He was the 11th drummer to be voted into Modern Drummer's hall of fame (Bonham, Moon, and Peart were 3rd, 4th, and 5th, respectively), one year before Bill Bruford, so I wouldn't say he didn't get much credit or fanfare. One prog drummer whom I feel deserves way more attention is Barriemore Barlow.
I'm a guitar and Bass player so I'm no expert on drummers but I kinda agree but bill bruford and Allen White and that guy from Tool were definitely in his league they all blow my mind and I guess the guy from rush is awful good himself

Saw Carl Palmer mant times with ELP. But, I really loved seeing him a few years ago in New York at the site of the old “woodstock” festival. Where he not only played with “the crazy world of arthur brown” but also played with “asia”. Also got to see “yes” perform at same show. What a concert it was. Amazing night. A lot of talent was up on that stage.
Before the great Neil Peart, with all respect to him, there was Carl Palmer who's playing and innovations on the drums is one of the founders of Progressive Rock with ELP ! Rock music wouldn't be the same without Carl Palmer.
Excellent. Carl is one of the greats. He played drums with "The Crazy World of Arthur Brown" before ELP. I've seen ELP several times over the years, starting in 1974 in New Mexico. Thanks for posting this great piece of musical history.
Bonjour, j'ai vu E. L. P à Paris dans les années 73 /74 avec un super solo de Karl sur une immense batterie tournante, tu en prends plein les yeux et les oreilles, monument 🙏
First time seeing this...I've been on YT since O6 and an ELP freak...Just shows to go ya, that there is SO MUCH video on youtube, that you will never see..

Without doubts, Carl Palmer was the greatest drummer of all between 1970 and 1975, an innovator of percussion, a genius in his early 20s, who did things no one else did. I also love his drumming with Asia, as well as in the 90s with ELP comeback; but today, and after seeing many videos of the current shows, he is not among my faves anymore. Of course he deserves recognition for all he has done, but I don't think he's up to the task today; he only seems to show that at 74 still can play as he were 20. Nah, sorry, don't like him today, I stood with the good old Palmer of the 70s and 90s with ELP and 80s with Asia. It's just my personal opinion.
This is the Carl Palmer I liked. Wonderful, brilliant, creative. My favourite Carl Palmer goes through 1970-77 and the early Asia records. And despite my all-time favourite has always been Cozy Powell, Carl was was amazing. I loved his brilliancy and innovation. But halfway the 90s I felt he was not the same. No offense, but IMHO, he started to decline, he became repetitive and monotonous, sometimes sloppy, maybe focusing more on his solos, and the creativity was gone. Today, I don't like him, but I do admire and respect him for these things, because he was an innovator of percussion. At 20-something, he was a genius. Today, in my eyes, he is an average drummer. Just my thoughts.
I am the unwelcome back friend, I knew him for 3 years in the 70's and am in the Welcome Back video and Manticore film with him, but he recently told me he doesn't remember the 70's. he just used me back then because he's gay and needed to cover it up. His current partner Katie is a cover for him too. I believe his girlfriend is Jon Anderson..he won't sue me because what I'm saying is true. So all you guys getting turned on by his drumming better think twice.
Denise O. Yeah,right whatever. So,are you one of those spurned lovers or something?You were probably a side piece or a one-time hit-it-& -quit it.Either way,Carl Palmer is a superstar,you're not.Know your place.
Now, why would someone, say those things with the intent of trying to hurt his rep., even if it was true. Why? Well,w e all know why. Sorry sweetie, doesn't change a damn thing about how we feel about his talent, his persona as a person and an innovator. Move along hag...move along...
He is top tier
Often forgotten
One of my favs.
Grande talento. Un grandissimo batterista rock con un’impostazione jazz. TOP! Per me il più grande di sempre
Carl numero uno nel prog
This Drumkit Collapsed a Stage..Wow.
Still fucking awesome!!
Palmer never got much credit or fanfare, compared to Bonham, Moon, or Peart. He was phenomenal!
Correction: He is phenomenal!
I always thought he received many accolades, & well deserved, too.
Which Is Probably Why The Track: Fanfare For The Common Man Was Written...😃😃Altho He's Far From Being A Common Man...

Moon and Bonham dont compare to Palmer or Bruford. Prog drummers are in other league.
Best drummer for all time in progressive rock

It's not for me to say if Palmer is the best, but he's my personal favorite, Peart second, Bonham third.
The Zach Hill's predecessor
emerson lake and palmer
Vilken trummis mmmmmm
The single pedal bass drum roll was hard to beat... and he hit some other drums as well.
