Although we had no TV, no Internet, no computer and a phone with a party line we were happy and busy spending time roaming the woods, fishing, listening to Grandma's ghost stories and eating home cooked meals . Thanks Donnie!

I can relate to a lot of what you talk about. I am born and raised in the Ozark Mountains-Arkansas. I have lived on the farm that I grew up on my whole life with the exception of a total of 4 years. I raised my family here and this is home, in my blood. Vacation Bible School was one of the highlights of my summers along with Youth camp. Going to church every time the doors where open, Sunday school, Wednesday nights, and revivals. Thank you Mr. Donnie. Brought back many memories. I went to a one room school house for my first 3 years. Learned much more than the bigger schools. We had a water pump out front and 2 toilets out back. Yep,fancy.. boys and girls.. lol.
I hunted and fished with my brothers and Dad.
My grandfather’s were all dead when I was little, lost all grandmothers by the time I was 17. Had a “surrogate” couple that babysat me and they were like grandparents.
Like you,I learned so much from family and family friends. I eventually went to college (the only one of 6 kids) but I was in my early 30’s before I went. Wanted to be a nurse and in 1986 accomplished that goal with RN after my name.
I am still a country kid at heart, live in the country with my dogs, chickens and a couple of ducks.
Retired and old now,but still remember my childhood very fondly.

I grew up in a large family, I'm the 4th of 6 girls no boys . My mother used a old black pot filled with water, that we kids carried from the spring ,she boiled our dirty clothes and scrubbed our clothes on a scrub board ,until her hands were red and swollen.
I remember time's when my grandmother would come and stay with us for awhile . People use to take care of their elders, no nursing homes needed.
Donnie ,this video was a blessing to me ,a walk down memory lane on my 71st birthday . Knowing christ as savior and Lord is the most important thing in this life and the promise of heaven when we leave this old world behind.

My parents were both raised on dairy farms. Many similarities. I grew up in town, never witnessed "butchering" and had electricity. Still there were chores, Weeding the garden and flowerbeds, laundry day, ironing and when got older, helping Dad with projects. Sunday was going to Church and visiting the grandparents of one side or the other. Sassing and disrespect were not tolerated. 2 weeks out of every Summer were spent VBS. Wish would have payed better attention at family reunions. Just my Dad's sister, a sister-in-law and a couple of his cousins is all that remains of that generation. Wish everyone.was raised like we were.... Donnie, another great episode! Like talking about old times over coffee with a friend. LOVED IT!! 👏👏👏 Have a blessed day, mine is for having watched this...

Thank you Brother Donnie for reminding us of wonderful times gone by. I married into a family much like your own but they were from the mountains of Virginia. They were farmers and lived close to the Lord and the land. The women took care of their men and their children and while there wasn’t a lot of store bought stuff, no one ever went hungry. My husband taught me to track and hunt deer, squirrel, rabbit even an occasional groundhog. He has gone on to be with the Lord but I know we will meet again. Thank you for a heartwarming video. See you on the other side.

They're a precious part of our history, and sadly they are slipping away.
I think most baby boomers like us, were raised this way, with these values...
even if you lived in the city.
Now, the younger generations know nothing of these values, except a rare few...
I pray this country can turn around, and come back to this values, that made this land strong.

This is sad and it breaks my heart even though it was 40-something years ago... We grew up with a deer as a pet because the mom had been killed. I don't know who it was that killed the mother, it could have even been one of my brothers or uncles. Either way we ended up with a baby Doe. We had it for years and somebody was riding by on the dirt road that we lived on and they shot the deer and everybody knew that deer was our pet because everybody knew everybody! We never found out who did it but that doe did not deserve to be shot! it was our pet and it was really a human trapped in a Doe's body!!! People are just cruel hearted!!! We had our suspicions but never knew for a fact. They couldn't have been out hunting because they drove by our house, and it's miles and miles between houses on hundreds of acres of land. The doe was standing at our door for us to let her in because the doe really thought it was a human! But somebody shot her! Just out of pure meanness!!!! That was almost fifty years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday! Things sure ain't like they used to be!

