TAKE THAT SPUD GUN!
SPUD GUN:I CAN STILL FUCKING BREAK BLOCKS WHILE PROVIDING A NUTROUSIONAL SNACK AFTERWARDS!
Please play some mobile games
Rail gun: Well I can shoot over 200 blocks! And while you break blocks, I go through them!

Derp Baked Potato.
That’s really cool, but it’s technically not a railgun. It’s a coil gun/gauss gun. Railguns pass current through the projectile. The magnetic field created in the projectile is repelled by the magnetic field in the rails behind the projectile. Also, IM SO HYPED FOR DESTRUCTION PHYSICS
Maybe you should use the sharp mod to create a projectile that can damage what it hits?
G4mmaLotus good idea
The bullet ending up in specific locations is because scrap is using the "bullet physics engine", itll move an object and check if its colliding with something, it will not check if the path it is going in will cause collision, if on one physics update the object is between 2 walls and the next physicsupdate its between 2 walls a bit further again and this repeats it can penetrate a lot of walls , only once the object is actually inside a wall colliding itll kill velocity and cause collision physics to take over
Hi Brent! Remember me from steam?
@@veqr7266 no. Not at all
Thoughts on the railgun -- I'm not sure how you'd make it work with a big magazine, but one way to reliably load the ammo would be to have a set of magnets in the back that hold the round in perfect position, and then when you turn on the rails they should overpower the holding magnets, or have a piston that pushes the round across the transition point.
Re:firing through objects -- collision in games is generally handled on a per-frame basis; if the projectile doesn't land inside the object on any given frame it won't register collision. This means the faster the projectile the larger the steps are for each frame, and the faster the FPS the more steps there are for a given distance. I could see recording reducing your FPS, but that should make it penetrate more, not less.
Also I'm curious, can other blocks flying at speed break cardboard? That might be a more interesting penetration test.
Steve Pittman block interaction of any kind doesn't break cardboard currently cardboard is basically just like any other block until either a hammer or potatoe hits it
Ah, ok.
Maybe the slower FPS aligns with a wall sooner
Interactable custom Spud weaponry has explosives.
I Didn6 know that thanks ☺
But a rail gun isn't explosive
Actually, they are. They don't specifically have explosives mounted though, they just hit stuff so hard that they explode.
*tnt exists*:
kan: hey guys look my new gun
friends:o god...RUUUN
kan:omae wa mou shindeiru...

*explosions*
the gamer BR 😂🤣
Cringe
That’s awesome dude 😂
the gamer BR Omae wa mou shindeiru 🤩
He'd probably add some fins from ings mod
If I were you, I'd have North magnets on the coild at the end on a 15 degree turn. That will make the bullets a little bit more consistent and faster as the South magnets pull the bullet back a tiny bit.
I'm late to watching this video but if he pushed a North magnet into barrle of North magnets it would lunch it better probably.
Putting sensors between the south magnets on the railgun that deactivate the magnets the projectile already passed should make it more powerful and could make it more consistent.
Maybe your misfire problem is caused by the constant pressure of the piston pushing the mag into the "chamber"
You should try a simple more linear mag reload system and see if that works
Nortio since the pressure is in the middle, I doubt it..
Maybe the problem is the shots are touching, causing friction..
Which can explain the misfires going to the right side
At the end, I noticed that one of the rounds that hadn't been fired yet was already activated (the switch was green). That may have caused some of those issues.
What I would do to fix it would be to angle the magnet blocks on the barrel. Maybe you can make the barrel spin very fast, that could help too.
Is the piston always pushing against the wall. That could be why the mis fires are happening. Maybe to fix this you could have a pipe on the wall aimed at the centre block so the rounds don't come into contact with the wall.
William Utting i think thats the problem too
Can you build a mag lev train?
Multiple north magnets might have a stronger force of repel than the south magnets, so it might put it off
EDIT: that should explain misfire
Cool video, I think the reason the projectile goes through the walls in a consistent-ish (based on distance from wall) way is because the game only checks for collisions every physics frame, so it might make it through the first few walls, and sometimes even all of them, but eventually, one of the physics frames will land it on one of the walls. This will be consistent with the distance to the gun because every shot starts on a physics frame, and assuming no misfires, it should follow closely to the path of the previous shot.
