I hope it's not too late but may I suggest putting in glass french doors instead of the big window that you mention at 10:17 . You may or may not need the access it will give you in the future but if you do need it... nice to have...
As a retired General Contractor, I'm impressed with your texturing technique. A smooth finish is so much harder to get right than a splattered texture but it looks so much better.
Why texture and pull it flat? Why not just paint it twice if you want a flat finish? I've textured 100s of homes and used a crows foot or orange peel finish for a (texture). If you pull it flat there is no texture, so why even do it? Scratching my head .

@@westiemafia2704 fyi it's not putty it's called mud in the industry, putty is for nail holes in wood. and if you pull the beds correctly it is perfectly flat so that is not necessary. The 3rd bed should be wider than what was done here and you don't use a hawk to hold the mud. You use a mud pan or drywall pan. Personally I prefer a light texture, it adds a better feel than just flat.
That, SIR, is the reason I install ALL my electrical wiring in conduits. And the conduits either vertical or horizontal, so it is easy to protect them from damage. With conduits it is easy to pull new [additional] wires without having to rip out the finish and insulation from the walls. Just my 2 Cents worth of observation. That, MADAM, is a very good reason to wear a bonnet. It protects not only your hair [from paint, plaster, dirt, etc], but also the cranial skin. ;-)

Well, when you really think about it, using a piping bag to put mud on a hawk, is a lot like using a piping bag to write Happy Birthday on a cake with icing. Except mud isn't as tasty as icing and you don't have to sand icing.
Before you close the wall on your house maybe a set of double doors instead of a picture window. Well are you going to grunt the cooking stove , refrigerator/freezer ,bathtub and shower and all other home related fixture's up the stairs with no handrail issues / lack of / or too narrow/ and steep.. Lockable doors could let you use the digger to set big pieces in living room using short jib boom instead of bucket ..
So, you may be too far into this for my suggestion to make sense but we built a spare bedroom/office over the machine shop side of our shop. (other side is a 2.5 story vehicle bay much like yours). Instead of a window into the bay we put a double door with a very small balcony outside it. I would suggest you consider the same as it would make getting big items into/out of your living space much easier than up stairs outside by hand... I have no idea how we would have gotten the couch up the staircase so I am VERY glad we decided to do it on our space. I know you said you where going to bring in your initial appliances before framing in the window but, what about replacement units or other furniture down the road? Love the progress and look forward to seeing more!

I think the least pleasant part of drywalling, is the sanding, yuk! We have a similar shop/ apartment setup and love the window overlooking the shop. Looking great!
When I first saw a rough opening @9:45 from the living room to the shop I thought, GREAT, they are putting in a sliding glass door like I suggested! Alas, it's a window. Everything is looking great though.
Maybe French doors with 1/2 lights in the top instead of the window overlooking the shop. You could still put the couch in front of them. It would give you great access to move heavy things in and out. Everything looks great!
When doing drywall don’t sand it’s messy! Instead buy some natural sponge and use just enough water to wipe the joint after it drys! I learns this rom a pro drywall contractor!
I like the Weather you Guy's get!! It Keeps the " Rift Raft" away unless they have Ski- treads as Tires plus the Peace of Mind it gives you!! When i'm in the Country it's takes me a little time to Adjust to how Quiet it gets, like a Ringing in your Ear until few hours later when it Abate!! Hope you all had a Merry XMas! I'm sure it is going to be a crazy memorable one. It takes a special kinda of patience to work drywall - I don't have it absolutely. Love the idea for the big window into the workshop - that'll be pretty amazing once realized. For a future episode, I'm curious to hear how the clean water preparation has been going - like where are you storing the water, how do you keep it from freezing, blah, blah, and blah? I keep thinking I want to take a hot shower after watching an episode and wonder how you do laundry and avoid swamp ass and/or have your sense of smell gone primitive and you no longer can tell (ha, ha). Maybe an episode on the basics - water, food, hygiene, waste management, where are the dogs taking a dump and do you clean that up (like have an area to toss dog pooh so it can decompose and not landmine your space), etc. Inquiring minds wanna know ;-p.
Best part of watching your vlogs is, how you guys support each other and compliment each other when the other person has done a great job, you guys are my favourite couple on youtube , great vlog as always and lots of love from Pakistan.
I am very good at drywall and trained by a master drywall expert known for doing perfect "flat work" (no texture). That said..... I really HATE drywall. Courtney, I feel your pain. LOL

