The Mooney is a wonderfully capable aircraft. Faster and more efficient than any and all its competitors, turbo or normally aspirated. It's airframe is proven one of the strongest of its competitors. No chute make it easier for a spouse to pick the Cirrus over the Mooney.
Since you made the invitation, i'll go ahead and leave my protest of outrage :p for the base price of this plane, I could buy a fleet of 17 C models at the price I paid for mine. Don't get me wrong, i'd love to have an Ovation, but unless i get promoted to CEO, it's not likely to happen. It's a shame that established manufacturer's like Mooney are not able to offer some more affordable options - these million-dollar price tags on single-engine planes are what is keeping most people out of aviation these days :(
@@afterburner2869 Sorta-kinda, these companies keep going out of business, getting sold off etc. If I had this kinda dough, I'd do a Lancair Mako factory assist quick build and be in the air in 6 months with $200k+ left over.
@@BStrambo Or, if you're like the vast majority of people who buy kit-built aircraft, you will never complete it. It will sit in your garage unfinished for decades. If you do manage to somehow finish it, you have a good chance of killing yourself on the first test flight.
@@davidferris9392 It’s why anything is as expensive as it is, it’s because people will pay it. If the market will bear it, then that’s the price. Mooney doesn’t have to crank these things out in large quantities to make a profit. They make a relative few and charge an exorbitant price, a price they know people will pay and they make huge profits. I guarantee you if nobody bought them, the price would come down. It’s nothing new, it’s how business is done.
Nice airplane, but there’s just something about the layout of the cirrus that is so clean and well organized... not to mention caps...just my opinion though
I,d like to get a 40 year old j for a good price and put it into experimental category. That way i can put affordable modern glass into it and maybe put a io375 in it .
boy, you really get some strange comments. I have an ovation 2, I'm not married to Mooney, but I can find an upgrade for speed and comfort that is better
i cant fathom the value of an aircraft such as this compared to a fully loaded modern vehicle that are worth 35-80k. do you think if these things were massed produced that their costs would drop?
Okay. Why not contrast the latest & "greatest" derivative of Al Mooneys M20 series with some previous examples. I own a 59 A model and all things considered you and the Chicoms can keep the high dollar high fuel burn lead sled and I'll keep my light wing loaded single door original. Come take a test flight. GA is basically a pursuit of personal desires, meaning they cannot be rationally defined, etc. Transportation as a result of fulfilling the more personal dreams of flight often gets it all convoluted. I see you get shown the glass panel, but no slips on short final, no lazy 8's, no chandells. No fun.
Nikolai Novak CAPS is a gimmick: Cirrus equipped the plane with a parachute in lieu of having it go through spin certification, because it won't meet the standards for spin recovery or resistance to spin entry. CAPS isn't an added safety feature, the plane is literally not airworthy without it.

the paint scheme makes the fuselage look like a Comanche.. love the Mooneys..
Thanks Paul, I always smile when I see any of your videos! (Again)
I love my 1968 M20C. I love the new one but unfortunately most of us cant pay the new price. I am going to have to wait 25 years to buy it. : (
Thanks for the great review! Filing my price protest too :)
Enjoyed the video. Lots of great information. Thanks.
Nice straightforward review. Thank you.
They "Jiggered the Tubes Around"? Sir, can we quote you on this? "Jiggered"? The engineers secret is out, you whistle-blower you!
the tail has a somewhat old fashioned look but hey I'm no 'plane maker but it has that really beautiful early production P51 Mustang look.
Love Mooney and retractable, but the numbers aren't there, are they?

ShuRugal Oorus The reason these aircraft are so ridiculously expensive is because people will pay that price. That it.

@@afterburner2869 no. It is because of litigation.

MOONEY OVATION ULTRA the best normally aspirated plane on the planet
Your opinion obviously. I would never consider a Cirrus a competitor of the Mooney, Caps or not.
You can completely re-fit a 20J for 200k. How do you want to spend the remaining 500k?
I wish I was a pilot. I also wish I was retired and living in Florida or Arizona. Maybe I could come up with some other wishes while I'm at it haha
How is the space for people over 6ft tall?
It is not an issue at all. In fact, it is the best for long legged folks in the front seats. Think Corvette.

Stevie J Cirrus hand flying and flight characteristics don't match Mooney
the cirrus cost 200k more

RIP Mooney!
They keep shutting down and then coming back, to the point where if I were a potential buyer I would be reluctant
Considering inflation the price has not changed all that much, of course very few of have had our income keep up with inflation.
China owns Cirrus and several other aviation companies to their benefit Beechcraft was saved during this time.
China owns Continental too.
With the emergency parachute this aeroplane would have been much more competitive

Litigation prevents that.
Too expensive .I would have never allow to be sold to Chinese. Arabs wanted to buy Mercedes Germans said no Mercedes is a German company
What kind of oil would you recommend for the Ovation?
Its Chinese owned??? No thanks.

Unless it’s half the price of the Cirrus, not sure it’s even a competition, not even mentioning CAPS.
