  • In this video we got caught in a thunderstorm for the first time while testing out our new tents, the OEX Bobcat and the Wild Country Blizzard 2. An absolute rollercoaster of a camp featuring thunder, lightning, torrential rain and an anxiety fueled night!
We camped in The Lake District's Great Langdale, at a spot up near the popular Stickle Tarn to revisit the place where we first got the bug for this amazing hobby all those years ago.
Remember to stay safe out there, especially in adverse weather. Since this trip we have expanded our knowledge on thunderstorms and recommend you listen to this insightful podcast with has some vital tips for if you're ever caught out: backpackinglight.com/episode-...

Imagine being caught out in it hiking, that's why an emergency bothy or some sort of shelter is a must once you're above the treeline. Got caught in a whiteout in Scotland as 16 year old many years ago, it came out of nowhere, it's a lesson you won't forget.

Last time I camped the lakes I was in a £20 argos tent. Site camping out at Brothers Water in Summer 2016.
Plenty on the site with top gear, even acar with a top box camp setup.
4am and a massive thunderstorm hit. Everyone sh#t themselves, packed up in the rain and scarpered off.
Come the morning once the rain had cleaered there were 3 of us on site, the others in fairly decent tents and looking at me in my £20 job like "WTF?😶" 😂
    Never surrender! 😁
Nothing like a bit of thunder in the lakes!

Nostalgic spot for myself too lads! Had some fantastic camps at stickle tarn, probably the best camp me for me and the lads was after polishing off the rest of the whiskey we got fully blazed on a rock watching the clouds descend upon the water. Nice to see you lads still had a good time, despite it pelting it down all night. Stay hard fellas.

Well done for sticking in lads!
We had a night like that recently, camping at Llyn Cwm Llwch in the Brecon Beacons 🙈
The “where to pitch the tent” question is a tough one, depending on many variables… 🤔

Another great clip, always enjoy the story and the details. I sold my helm 2 partly because the access is quite restricted for the larger gentleman. Watching you struggle to get out of the blizzard means it's off my list! Just an FYI with the Bobcat, it works best with your feet into the wind. When placed side first into it it's not as aerodynamic.

When I was on Pen Y Fan and it was windy, I was on the top but I got myself into a little dip (only about 6-8 inches deep but about 15x10 feet) which partially shielded me from the wind.

Haha mate the story with the msr Hubba Hubba’s is so true! I had a trusty 3 tonne vango for my first tent until I saw someone with a lightweight tent out on the fells.

Great video lads. As a ex infantry soldier/seasoned wild camper age 60, my all year round tent is the oex bobcat. Firstly, its quick to put up on adverse weather as can pitch fly, inner together .Next as im older, the entrance is huge, easier to get in ,compared to the ground hugging vango banshee type tents. Also i can sit up in it and have massive awesome views In it. I used on 630mile South west coast path ,in all weathers, incl sea winds, gales and it was a true bomb proof tank of a tent, whilst i have witnessed more expensive tents struggle in those conditions.Do you still use the Bobcat,is it still serving you well ?
