    This woman is the best thing about the South. Doesn’t matter what kind of mood you’re in or where you’re from she will make you smile and remind you what’s great about America.

      Agreed! She is the epitome of what the real South embodies and its hospitality and manners! I wish I could've had the honor of seeing her live and in person but in lieu of having that opportunity, I will have to settle for enjoying her classic style and true comedy via these timeless videos! Rest in Peace, Jeanne Robertson! You are truly a missed gem!

      It would have been good to have seen Jeanne in person. Looking & listening on TikTok is better for me; I laugh so much at times that I miss what she says next. I can listen again to get all the jokes. I'm a big guy laugher & I have to keep going to the ladies room. I do love 💗💗 the clean comedy!!! That is harder to get. Thanks for all the jokes you put out that all can enjoy with the click on the phone. I enjoyed hearing stories of your family. The first one I heard was sending husband to grocery store. I listen to that often, THANKS 🙏🙏🕊️🕊️🕊️👏👏👏🥰🥰🥰💕💕

    Reminds me of a story where a burial society from Seattle had to travel down to Tacoma to pick up a body and bring it back to Seattle for burial. There was the hearse driver and an attendant in the front. On the way back to Seattle, the driver turned to the attendant and said he needed to use a restroom and could they pull over at a service station. While the driver was in the restroom, a wino sauntered over and asked the attendant if he could get a ride. Hoping to scare off the wino, the attendant said there was no room in the front, but he could get in the back with the body. The wino, much obliged, climbed in back. The driver returned and off they went. A few miles down the road, the wino speaks up, "Hey buddy, mind if I smoke?" Completely shocked, the driver ended up putting the hearse in the ditch.

    Nov 2022..... I come here for a laugh every now and then. "It's a long way to Macomb Mississippi!" has become one of my family's catch phrases when describing/discussing/joking about long trips. It doesn't matter the real destination, lol. "You better use the restroom, it's a long way to Macomb, Mississippi." or 'That's a two day drive! Oh well, it's a long way to Macomb, Mississippi." Thanks go out to Jeanne and Left Brain in heaven and all of the dear friends who supported her.

    Ms. Jeanne Robertson, found you by accident yesterday (Saturday July 20, 2019) and I've been watching your videos...……….. you're very funny. You have proven that one can be funny without using a "profanity" in your jokes. As a Comedian myself, I find people like to hear clean "jokes". I am an American of Mexican decent ( and proud of it) so, my material is about myself, family or friends. Yes, there is so much humor in everyday life and if you can take that and make people laugh...……….. well, what can I say? Continue making people laugh, God has given us a gift that not to many people can do and that is make people laugh. Thank you Jeanne Robertson for making me laugh this weekend. I needed that...……….. God bless you and Left-Brain...…….

    This just tickled me!! We wanted to bury my Daddy in the old church cemetery. He had been a member for 50 years, there were no spots left or so we thought. A old man had bought plots for him and his wife and they had divorced. The children didn’t bury their mother next to their father. My Daddy is resting peacefully next to a total stranger. Knowing Daddy he made friends with his new roommate as soon as he got to heaven.

    One time, in the sixties, on a remote Scottish island, where we lived, one of the locals passed. My daddy was assigned to get him in the coffin, forgetting poor Rory was a hunchback. In my fathers words, "We tried him in the box sideways, frontways, puir wee fella, couldnae get him tae fit. I had tae add two extra inches a' the wey roond tae fit him." I was ending myself laughing, had to ask him to stop.

    My father always used to complain that my mother dawdled when getting ready to go anywhere with him, and he used to say: "You'll be late to your own funeral." Pop passed first, and we all went to Tennessee for his funeral. Then, some years later, Mom died, and there was a lot of confusion concerning her funeral, but we had her remains cremated and due to some terrible mix-ups concerning the rather draconian rules at my work place regarding bereavement leave, and my two sisters' inability to attend due to their residence in nursing homes, no one was able to deliver her "cremains" to the site where her ashes and Pop's were going to be deposited. We finally managed to get the ashes delivered to Mom's cousin, but the delivery was not in time for the ceremony. Pop turned out to be right: Mom was late to her own funeral.

      My uncle was late for his funeral at Arlington.
      It involved a blizzard that shut down the federal government in Washington. The powers that be decided to reopen the government on a sunny Friday even though the roads, like RT 66, weren't completely cleared. Major traffic jams resulted.
      The hearse was stuck in traffic and was late. We missed the service completely due to gridlock, and they couldn't actually bury him because there were 3 ft of snow on the ground.
      They did do the rifle salute and taps. I'm told they were nice.
      I think my uncle would have laughed.