TRAIN!!! I love trains!
Build the train!
*Impending train sounds
Derp Baked Potato. Hi again
Rail gun projectiles aren’t explosive, it just relies on force
Therizinosaurus Cheloniformis Some are
Therizinosaurus Cheloniformis dude is scrap mechanic 😂😂
I am so happy you did it thank you
If Scrap Mechanic runs it’s physics code in a regular time interval (each 0.01s for example), then there are exact certain distances in which the spuds intersect those walls, therefore registering a collision and further physics calculations. It’s almost like the pattern seen when two wavelenghts of different frequencies meet eachother. A new frequency is created, and that frequency is when the game registers a collision between a moving object and several other consecutive objects (walls in this case).
Yay new video have a good day
In case you didn't notice - physics in this game depend on available CPU or GPU power. You record - physics change. It's by the way the slowest "rail" gun ever ;)
A rail gun should act like a linear motor, not just attracting but also repelling the projectile. Add sensors along the length of the barrel that will flip the polarity of each row of magnets as the bullet travels through them. A mag lev train works the same way.
The problem I'm seeing is that they are still attracting the project after it's making it past the magnet, so maybe make some 1 second delay stopping unit, or add some sensors to shut down the magnets when they are passed by the projectile. Also, this is a guass cannon, but tbh, that's better due to the potential being much greater than a railgun, because it's potentially is limited by the length and physics, meaning that you can get things sub light speeds with a lot more magnets. This concludes my knowledge of magnetic guns.
Try spining the projectiles
And how meny rails will it take to stop the projectile
Kan you sound a bit sick
A little seasonal allergies I think but I'll be fine :D Thanks for asking!
That loading mechanism tho 👌
it'd be nice if we had an actual popup for the magnets when you hit e on them and in the menu you can choose the polarity and the strength of the magnet. then certain things like the maglev train are much easier to pull off. The scripts do need some fine-tuning, but that takes time and that's ok
The penetration must have something to do with how often the game checks for collissions, if the projectly travels 5 blocks per frame and the game can't check between those frames then the projectile will just skip the walls, but if you're at a certain distance, the projectile may hit the wall at the same time that it checks for collisions, you can think of it as the projectile constantly teleporting forward a certain distance each frame, if it teleports into a wall it detects the collision
I also made a railgun (only not with a mag) and to solve the problem that the projectile needs to fload you need to make wals around it so it only can go the way of the other magnets.
Can you build a floating house?
Jan Krähe can you
meowster the third no, since I do not own the game
Jan Krähe same here
make the barrel longer, while making the bottom row just a bit shorter because it would counteract gravity which would pull it towards the bottom while the magnetic force amplifies it.
activate the magnet as soon as it gets in position rather than right before you fire, give the script some time to calculate what's happening
for the last time, THAT IS NOT A RAIL GUN, IT IS A GAUSS GUN!!!!!!!!
Nice!
When I found out about this mod I instantly tried making a train, but I got stuck somewhere and I think it was the problem of the platform (train) not staying exactly between the other magnets.
I can’t wait to see the maglev train.
This isn't so much an electromagnetic rail gun as it is a magnetic cannon- true railguns put a current through the projectile using two "rails", which in combination with a magnetic field running between two more rails propells the projectile forwards. If the flux lines run left to right, the current runs down to up and the force is forwards.
This was the first thing I thought of making with the magnetic blocks
I managed to make one that shot straight up
i would not be this early withought discord notification XD
kAN, you said earlier in the video, that if the particle collides with something before it flies out of the barrel it misfires. Maybe you souldn't make that piston feeding design, or just make it 1 block less on the piston extension. Hope that helps!
Well explosives are apperently coming out in the next update... ;)
YAY
Add a magnet with the same setting as the bullet so as it leaves the barrel it reverses the polarity, causing it to be pushed a bit further
Love the vids
Good. Now make a rail internet!
this is cool
So hyped....
I would call it a coilgun, but eeeeeeepic work
Build a tank equipped with a more compact railgun then shoot at a the armor of a copy. See if tank warfare is actually possible with this.
I think they misfire because they have to sit, charge up and gain power, because of the repel, before u shoot it if u dont it wont have the same accuracy
Nice vid Kan
maybe rename this prototype to: magnetic _Fail_ gun?
edit: this gun is very safe in battles because it has an impressive 80% chance of misfiring.
