thanks for the informative information. 👍 I love the ultralight lock. I've seen another guy on here, with a 10 inch cast iron frying pan. and another guy with a set of bike packing nunchucks. I guess I got to mention the guy with the 1 lb propane bottle and the Coleman stove. On my last trip , I took pictures of the little piles of stuff I left cutting weight. 😬
Good advice about the lock. I had a cheap D-lock, which I thought were good, on my bike once and I luckily caught some kids trying to steal it by levering the lock open with a fence post. (Sadly they killed my front fork, which I had to replace.) A good chain may be too ‘baggy’ to be able to snap in the same way, which may deter them. I bought an expensive D-lock at the time, and it didn’t happen again after. Nothing is foolproof, but I’d hate to lose a bike.
*I just bought a nice flat black Kespor K7 folding bike from a guy on offerup for $150. The bike costs $400 stock then he spent another $300 upgrading many things on this bike including shimano hydraulic disc brakes and rotors with shimano brake levers, $50 pair of Ergon handlebar grips, memory foam Wittkop air seat, front and rear led lights, aluminum phone stand, carbon fiber water bottle holder and a carrying bag for the bike. Everything looks new and the guy that I bought the bike from was going through a divorce and needed the money bad so I hurried and ruched over to him with the cash. I'm very happy with this bike considering what I paid for it and it's fast with the shimano 7 speed but I'm going to change the chainring to a 60 tooth sprocket to make it even faster.*
I usually Carry around my bike into shops. So i havent invested in a heavy bikelock. Im unsure if i would need a heavy bikelock. However ive been looking for a front carrier for quite a while. Now i have a reference. Thanks!
it depends what country you live in as to what kind of lock you need. the front carrier has been modified to fit my bike, i used some steel to make a bracket and fitted it with bolts. thanks for your comment
Thats funny, I just swapped out the gel saddle on my new (secondhand) bike for a leather Brooks saddle. Own that saddle for 20+ years, it has been on my previous 3 bikes already... I find it more comfortable than those soft jelly saddles. Keep pedalling! Eric
@@hobocyclist Yes, Brooks saddles are not cheap, but the are the best! And if you take good care of your leather saddle, it lasts a lifetime. They are quiet hard when new, and take some breaking in time (sitting in time?), but after a while they set to your body and become very comfy. So, buying one second hand can be a bit of a gamble, as it has already ''formed'' to someone else.
i dont have zizzo, but if its changing from a grip shift to thumb shifter its not hard, just make sure you've got the right parts and tools. new shifter cable will probably be necessary
Hi, and thanks so much for this video. I thought all hope was lost. But i was wondering can you show how you installed the FRONT RACK ONTO THE GREEN BIKE. And ALSO CAN SHOW WHAT PARTS DID YOU USE TO CONNECT IT TO YOUR FRAME. PRETTY PLEASE😇
Hi Jeffrey thanks for your comment! i custom made the bracket to fit that carrier to the bike, by bending and drilling a bracket from a hardware store i was able to fit it to the bike. check the previous livestream at about 12 and a half minutes for a better look at the front carrier on the green bike ruclips.net/video/A8O967fjNz8/видео.html hopefully that helps. good luck with your project!
id recommend whatever works for your requirements, i like to make my own parts and modify everything because i am low budget. if you are carrying particularly heavy load i would find a steel rack and modify it, otherwise that aluminium rack can carry up to 5kg using this method. about 11 min 30 into this video i show the steel front rack from the red bike which is much stronger ruclips.net/video/ZD81a5y-6Tw/видео.html
@@hobocyclist ok so i didnt really watch the video yet. but just in case can you pass some images to what the brackets or pieces you used to connect the ftont rack in place. so i can get an idea of what i can go and look for at the hardware store so i can start off with the idea from your parts. sorry to take your time
its all in the video, youll have to use your imagination to create a solution for your bike since im not familiar with the citizen 16" model. All the best!
I was thinking of downgrading the shitty quality gears with 6/7 (I forget) rear cog set, for a simple old school 3 speed more suiting the limited, basic design intent
Also if i may ask. How much weight do you usually carry with you on your tours? I am planning a japan trip this fall with my folding bike and a tent. i am abit worried of my base weight. Thanks in advance.
sounds great! i'm not sure what it all weighed but on my japan trip i took a tent and a backpack plus food and water have a look on my blog hobocyclist.tumblr.com/

@@MaDmanex100 wow! how are you getting into Japan? as far as i knew it was closed to tourism due to cv19 restriction? i took a gas cooker screw type last time i was in Japan but never used it, 7/11 food is pretty good there!
@@hobocyclist Its my guess that it will lift in fall. It lifts in certain areas of the country. There was a handy map once i views that detailed which part was legal to go to and ones which are not. Thanks for the video but I find it hard to believe it wasn't made 10yrs ago instead of just one year - plastic brake levers? Lever gear change? Gel seat as an upgrade and not standard? Forgive me but my $300 folding bike came with all these things bar the downgrade from revoshift to lever gear change (rapidfire changers might be a good upgrade though the revoshift is fine). Where I ride schwalbe marathon plus are essential to reduce rolling resistance and puncture proof my tyres. I have a mountain bike for the off road stuff and I find it hard to believe you don't being an NZeder :-) A front rack impedes the folded size too much for me to consider. Like most people (I imagine) who buy a folding bike the salient reason is compact storage so additions that detract in this respect are not welcome. Maybe you should do an updated video which includes Bottle Holder Carrier Pouches - these are a great upgrade to any bike.
I don’t use high end bikes here hobocyclist channel shows low budget second hand bikes and this one cost 80£ , the one I use now cost only 20$ so the upgrades I do cost only a few dollars and the parts come from second hand bikes. It’s not a high tech channel it’s about doing it for less money and enjoying the riding. I will be uploading a new vid showing a bike better suited to nz trails, if you’re interested in any low budget alternatives I have over 150 videos! Thanks for watching & taking time to comment 🚲👍
My favorite shifter ever was an old school simple single thumb shifter produced by Suntour in the eighties. Heavy duty, non click, simple. Very rare today. EBay has nock off generic old school thumb shifters with the wire thumb twist screw, but they look shit quality
Someone on a mountain bike came up behind me on pavement whilst I was wearing headphones, once he passed in front of me he muttered some insult at me to which I responded appropriately, anyway, he had to come back with some more shit, to which I replied once again, this verbal rally climaxed with him turning back, disembarking his steed and grabbing his heavy motorcycle chain, such as the fine example featured in this production, until he stood before me, one hand holding bike, the other swinging his chain menacingly at me. I couldn't help chuckling and asked him, so you're going to try wrapping that chain around my head are you? Don't you think that's a bit extreme? He mumbled some threat upon my very life with an embarrassed expression, jumped back on his bike, dressing his chain across his chest like an Afghan warriors bandolier and he cycled off still muttering threats. Remember, I was merely walking on the sidewalk minding my business, my only sin perhaps the gay jaunt instilled in my stride by the brass band music I was whistling along to. He was riding on the sidewalk against our sacred code of highways, byways and carriageways. He somehow regarded my very presence impeding his cyclist privilege as a capital offence? Fckn cyclists!
