  • What has googly eyes and is cleaning up Baltimore’s Inner Harbor? Meet the Trash Wheel Family. Nestled in Baltimore, United States of America, Mr Trash Wheel, Professor Trash Wheel, Captain Trash Wheel, and Gwynnda the Good Wheel of the West (a special for you musical theatre fans out there!) are making river cleanups more efficient.
The semi-autonomous trash interceptor lifts rubbish out of the river onto the conveyor belt using solar power from its solar panels and the river’s current. It pulls hundreds of tons of trash out of the water each year, including plastic waste, and heavier items like mattresses and tires.
Its containment booms not only help capture trash floating beneath the surface, but it can also stop oil slicks from polluting the water.
Mr Trash Wheel hopes to be more circular in future, but for now the trash collected is incinerated and used to generate electricity.

Um, hello! If people wouldn't throw garbage into the rivers, this wouldn't happen!