Safe?
luv the vids
Make the switch a sensor that is pointed up, so when it exits the barrel it turns off
Also I think a bar shaped clip would work better than a spool
They need to finish the explosion physics in scrap mechanic so we can make actual rail guns
Adyn Holden yeah
Railguns in real life use magnets....
Levi Johnston the projectiles explode on impact
"an electromagnetic railgun" a railgun by definition uses electromagnetism to fire a metal projectile as high speeds so that's like saying an electromagnetic electromagnet powered gun
You have a rail gun and I have a skate board rail gun xD
Now just get those saws you used in scrapman's MM episode 100 video and put them with magnets in the rail gun
Maybe you should have a one shot where you load the magnet DOWN the barrel instead of relying on a spud gun
put it on the workshop
and try levitating the bullet using magnets
Kan I think it might be rubbing against the bolts that are by it, you should try to space out the bolts
If you could make a spud gun attached to this and make it find a target and the stick to it then have the slide gun activated and start shooting whatever is in contact with
Rail guns usually destroy themselves irl
8:42 i know What the deal is there is No deal let Scrap Mechanic be it self no bullying Scrap Mechanic xD
You should use a longer barrel
could the issue perhaps be the piston pushing the projectile being fired against the side of the mechanism?
you stated that projectile collisions while firing created problems so it would only make sense.
unless i misunderstood something, which is possible. cool experiment tho.
aaand i just realized someone already said this, de derp de doo.
This is a gauss gun not a railgun. A gauss gun uses magnets to pull a projectile forward, although its usually perfectly timed to always have the magnets behind the projectile turned off while the ones up front are on. A railgun has many high power capacitors with two rails that are not yet a closed circuit, but then the projectile comes in contact with both rails, completing the circuit and causing extreme electromagnetic waves to pull the projectile along the rails and out the end of the barrel.
Someonw should make a block to shoot a potato when it comes in contact with something, then the railgun could be used in base battles
Real Railguns. Work by pushing not pulling
maybe if you put a one block spacer on the wall that the piston is pushing the "mag" to?
Could the piston pushing be the issue for consistency
Imagine making explosive railgun rails and filling the mag and a misfire on the first shot. All of those are chained. You will make a nuke
you should g weld a explosive with a north magnetic block or a few
Use the magnet motor and put in tbe huge working engine (also axle too)
To make a starter
When the update/explosions comes... there wil be a mod with spud guns that explode... I canr weat to see the moden cannons
Just weld it to the ground, I think it miss fires cuz the Proto is bouncing
If you could put the explosive block you could if it would shoot strait have a destruction cannon.
That is not a rail gun but a coil gun, you are using magnets around the projectile (coils) that attract it to one point so fast that it shoots out, a rail gun creates a constant magnetic field when in contact with rails instead. Your setup is just more similar to a coil gun
That's like when you wall bang some one in call of duty or even in rainbow six siege😂
Give the spud gun a block of free space
what if you had the ammo in the clip more spaced out so the ammo doesn't touch on the sides when being launched?
When explosions come make a kamikazi 5x5x5 cube
For multiplayer Monday do maglev train racing
Could you use this idea to launch a ship from 0-100 mph from a launch bay?
Do a multiplayer with it!
maybe it is because of thr rotating bearing? maybe it dosn't rotate fully before it shoots
Are you sick?
Edit: mag lev train would be nice.
I think this is more of a coilgun than a railgun
A railgun is defined as a gun that fires a projectile by means of two magnetic rails
I tried to make a rail gun, and then I put it on a narrow gauge train. Let's just say that magnets should stay on toy trains.
Make a plane that can switch between autopilot and manual pilot that also has a gunner seat under the cockpit. Please. Also, spud guns are obsolete
Why not angle the magnets and put the projectile in the middle then break the block and good stuff happens?
What about longer barrel? :D
the problem is that piston pushing the projectile against the wall of the loading area
go to 2:27 and slow it down to 0.25 you can see the magnet moving too the are and it act kinda weird
when the night is over, my life is over,
technically more simular to a coil gun
Add a saw blade and it can do damage.
Can you slow down the pojectile with a reversed system on the other end for fast travel?
Hey kan hows your day mines
Hi KAN I am a big fan