Drilled thousand of holes over the years remodeling and retiring homes. I had to put bathroom in for in-laws and basement beams are all spaced crazy. Always used a friends offset drill or tried to jam my 1/2 dewalt with short bits. Ended up trying 1/4 inch dewalt impact with brand new Irving self pull 3 flute bits. Will never go back to any drill if I can help it. The hammer action puts no torque on your wrists and hardly needs pressure.
Another fun peek into the apartment build out. Subtitled "Courtney Needs a Shower", it's impressive that everything you guys do seems to come out looking so professional and this is just one more example. Nice job. Awesome stuff! A suggestion...18 big boss roller will cut down on your labor time. In my experience of 30 years painting is a huge time saver, especially on callings. Love the channel and keep up the great work!!
I note you skim coat the drywall (as they do in the UK). Here in Australia we flush the joints and fixing holes then simply paint over. 2 coats suffice for a perfect finish.

Here’s an suggestion for getting your stove and refrigerator and large furniture upstairs easily , build a 4 x 4 platform and put eyeballs in the corners and run cables up through pulleys do you lift everything to the second floor through the opening that you left in the wall

What a fantastic idea in getting a smooth ceiling. You are so good at mudding and taping. I never found it easy but someone had to do it. I usually put on the mud and then used a whist broom to make swirls. Then paint to hide my errors.....lol.
that thermal fan, try turning it around so it blows air across the stove pipe. it will warm the area around faster plus you won't be pulling hot air across its motor.

there are two things i can't stand, taping and painting. when i had my upstate new york home, it had T-1-11 siding on the outside. it was stained a dark brown. after many years, it needed another staining. so i set aside one weekend to do it. after about 2 hours of starting the staining, i called a painter, and hired him to finish the job.
I don’t know why no one ever talks about it but you in most applications you can use a damp sponge instead of sanding. After doing drywall for a year it blew my mind when I was told. Really keeps down on the dust.

Tip for doing drywall finishing. Use a wet sponge ( not dripping wet) instead of sanding. This eliminates the dust.

In the uk when you tape and joint the boards we just paint them as it's more of a commercial finish. Fair play for doing that!

I always forget how messy it is until it’s time to do the job… then I grumble a bit but am always very rewarded by the end!

Mix your soap into the water 1st, easier to gauge, also use less soap. Great job, walls are easy compared to ceilings.

Several hours after enjoying this video, I found myself entering my home, whistling Helen Reddy's iconic anthem of the women's liberation movement of the early 1970s, 'I Am Woman.' ... I whistled it quite a while before I even noticed that I was whistling. Then I began to wonder how memory of that song had risen from my subconsciousness? ... Aha! When Courtney was mudding the ceiling, she said to Riley, "I am Woman!" ... Thanks for the trip back 50+ years down memory lane to my wonderful college days. Thanks also for helping keep me in a great mood for many hours. You guys are the best. ... BTW: I thought of a couple more seasonings to give your diet a bit more pep - Spike seasoning and brewer's yeast. ... I mentioned Tiger Sauce in a comment to another video. Courtney, I'd bet you might really like it sprinkled on vegetables, meats, seafood, in soups, stews, and chowders. Enjoy!

there are two things i can't stand, taping and painting. when i had my upstate new york home, it had T-1-11 siding on the outside. it was stained a dark brown. after many years, it needed another staining. so i set aside one weekend to do it. after about 2 hours of starting the staining, i called a painter, and hired him to finish the job.

I don’t know why no one ever talks about it but you in most applications you can use a damp sponge instead of sanding. After doing drywall for a year it blew my mind when I was told. Really keeps down on the dust.
Courtney, you could wear a salad cover over your hair during the overhead mud skimming? You know the disposable scrunchy shower cap things for salad bowls. I think Saran makes them.