    I have been following Jeanne for over 5 years after stumbling on her accidentally! I have watched all her videos several times and know the stories well, but she always makes me laugh and feel at home. I remember my father’s funeral well as my mother was a much beloved police office in our little down so they honored her by honoring my father and he was buried with great ceremony. My mother died many years later and had moved from the small town so her funeral was quiet and unremarkable, people forget you very quickly, except for the fact that when they opened the grave there was already a body on top of my father. An explanation here, in our small cemetery plots are vertical rather than horizontal due to lack of space, in a family plot whoever dies first goes on bottom and the remaining partner goes on top when they die. Well there was a women interned above my daddy when they opened the grave, seems they had buried her in the right plot but had put daddy in the wrong plot. They would have had to dig up Mr. who knows, and dig up my father switch them and rebury both plus rebury the woman over her real husband. After contacting me about the problem my solution was to contact the other families relatives and see if the would agree to switching plots with my family, that way both men remained where they were, and they only had to move Mrs. who knows over to be on top of her husband and put momma on top of daddy and move the grave markers. The other family agreed and that is how it was handled. I often wonder what momma would have said about all the years she put flowers on the wrong man’s grave and whether the other woman had put flowers on daddies grave all those years.

    Jeanne, I am a shut-in by the Covid-19 virus and discovered you for the first time. You are hilarious! Although I am a 3rd generation Oregonian, my roots are in North Carolina (Caswell, Person & Granville Cos.) Your story about digging up Cousin Rudolph Elroy took me right back to a distant cousin from Leasburg, NC and her story about a Great Grandmother some time after the Civil War.
    When Solomon died they buried him in the family cemetery at the back of the property and even then it was real chore to get him back there for burial. His younger 2nd wife lived long after he died. As she neared the end of her life, she made her children promise they would inter her next to her husband in the family cemetery. Eventually the day came and she passed away. When the family thought about battling chiggers, mosquitoes and dense brush they decided it would be so much easier to bury her in the Leasburg Cemetery right inside the town. And they did!
    Four or five families live on the home property and family members started seeing a light in the night floating from the Leasburg Cemetery down and across the fields before disappearing in the brush in the direction of the family cemetery. The family began to talk and they were sure she was telling them that they hadn't followed her instructions. All this time her little log cabin had set empty with other families nearby. This story was brought to a climax when several family members were out in the yard and a chicken wandered into her house. There was a lot of squawking and the chicken came out of the door and fell over dead!
    That did it for the family! As soon as feasible they dug up Mom/Grandma and moved her body to the family cemetery. The moving night lights ceased.

Now, I'm back in MO (30 years older, mind you) trying to arrange my own end-of-life "affairs". It IS hilarious and serious at the same time! JEANNE'S counterpoint is brilliant!

    I’m from the south. The year my mother died, she had a conversation with my youngest brother about her funeral requirements. She told him to make sure she had her shoes on when she was placed in the coffin. My brother has a very brutal sense of humor. After laughing at her he asked her where she planned on going. She told him she didn’t know but she wanted to be prepared! When I went shopping to buy her burial suit, I included a pair of shoes and explained my mother’s wishes to the funeral director. Not the first time he has heard that story.

    When my sister-in-law’s son was little, she asked him what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday. He said “funeral cake.” It was the one she always brought to the church basement dinner when someone died. We still just call it funeral cake, named by a 5 year old.

    • @pampriddy7659
      @pampriddy7659 5 лет назад +19

      B Dub I can relate to that. I started making a wonderful jello salad to take to funerals or the home of the bereaved. It was finally named “Pam’s Funeral Salad”. Now it’s expected at every funeral or church function we have. If anybody asks about it or for the recipe that’s the only name it’s known by around here. The original name on the magazine clipping was Lazy Day Quick N Easy Luscious Lemon Salad so we just shortened it! 😉😳 🍋

      @bdub1590 5 лет назад +7

      Pam Priddy Nothing wrong with having your own claim to fame! What’s funny to me is the funeral cake has coconut, your dish has jello. Coconut and jello are the two things on this earth I will not eat. I’ve never even tasted Jello, and only have tasted coconut by accident. I guess I just can’t have dessert at the funeral dinner!

    When my stepmom and her sister went to make burial arrangements for their cremated sister, they were in the cemetery business office and there on the shelf were the cremains in a box of their mother who had passed some 10 years earlier!!!! Neither of them were the type to take things too seriously and just had a big laugh because their mother, who lived well into her 90’s, had been a stern regimented corporate executive secretary in her career. “A dyed in the wool Republican” she called her.
    My stepmom just laughed when she told me the story saying that shelf was a good place for her. Then she could oversee all the goings on in the office! 🤣🤣🤣. True story! My stepmom has since passed. She lived a good life and had many funny family stories to tell. I miss her.

I know that you think this was a Southern thing but family burials like that happen up here in Wisconsin. With us it is usually ham sandwiches with the potato salad. Why didn't you send a 7-UP pound cake? Maybe LB didn't want to go shopping for the ingredients? Hope you are feeling/doing better. Luv and Hugs.