Thanks again, Donnie, for sharing your memories. I never get tired of hearing them. I remember those days too, the good and the bad. I didn't grow up on a farm or in the mountains, but I was raised for the most part in the country and taught the same values. Love God✝️, your family, your country, respect your elders and people in authority.or you'd get a spanking. Saying the Pledge to the flag 🇺🇸and singing My County tis' of Thee to start off the morning at school. I couldnt wait to be able to drive my daddy's riding lawnmower or his truck and get my first shotgun and go huntin'' with him PRECIOUS MEMORIES!!! This country would be in much better shape if more folks these days were raised the same way that you and I were back then.

(Sighing wistfully) I was brought up mostly by my grandparents - and whatever good is in me came from what I learned from them. Brought back a few tears remembering the "olden days." We were raised the same way you were, Mr. Laws - I guess the term for our upbringing would be "old school" Thank you so much for your channel, Mr. Laws. May God bless you and your family - I appreciate you so very much - we can't let the stories of the past to die a silent death. To tell and retell the history of the family is of utmost importance, seeing the world that we live in now - makes it an even more urgent thing to do. Besides, in retelling the stories, we bring those who have passed on close to us, comforting our memories, and even if only for a little while, it is like they are still on the porch, rocking and/or swinging on the porch swing. Again, my deepest appreciation is being sent your way - thank you so very, very much. 🤗🥰💖💖💖

I look forward every week to my day off and watching your teachings on Friday mornings. This one here definitely is top tier. I'm from up north (Western PA) which we have backwoods traits too but in my opinion we're just a generic version of the southern people and their ways. The southern people have great heart and family beliefs in which they know how to keep traditions going from generation to generation. Once again, that's my opinion. Definitely would've been a honor to been southern born. Take care Donnie/family and be safe. I'll see you next Friday morning.

This share-cropper's son saw the backs of mules, not tractors, but a good mule was worth more than its weight in money, and they all had personalities of their own, didn't they? Fascinating animals! Yes sir, we said the Lords prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance facing the flag every morning. If a teacher tried that now a days they would probably get arrested. So proud to hear your testimony. I always taught my sons that a mans only as good as his word. You look a man in the eye and give him a good firm handshake. That was a good as any written contract they is. Even though there are several miles separating us our raising is nearly the same. My grandma had an old wood burning cook stove and we lived next door to her. I can remember going to her house to catch the school bus and have breakfast while I waited. She would already have cooked her and my aunt’s breakfast. She always had biscuits and sausage cooked. Grandma would crumble the sausage up and beat up a couple eggs with the sausage, now that was some fine eating right there! Thanks for the memories ❤😊

Many lessons that I was taught as a child, I raised my children the same way. It's a shame that so much of that good teaching we received back in those days seems to be gone now. Some of the dearest folks I have known didn't have a college education. But what they had in their hearts, no college education could ever hold a candle to. Donnie this so brings me back, though I was raised in NYC...church on Sunday, and most importantly, family dinners. When we let family dinners go away, we began a decline as a society. Also, we baby boomers got to see science fiction become science fact. Something magical about that. Never used an adults first name unless they gave you permission. Saving up for what you wanted - now THAT is a lost art and the cause of economic collapse too.....there was right and wrong - not what you "identified" with......how did we let the values of so many generations get away?

Those are the golden memories of the past that effected most of our childhood coming up, growing up to have respect for our elders, manners, morals and the love of family and country is lost these days it's very sad. Some of the best learning about all aspects of life like work ethics, hunting, fishing and just the basics of survival in this world can be learned by those older folks that have the knowledge of things that you could never learn in a formal school education, their knowledge is endless on many things. School is very important for any child but the learning we get from the elders is also very special. Nice Video Donnie be safe my friend , God Bless

Great video, and very true in the full range of the Appalachians, from Alabama to Maine, same set of mountains, just given different names for different regions...the God fearing/loving folks held the same values throughout, love your neighbor as you love your family, do unto others as you would have done unto you, be self sufficient and supporting of those in distress.

I'm glad there is another part of the country, where home always calls you back. I'm from Montana and everyone tells me I'm crazy, when I say home is calling me back.
