I simply say, "The pain I'm having is right here." It is up to the doctor to pay attention. But, I'll say that as a CDI, I don't have many doctors who don't pay attention. When you have two Deaf people in the room, the dynamics change dramatically, in favor of the Deaf consumer.

Often I am voicing for a long description and use words to describe the location "upper right abdomen"..."left shoulder"..."side of my neck"..."both knees" but sometimes voicing something about "right here"..etc... gets the medical person to look at patient. I also voice "right here" and if I'm getting facial+body language that seems to emphasize they want them to look, then I add "let me show you".
