The old man who found Goku on Earth was actually Grandpa Gohan, a former student of Master Roshi who told Goku to train under him before Goku unknowingly killed him when going Great Ape for the first time. He’s also who Goku named his son Gohan after!
He killed Grandpa gohan on his second transformation. Goku knew he should not go outside when its fullmoon. So Gohan must seen his first transformation and survived it.

A funny thing or two about Bardock's theme:
Its called "Solid State Scouter" and in japanese the lyrics are power levels that his scouter captured, all the guys that he fought in the movie.
Plus, the last number we hear before the theme become silent is 530.000, wich is Freeza first form power level, meaning that Bardock's life ended short after meeting him

For additional context, Bardocks power level was stated in a guide to be 10,000 which was considered to be high enough to threaten King Vegeta's right to the throne. However he's also a "low-class" warrior, which means he probably wasn't any higher than 1k by the time he was a kid.
By the time of this movie, Bardock is the strongest saiyan.

Maybe he meant in potencial or simply the dub changing the dialogue like when kibito shin said kid bu was tronger than super buu (wich by a huge mile he was not).

However I don't believe that a child Vegeta could best Bardock in a fight even if he did have 1 or 2 thousand more power level. Bardocks experience would likely make him the winner, thus thats why I view him as the "strongest".

The Saiyan army programmed Goku's pod to head to earth. With the intention of him going into the ape form and rampaging until he wiped out most of the population so the Saiyan's could conquer earth in frieza's name. But some time after grandpa Gohan found him at the end of the bardock Goku bumped his head and became a much less aggressive child. Which is how he became the kind hearted Saiyan we all know of today z

The man at the end wasn't Master Roshi, it was Grandpa Gohan from OG DB. Gohan was a student of Roshi who found and trained Goku as a child, and Goku eventually found his way to Roshi after.
I don't care if this Bardock is canon or not.I like this version wayyyy better than the one in Super.

At the end, that's not Master Roshi, that is Grandpa Gohan he was trained by Master Roshi as well. If you want a fun bit of lore, look up on the story of the Chinese legend "The Black Myth Wo Kong" that is who Goku is based off of, and you can draw a lot of parallels between the two. Dragon Ball itself is heavily based on a story involving Wo Kong namely "journey to the west" give this info a look you might like it.

One of the things I can say is definitely better about DBS bardock.
Dbz bardock not giving a crap about his kids and the movie not even mentioning raditz is just worse even if he is badass in the movie.

Currently story developments in the DB Super manga have sort recon how much he cared for them both as he might have offhandly and unknowingly giving both of them major plot armor with a loophole lol

@@madmoai its been stated by Toriyama and tested independently using power levels that tthere isnt a consistent multiplier for supersaiyan or any form really. So the multiplier, especially for a saiyans first ssj transformation, because it is an intense transformation and difficult to control, it could be 50× but it could also be much higher, up to 150× depending on the demeanor of the saiyan. The demeanor effects the S cell quantity and that determines ability to transform and also power.

