It was really interesting to see how your ideas were organized by using mind maps. I did something similar, but I used a flow chart instead to write the code for a project last year. They're really a good tool to find bottlenecks and workarounds to problems we might encounter down the road, even those we didn't even know existed. And I agree they are "great at breaking down complexity." Thanks for sharing!
I may be pretty late at writing this comment but hopefully, you see it anyways. Really appreciate your effective teachings about mind maps and product design in general. I myself being a year 11 student, doing DT GCSE (or product design examination) requires using mindmaps, mood boards and a "client" opinion about my final design. I am really trying to make my work look as professional as possible, not only a way to get a good grade but also as a career pathway. Do you have any tips on how I can make my work look impressive?
Amazing content - really loved. Amazed by the fact both videos part I and part II have the same length! Please, keep going, its helping me quite a lot.
Sheng, I'm interested in Product Design. Specifically I'm looking to create a website and accompanying mobile application. I have iThoughts, but I can't decide whether I need Sketch, Canva, or Figma. (Or all 3!) What are your thoughts for someone getting started? Is there a video where you directly address your product design workflow in detail? It's worth noting that I can find my way through creating the artifacts needed via graphics design. (I even have a little background in website and iOS swift programming.) Thanks again for your great videos!
This is a more complete look into my design process for my website: ruclips.net/video/ktujrvT9KHM/видео.html. Though it doesn't go much into the high fidelity design because I used Squarespace. During my app product management/design days, I used Sketch (super to easy to pick up btw), but I heard Figma is becoming more popular these days. I would probably learn that tool if I were starting out. It also has mind mapping and collaboration features built in. Canva on the other hand is a graphic design tool that basically replaces Photoshop for most people. So in short, I'd pick up Figma (mind mapping & mockups) + Canva (graphic assets).
@@ShengHuang Super helpful, thanks! I was avoiding Sketch because I read somewhere it was a "designer's design tool" which usually means I get stuck in the weeds of tool complexity, trying to figure out how to use the tool when I really just want to get the rough-in work completed and move forward.
Hi Sheng, I;m still struggling to modify the mind map for different purposes, right now I have a business I would like to explore using this method, do youhave more tips? Thanks for your content!
Hello Sheng, I stumbled upon your channel by chance and I subscribed to follow your tutorials on mindmaping. Today I am studying and I have a lot of difficulty putting my ideas down. I followed your videos which enlighten me a little better on how to pose your ideas from a good questioning, but my basic difficulty is that I am not organized and instead of simplifying, I diverge up to to saturate. I find it difficult to centralize the idea, so my key words once put on paper, I don't know what to do with them because on paper, it's hard to move the elements. I thought about creating a blank template that I can lean on to organize my ideas and pose them, but thinking about this kind of concept without mastering it is hard. Hence my interest in learning mindmapping. It is good that you are on apple environment (mac / ipad?), Because I would like to learn an application (mac / ios) that I bought, to make mindmap / annotation of documents on called "MarginNote 3". It is very complex software that you would love I am sure. But it's a shame, there isn't really a real guide / video tutorial on this application and I would have liked to have had a model of a person who is good at mindmaping and organizing ideas, to inspire me in order to learn and develop myself. Do you know "Margin Note"? Otherwise what could you advise me to present / organize my ideas once asked? Thank you
Hi Olivier, ah yes paper is difficult to move stuff around that's why I use Notability on iPad for freeform hand drawn mind maps. With it I'm able to take mindmap notes during meetings, shrink and move elements, and even audio record so I don't miss anything. While I haven't used MarginNote, it looks like a good app to organize the stuff you're reading. What exactly are you trying to do with mindmaps? Sometimes it's not a matter of the tool, but rather understanding the objectives and then coming up with the right approach and techniques. -S
@@ShengHuang I could say that I am an analytical person and that I love visual aids. I like mindmaps, because I can visually find a logical path clearly, without having to rest the questions mentally each time. And since I have trouble memorizing a lot of text, I prefer to hang on to a simplified image that summarizes. Which is a challenge for me, because I want to learn to structure, to go to the essential by synthesizing (which is my difficulty). Besides that, I also use LiquidText where I learn to take my notes, but I still have trouble connecting the elements. Thanks for the reply. Have fun in California
Love this! I used to use whiteboards and take photos of them so the suggestion of the digital tool is much appreciated. Also on a side note, be careful at 08:10 when you say a single "dude" - might be a single "gal" ;)
Thank you Sheng, you've really given me a better understanding of how useful this tool is. I noticed that ithoughtsx doesn't have collaboration. Which tool do you recommend for Mind Map collaboration?

It's so good! I watched part1 and this. Thank you.
I’ve never really had the usefulness of mind maps really ‘click’ until now. Keen to see more!
Thank you a hundred times😍

Hahaha thanks for noticing! Quite the coincidence but I liked it too :)
thank you so much....you've cleared all my doubts and confusions.
the step by step growth of your mind maps, from (MVP) to the complexity would be something i would want to see sensei sheng
Noted!

@@ShengHuang i’m coming up with a business plan , thanks a lot!

Thank you so much dude...😢
You're welcome!
I use Mindomo, what do you use to create mind maps?
Hey Kabangu I use iThoughtsX for digital and Notability on iPad for hand drawn maps
What software do you use to build your mind maps?
I used iThoughtsX for this one and just made a review on my favorite iPad app Notability for drawing mind maps by hand
Thank you Sheng, you've really given me a better understanding of how useful this tool is. I noticed that ithoughtsx doesn't have collaboration. Which tool do you recommend for Mind Map collaboration?
Great question Ryan. I'd recommend MindMeister, a cloud/web based tool for that
