    I used to live in Torquay for 25 years. This devastation has been a long time coming and the railway line should have been re-routed inland decades ago. One can't help but feel for the residents this has affected - not enough has been done by the authorities over the years who must have seen this coming - because I suspect most people knew that one day this would happen.

      Beeching shouldnt have closed the Southern Region line to Plymouth via Okehampton- that was a good alternative to the Western Region line at Dawlish....

    Station announcement at Penzance: "Your attention please. The 10:35 Penzance to London train is delayed due to some fool building the main line right next to the sea ! Passengers are requested to alight at Dawlish station and swim for 50 yards before joining another train to resume their onward journey's. First Great Western trains apologise for any wetness or drowning on this service. Thank you"
    (Only kidding Mr Brunel !)

    Nature is a force not to be taken for granted. It has taken lives, it has reclaimed land. I laid a patio in my back garden, nice job and I did all I could to stop anything growing between the slabs. Then one day a blade of grass appeared so I left it, after a few weeks it had become a great big weed and was pushing the two slabs apart! This may seem trivial compared to what is going on in this video but I think it just goes to show the force that is nature.

    Hi Dereton, I subscribed yesterday, and that's how I came to see your video today. I havent heard of Dawlish before. Excellent video showing the waves and the angry sea, are these out of the ordinary for down in Devon? Beautiful to see but the damage can cause so much misery to the people and animals affected by an angry mother nature! keep safe!

    I don't know what the tidal range at Dawlish is, (I guess about 4 metres maybe?) but wouldn't the bay be a good location to create a tidal lagoon like the one they plan to build at Swansea? Clean energy, while providing coastal protection and amenities.

    Where is this Dawlish ? Is it a coastal town in England perhaps? That sea is very muddy and very sharkey to look at. Hard to believe how close to the sea a road and a railway have been built. Terrific video - thanks for sharing

    For uncounted eons, the sea has been chewing away at this coastline. No doubt, the geologists could give us a reasonably good estimate of the rate at which the land is receding. Enter a very clever fellow called Brunel, who wants to do the King Canute number and defy time and tide. We've actually been damn lucky to get the service out of this stretch of railway that we have had. Certainly an absolute waste of money to try and extend its life.

      *****
      Respect for whom? I've held some small degree of Christian/Humanist belief for most of my life and I'd never dream of making a comment like "Warrior for Christ"....who's views I'd frankly place on the outright fucking lunatic level...
      Thereagain, based on this one comment alone, and my admittedly narrow predilections, I'd place I Monique slightly lower than a dog turd, so I shouldn't read too much into it.
      All the best

      but sadly he couldn't and didn't keep his small-minded, prejudiced and ignorant views to himself could he? So if I choose to criticise his response, my comments, so long as they are fair, are both relevant and appropriate?

      cogidubnus1953 well at the end of the day he is quoting from a book of BS. As most, if not all the principle meanings of the bible are lies

    • @cogidubnus1953
      @cogidubnus1953 10 лет назад

      He/She's on dodgy and biblically presumptious ground theologically anyhow. Acts 1 v 6 and 7 "So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?. He said to them, It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;" In other words, for an alleged christian, it is totally wrong to predict the end of the world at a particular time.
