It's wild that I was looking to see if Nectar 4 existed yesterday, while doing some mixing, Now today, while continuing my search, I actually caught this video dropping in the first couple of hours. I'm looking forward to trying this out!
It's spooky. Yesterday I worked on a new mix and tried to produce matching harmony voices to my vocals. Was never satisfied and now this!!! I love you guys
5:24 The Backer Module demo is VERY misleading here. People are thinking those backing harmony lines are being generated by Nectar, but they aren’t. The harmonies are pre-recorded vocal tracks which have just had their tonality/timbre changed by these voice modifiers, but to be clear, Nectar did not auto-generate backing harmonies with a different melody and varying intervals from a single source track. Also, I don’t think there is any way to do this without running multiple instances of Nectar on the separate tracks. They could’ve made this a lot less misleading if they’d included the original harmony tracks in the “Before” example.
You are correct. I tested the Backer module in my DAW recently and the sound quality wasn't NEARLY as close as the one shown in this demo. The human factor is showing but the sound is still to artificial. The difference is actually audible by the timing difference with the s and t sounds by the vocalist. AI might be able to delay them, but as far as I know, Backer AI does not have a lookahead function, I mean just imagine the stress on your CPU having to handle both lookahead and artificial voice creation at the same time
Not true at all. It's not that complicated, After you put nectar on the main vocal and ran the assistant, Just duplicate the track like 4 times or how many layers of harmony you want, Jusy flick the backer switch and pick the voices. Not misleading at all. Loving every bit of Nectar 4. Now producers can focus on the music and not the nerdy stuff. Man i love Izotope.
@@hey.itsathul Yes, what I said is true, and you missed the point. When most people heard this demo, they heard those harmonized voices (which are singing different melodies from the main vocal) and thought that the backer module was creating different voices AND auto-harmonizing with the main vocal. They way iZotope created this video gives that illusion, because the before/after happens right as all those harmonies are added to the mix. All you have to do is read the comments on their original release videos to see how many people were misled. BUT -- those are pre-recorded harmonies. The only thing the backer module is doing is transforming their formants/timbre to make them sound like a different person. The backer module *can not* automatically create different melodies.
@@ryansexton2499 Unfortunately true, this video is very misleading there and I see many people mislead in the comments, It makes it appear like a revolutionary realistic instant harmony that knows precisely where to go musically, when in actuality they're bringing in real harmonies as well at the exact moment it's unbypassed to mislead you and cover the real effect. In reality it sounds typically artificial and you'd be better off pitching and managing formants yourself. it might be usable for fast demoes or maybe even amateur producers who don't want to spend much time working
@@LoftyAssertionsI think they’re running multiple instances of Nectar, with each one on a pre-recorded harmony track. The only thing Nectar is doing is changing the sound of the voices on those harmony tracks so it sounds like different people instead of harmonizing with yourself. But regardless, yeah, very misleading. It doesn’t automatically generate new voices with auto-harmonization.
@@ryansexton2499The recent Nectar 4 video by Geoff revealed how the one singer layered her own vocals in that scale (so..alto, tenor, etc.) and THEN used the backer module to make it sound like different people. You still have to layer the vocal track yourself.
it's what I was looking forward too the most too but it's pretty different from what this video shows. You can't layer them like they do and in isolation it basically sounds like a formant shifter with some distortion (which is probably why the section immediately following the backer demo in the video shows it "creatively destroying" ad libs)
This demo is very misleading. You’re hearing multiple instances of Nectar on separate tracks with pre-recorded harmony. All Nectar is doing is changing the sound of those voices so it doesn’t sound like the person is harmonizing with themself. Nectar does not create vocal harmonies like you’re hearing in this video on its own - it can do fixed intervals and that’s it.

It would be if it actually worked the way this video makes it appear, but that part of the demo is super misleading. The “after” demo is bringing in 3 other pre-recorded harmony tracks. The only thing Nectar is doing is changing the sound of the voices on those harmony tracks, but it is NOT building the different melodies you hear in the harmony. That was sung into the original tracks. They should’ve included those other unmodified harmony tracks in the “before” example. The way it’s being presented is disappointingly deceptive.
@@TheSoundChronicles Yeah, same. I generally like Izotope’s products and already have this upgrade, but I hope this isn’t a sign of new marketing tactics now that Native Instruments owns them.

In this video they're bringing in real harmonies as well at the exact moment it's unbypassed to mislead you and cover the real effect. It's simply another pitch and formant shifter with tone presets with a dry/wet in the form of the "blend" knob. It has a good place in electronic music for amateur producers working fast wanting to strangle the vocal, not able to get multiple takes from the singer or not worrying about getting natural double+ tracks, it's strange they chose a natural choral acappella, it's not usable for that whatsoever and is too artificial sounding for a professional mix.
Yes I thought the choral accappella was a strange choice as well.. it didn’t show of the module very well ,very artificial ,like you said better suited for a particular genre of vocal, maybe modern EDM
