treated wood.
    It'll be fine.

Sorry for another comment, more like a question rather. I hate saw dust and know very little about it... Why aren't you supposed to put aluminum on treated wood? Will it corrode from the treatment?

Something to consider having a direct drive has less parts to wear out thus increasing reliability on the water.

If you turn the motor sideways and lift the prop out of the water, It will start just fine.( you want to make sure the prop is pointing in the right direction BEFORE you put that prop back in the water.) lol
