    I have noticed a lot of similarities between Sikhi & Buddhism.
    Both believe in the concept of Karma. Both are generally peaceful. Both heavily emphasize meditation & ego loss. Both teach Seva (selfless service) and Simran (meditation).
    The main contrast I see is where Buddhism promotes meditative retreats & in certain cases isolation, while Sikhi teaches us to be like the lotus flower that peacefully sits above the water: surrounded by this world, yet unaffected by it. Sikhi also promotes the concept of "Saint Soldier", while it seems to me that Buddhism exclusively focus on the Saintly aspect. The main difference, is as you stated before, that while Buddhism states believing in "God" is not necessary, God is at the centre of Sikhi.

      So does Hinduism , at least the spiritual part of it. I really hate it when these "Hindu" people who only focus on the ritualistic part and not on the philosophy of hinduism.
      Especially "Hindutva" practitioners. They are probably the most closed-minded people I have seen. The totally go against the very ethics of the Sanatana Dharma.

      People who are advocating this, they should know that in indian army there are two regiments one is Sikh Regiment and other one is Sikh light infantry. In Sikh Regiment majority recruitment or intake is done from Jat Sikh and Mazabhi and Valmiki Or balmiki Sikh goes in Sikh light infantry. Though they all belong to same community but there is no unity among them. After independence these two regiment never came align while conducting any counter-terror operations. Even during Indira Gandhi regime this two regiment had two opposite stance, one was supporting Gandhi's action against khalistani and one was totally against it. Gurus never discriminated that's true but history says that whenever upper caste desperately needed help they beg the low caste, once the objective is accomplished upper caste has always shown their real fangs, and buried low caste beneath. This history is very much true that Mazabhi and valmiki Sikh fought for Gobind singh and Ranjith singh but never got their due. So, that's the reason why I'm not a Sikh.

    I have watched a few of these video now and really like the concepts of Sikh. I have been a Buddhist for a few years now and find many similarities between Buddhism and Sikhism, and can feel the same compassion from this speaker as I get from Buddhist monks. Just on the notion of God from a Buddhist perspective. Buddha did not talk much about God but his words in the grand scheme of things imply that there is no ultimate creator but he didn't dismiss God/Gods as he had mentioned them quite often and also stated that even Gods live in a state of non permanence and have suffering to a certain degree. What Buddha taught was the Dharma which can be translated into the "highest truth" . To say that God exists would be a wrong view and to also say God does not exist would also be a wrong view. What I feel the Sikhs concept of God is could be similar to that of what the Dharma is in Buddhism. Personally I dont believe there is an ultimate creator, or self creator that created all that is being. Whether you call it becoming one with God or attaining Nibbana I think its has one of the same meaning.

      Paul Placucci There are a lot of similarities between Sikhi and Buddhas teachings, namely meditation, equipoise, control of actions, words and thoughts, nirvana, but the main difference is that we do believe in an all powerful creator whom we worship and love through chanting His Name. Its quite the main part of Sikhi. Buddhism is similar to the atheistic philosophy of Samkhya, or even some forms of Yoga which dont make reference to the Divine, only to the individual Soul. Sikhi differs from these because we try to experience the love of God through his Name. TBH, I never understood how anyone can believe in re-incarnation, meditation, nirvaana and still think that it all happened by accident without a Divine creator. The love that we feel when meditating, the bliss, all of these are the qualities of God.

    • @Prissyoh
      @Prissyoh 8 лет назад

      Shivam Chopra Yes this is true. We are re-incarnated instantly at the point of death and what we get born into will be a reflection of our karma at the point of death.

      Paul Placucci but without god making you go into your next life based on your thoughts, words, deeds how can you believe as buddists that you get placed into a next life without any sort of system in place for that. Everything needs a system for it to flow smoothly

      I'm a Thai Buddhist. In my opinion, God in Buddhism is the Dhamma(Dharma) = the highest truth, Nirvana, Sunyata, Buddha nature. Buddhists don't believe in Personal God but believe in the God that mean the "Principle of the Universe".

    “Buddhism has this concept that everything/everyone is your mother at one point/at once”. What?! This is nowhere in Buddhism, not in the Theravada anyway. I’m sorry, “Hinayana” as she calls it, insultingly. “You can be a Sikh and be a Buddhist”, nonsense. Westernized, New Age nonsense.

    • @RocketVet
      @RocketVet 3 года назад +3

      That's a meditative practice/tool from the Shambala tradition. It does exist but it's not a basic concept of Buddhism - however - with reincarnation it is completely possible to encounter someone that was once the mother of you in a past life. Why wouldn't it be? I do agree, Hinayana (Lesser Vehicle for anyone wondering) is not the best choice of word. Sikh AND Buddhist? Not both initiated - BUT you can be one or the other and learn from the other for sure.

      You people should understand that 'Hinduism' refers to all religions of Indus Valley (East of the river Sindh). Buddha and Guru Nanak were both born as Hindus but changed the practises of Hinduism. To say they're not offshoots is just denial- Christians and Muslims also deny their common roots in Judaism (Muslims also believe in Jesus).
