Okay, that floating homestay is totally cool. I get that's it's rustic, but it's definitely a neat concept and something I'd totally do....be nice if they separate them so you don't hear other people.
It is probably possible, but you will just have to look at the schedule times for the ferry! When we booked the Airbnb the host was super helpful with planning our route, so you could maybe email the host and see if he thinks it’d be possible!

Hi! We are 2 going to Vietnam and want to do those 2 activities, trying to figure out how to do them. Do you think it is possible to do the cruise and then next day rigth afther the cruise take the ferry to Cat ba for the floating home stay ? same day without having to spend the nigth in halong? guys, if you want to leave your "comfort zone" just visit every big city in the US. 🤣 don't have to come extra all the way to Vietnam