Bardock is my favorite character to this day. I was so excited when I found out he was playable in Budokai 3. And when he was announced for DBFZ I was hyped.
In DBS Broly, it was indeed Bardock who orkestrated Goku's journey to Earth. This special came years before that, though, and prior to the retcon to Goku's origin story, he was sent away on a mission. In this version of events, Bardock had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Goku's departure. He was deployed on an assignment to perge the Earth of its inhabitants so it could be sold to another alien race. Being given this assignment saved Goku's life, because it meant that when Planet Vegeta went boom, he was far away and out of danger. Goku would have carried out his task, but as a small child, he took a really bad fall and suffered serious head trauma that caused him to forget about everything and become the happy-go-lucky kid we first met in the original Dragon Ball. I think he still falls and hits his head in the revised version of events... the only things that changed were the origins of his parents and the circumstances that lead up to his being on Earth.
This movie deserves a 10 out of 10 Stars it's so good the ending kind of made me tear up a little 😢
There’s a lot of details that are awesome to learn about Bardock, but I gotta say, it’s weird to see this specific dub version because of how weird they did some translations. 😆 Also fun fact, despite being a low-class Saiyan, his power level was higher than most Saiyans in history, including the elite. I forget the number, but I think it was anywhere from 10,000-20,000 or slightly lower, which was stronger than Vegeta when he first came to Earth I think if it’s at the upper half (which is a huge deal). Even if it’s 10,000 in this special, that’s close to surpassing KING Vegeta in power. But Bardock is a real one, challenging an entire army and Frieza alone.
Bardock was at 10,000, to parallel Goku's power of roughly 8,000 when he first fought Vegeta at 18,000.
So Bardock's Moves:
Tyrant Lancer
Sayian Spirit
Rebellion Spear
Etc.
Something about them has to deal with Conquering.
something to keep in mind is that while the events of the Bardock special are tragic Bardock and the Saiyans kinda got what was coming to them I mean right at the beginning Bardock and his crew were literally genociding a planet for frieza with zero remorse
He did kinda redeem himself at the end with "This is for all the people we killed in your name!"
In answer to your question: Originally in the TV special Goku was sent to Earth to conquer it. But in the canon, it's revealed Bardock was the one to send Goku away to save his life. There is a retelling of this in Dragon Ball Super Broly that might be worth reacting to. You'll get to see Gine Goku's mother.
And yes Bardock is the GOAT.
Pre retcon, Goku was sent to earth to destroy but now it looks like Toriyama was watching too much superman to care about originality

Everybody already said that's Grandpa Gohan. He was Roshi's Student.
This movie is HALF canon now. Bardock's personality changed to be slightly less savage, and care more about Goku. In the new canon, he and Goku's mom sent him to Earth, in this movie, anybody could have done it, because lower level Saiyans are sent out to weak planets to destroy. That's just a normal thing they do, so the fact that Goku was sent out before Frieza's attack is a matter of pure coincidence and luck.
Bardock DOES go Super Saiyan... but the movie is not worth it. Don't bother, it's even less canon than the noncanon work. It's literally negative canon, and that's not even a fan idea.
Yeah he is still savage but he changed his personality the moment Goku was born and when Gine talk to him about his son
there's Bardock's OVA, which is a direct continuation of that one, you should watch it very well too.

In the Dbz Story it was said that the saiyans send goku to earth so he can conquer it when he is grown and he was actually evil until he fell down a cliff and hit his head so hard that he turned good but in the dbs broly movie bardock send goku to earth because he had a feeling that planet vegeta will be destroyed and bardock wanted to save him. Which is the true Story now idk, but its confirmed that the movie is canon so yeee.
Fun fact: this movie is technically non-canon. The studio made the movies separate from Akira Toriyama. When he saw this one, he liked it so much that he adopted Bardock's story almost exactly in the Super Broly movie.

Now you have to watch bardock special, where he goes to the past and gets his revenge. It gives us an idea of how the ssj legend began

As for how Goku escaped, his mother Gine and Bardock canonically sent him off out of worry. Yep that Bardock is based on the Dragon Ball Minus spin-off that Toriyama wrote. That spin-off was about his version of Bardock and it became canon afterwards

The pod Goku arrived in was programmed to go to earth. Goku was sent to destroy earth originally. In the original bardock movie you’ll also see baby broly who was annoyed by Goku’s crying.
While the seeing the future part is non canon, most of the events in the special happened in canon, Bardock’s crew getting killed by Dodoria’s gang, Bardock’s last stand and ofc Goku getting sent to Earth.
Bardock's character is completely different though.

When you do get to the other DBZ movies, could you watch them in both of their soundtracks? I love coolers' revenge American soundtrack along with lord slugs and Broly second coming in their American tracks but I understand those who like the original Japanese score. if you could do both for all the movies that would be very much appreciated. Nathan Johnson and mark Menza and the Japanese composers both have great music and the heavy metal always made the movies feel more impactful at least for me. there are also some ova's and the first dragon ball series movies and the gt movie.
