My favorite moment is when Anthony riffs up to that insane note and then just passes it off to Eli. It's just wonderful!
They recently did Hellfire, from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame and Whiskey in the Jar, an old Irish tune. Would love to see you react to them.
Another Voiceplay with Anthony is Golden Hour. Its really good!
This past year, it seems like Voiceplay starts each video with a discussion that starts off, "how do we make our last video look lame", and then they do just that. Amazing.
Not lame, more like: "You think we've blown your minds? Just you wait!"
Would love to have you do Geoff's version of Jack's Lament. It is gorgeous. VoicePlay is hitting it out of the park this year, check Nothing Else Matters (Metallica), In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Valhalla Calling (Miracle of Sound), Creep (Radiohead), Hellfire (Hunchback of Notre Dame), Drunken Sailor.
Voiceplay leveled up this year. They have just got better and better. 100% banger after banger
There was a lot of post production to get that electronic feel, but that high pitched, computerized kind of sound that you thought was maybe Layne was actually Cesar singing with effect on it! Lots of vocal layering in this and there is definitely some filtering on Geoff’s bass at the dubstep section that gives it a more “trumpet” sound. All in all though, I think that it sounds amazing with the production and it’s in my top five VP songs that they’ve ever done!

Please please let nothing else matters voiceplay be on your list of things to cover. It was one of the first ones they did this year and it is exquisite. Looking forward to seeing your mind blown. Jnone comes back for this one. 😁😁😁
For the official audio, which is also used in the music videos, VP often uses significant amounts of production and editing (to the point where their editing software will have dozens of active channels for some parts of a song) and has said in interviews that they do that "because we can". But they also do live performances (there are audience-made recordings of some of them on RUclips), and while those may not sound quite as polished (and certainly aren't as perfectly mixed) as the official studio audio, they still sound good. So they don't *need* the production, but they use it because they can. I think they have perfectionist tendencies: any improvement that can be made, should be made. Which also explains a lot about their arrangements.
I agree with others that "Golden Hour" and "Creep" is Anthony's best. So glad you are doing VP again! Yes, Layne went mad here - and I love what he did in "In the Air Tonight". Peter Barber is releasing an interview with Layne soon - maybe we will learn more! Hoping motherhood is treating you well 😉. Subscribing for more VP...🕊

@@TYGER0902 I'm not sure for this one. I know Hoist the Colours wasn't supposed to be Jose. It was supposed to be Anthony but then there was a covid issue with flights or something. They've had to adapt quickly before
Voiceplay's renditions of Creep and Golden Hour, also with Anthony Gargiula, are (dare I say) transcendent. Additionally, the video for the latter is adorable.
Their take on Take On Me, if truncated, wasn't bad, either.

This was filmed in an abandoned department store in the same building as their Patty Cake Studios. Just like their video for Phil Collins' In the Air Tonight was filmed behind the studio with Layne's dad's car.

I believe voice play is by far the best acapella group in the current genre. Their flexibility and diversity in performances not just songs to me is unparalleled. Thank you for your content, I look forward to watching your reviews and reactions.
I agree. I love all 3 premier a cappella groups today (PTX and Home Free), but for me, with their actual voice play, rhythm changes and even just their slightest tweaks) VoicePlay has first place in my heart (and ears :-).
What I think is that I'd love to hear what you thought about Cesar's performance.
When I originally saw their early "teaser" preview for this, I thought that Negan from AMC The Walking Dead was about to introduce somebody to Lucille; his baseball bat. Either that, or a very evil Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Also please do their version of VALHALLA CALLING. It is extremely intense. Better than Hoist the Colours.

Okay, there was a Voiceplay song that dropped in 2020 called Just Sing. Boy, they pull out, just about everybody that Voiceplay has worked with. Anthony is in that song. At the time he hadn't done a collaboration with Voiceplay yet. Well, other than that song. Now here he is again.

Layne, Kevin and Adam are secretly robot-music machines. Geoff and Tim are secretly dragons with illusion magic.
Definitely a lot more studio tricks and post-production manipulation on this than a lot of their songs. But with the talent they possess, this created something next level, in my opinion.
I don't mind since they don't depend on thise little tricks to sound great. It is only used rately to enhance their talents in the rare occaision they do use it.

I've never asked before but may I request a video for you? It's Johnny Cash singing "Hurt". He was an icon to the industry and this was his last recording before his death one year later. It was, and is, a powerful statement about life and one I'm sure you will appreciate.

Having heard VP's cover of this, I listened to the original once, and I actually think that VoicePlay's down-tempo arrangement is more powerful.
