MUD Vs BEACH Challenge! Mudlarking With The Mudpies!

- This week we met up with the wonderful Mudpies and took on the mudlarking challenge Mud v Beach! We had a fantastic time and Kate even ventured out into the deep mud. We found some interesting things and so did the Mudpies. Come see what we found and we hope you enjoy our new collaboration! There is also a mosaic craft at the end, a deconstructed Willow pattern plate :)

Because of some of your amazing comments we have realised that the mystery item is more than likely a bi-conical Spindle Whorl. Spindle whorls are weights from wooden drop spindles. Their weight helped give the spindle momentum in the twisting, or spinning, of fibres into yarn, for later making into textiles. We are uncertain of its age but it could be really old. We are contacting Kent flo to see if they can age it for us. We will make an update video when they reply! Thank you all again so much!!! K & C xx

Mudpies/Andy & Josie, Loved this video of new experiences for all involved. Kate in your (Fab designer mud shoes) was fun. The anticipation, along w/some uncertainty Kate was feeling, as well as Fleur, was palpable. Yes we were feeling it also. : ) Next time we will most likely see Oscar out in the mud, in the mud shoes, along with Kate and you two? It brings a whole new dimension to mudlarking. : ) Muddy Hugs to You All!
Excellent score with the tiny doll's arm, Andy. They've attached it to Frank, & I suggested he be renamed Andy, since you found his missing arm. Hmmm... Or maybe they can just call his arm Andy. LMAO
Definiteliy looks like more fun than here in the Cslifornia desert at 46 C/ 115 F. Oscar’s bee find is really neat, good eye.

@@Agathanagatha yes, not sure there is a market big enough to do it but still, I heard Amazon eventually did that. (since they got the sellers (which got Amazon worldwide logistics but give them all the data and a fee) and buyers data, at some point, they can just produce cheaply in some country and take 100% of the market share from the original company)

Fleur, I think your fish or lion with the open mouth would be a wonderful fountain for the doll house. Such wonderful finds. But the best part was seeing you together with the Mudpies!

The mudpies have evolved mudlarking, at its finest! They have given us a gift! the finds that are way out there in the mud, that everyone is just dying to see! I still love the small things on the beach though! I was waiting for this collaboration for the longest time! Yay!

I have always loved the "I SPY" type of books where you search within a crowded image for little hidden objects and that is exactly what Mudlarking reminds me off. I could see me running out of hours and daylight if I were with you. I love doing anything that takes me away from the world around me. I would definitely need to pack food and water or I would forget to eat or drink. 💝

Your Willow Reconstructed was wonderful, Flor. I don’t have many broken “willow” but I have lots of other shards. Your demonstration has given me inspiration to make my own pattern with the shards I have.

Beautiful finds! Looks like fun tramping around on the mud! Lovely reconstruction! Your odd bead reminds me of what they call a "old world style " Bead or possibly a bell bead? The bad you call a cane bead I have always known them as bugle beads! lol they are so fun to find! Looks like you had a fun and exciting day! perhaps you can make those mud shoes and give a go from time to time? lol I could see you both on a hovercraft flying aacross the mud flats! It would be a blast!
We think the odd bead is a spindle whorl and very very old, which is exciting! :)

Well, now I have to go check out the Mudpies channel! I think it was very brave of Kate to venture out on the mud! Oh to be young again! And Oscar's bee was beautiful! Fleur, the plate was a real work of art.

Love seeing Kate with the squelching shoes on. They take them to the muddy land where the good, big juicies are hiding. But, the teeny, weeny treasures lie between the flotsam on the drier beach. What a fun day. Fleur your plate is wonderful.
We still love the tiny things but the odd muddy bottle is good also haha :)

7:25. Below is another doll's arm. Just by your pinky finger. Oscar's bee was spot on. Loved these finds. But the priceless one is the Willow plate!!! I bet your thighs we're hurting after the mud adventure, I know mine were after snowshoeing for the first time. Time for a nap for all. Blessings

It would be lovely to see an art/crafting collaboration that gets sent to several RUclips mudlarkers and a series done. Each person could add history into a beautiful art piece. Kate and Fleur y’all could start it😎

Such an inspiration, all the fine craftsmanship in items in the doll house. Can you make a miniature of the little girl who owned the house to put in the house? Crafting a mud pie complete with the mud-walking shoes on the feet would be adorable gift! Love the shards of pottery. Be safe on the beach, and now in the mud. The tinkling of the bell from one of the boats on the mudflat was charming as well as the sound of the wind.😊

I watched you on the mudpies video kate, you came across very shy and i really felt for you, i dare say being in lockdown so long probably didnt help, keep youre chin up girl, you are a wonderful young lady and you showed your inner bravery by going on the mud. Be strong, you can achieve anything.
We are actually both a bit shy but I am a little less so with age. Kate was quite comfortable with the Mudpies though, as they are really lovely people. The mud v beach was all Kate`s idea and she was telling us shots she wanted, etc. She may have been a bit nervous about the mud after her bad experience :) but thank you for your kind words as always Paddy!

I would just LOVE to see you guys, (Kit and Caboodlers), Josie and Andy,(Mudpies), Gail and Alex ( Northern Mudlarks), Simon Bourne (Si-Finds), Nicola White ( Tideline Art) , Adam Gates, Tom Burleigh, Caroline and Phil ( Lets go with the Johnsons) and also the Manchester Midlands and the South coast Midlands do a super collaboration, where you all travel to each others favorite beaches, bottle dumps, fields, islands, etc. You could make it a super series! I would eagerly watch EVERY single episode!

My mum used to save the knuckle bone from the Sunday lamb roast. if we couldn't get them totally clean we would put them on an ants nest for a couple of weeks, Old times.. Thank you ladies and Oscar for another nice lark. Hope your leg is feeling better.
