I met Dokken at a cd store in New Jersey in 1997 and Don was really sweet and flirty to me but George wasn't too friendly, they definately hated each other because Don was sitting at one the end of the table while George was sitting at the other end of the table. Don isn't egotistical at all, not while I was talking to him anyway. I remember when I was waiting in line to meet Dokken, Don gave me a really big smile, I was blushing so much at that moment. :D He is a sweet man, i don't care what the haters say about him.
Dokken was really one of the better bands of the 80's. Wrote some great songs, Don could sing with the best of them in his era and Lynch is a legend on the guitar.
I met Don Dokken in 1991 I was almost 17 that year in Tampa Florida.... He was doing his own Solo band then... He was Fabulous .... Real Down To Earth!!
I met Dokken at Minneapolis Int’l. Gracious men! Photos and shaking hands, they gave me time... then I said, “Remenber, Don, before Def Leppard there was you!” Seriously, meant for it to be a major compliment. Don asked his guitarist “what?”, his guitarist repeated what it was that I said. Don nodded his head fast looking out in the distance and stepped into his cab. I’ve been going through that statement over and over.... did I compliment him? Your thoughts.
1:02, "Mr. "Wild Man" Himself, Mick Brown". That's what inspired me to adopt the nickname, "Wild Man" Dean. Dokken is my favorite Heavy Metal band, and it was so cool that they were on "American Bandstand", and Dick Clark got to interview them. Awesome Post!!!!
Wow!! This was much better than I anticipated! Don and George do okay standing right next to each other and you can hardly tell that the 2 fucking hate each other. Mick is such a cool cat and Jeff Pilson is awesome as well!! I'll be rockin with Dokken forever!!
Wow, the picture quality on that, is so crystal clear! It must've been digitally restored. I wish they would leave the musical performances attached to these interviews!😡
I never even considered Dokken to be Heavy Metal. Wasp...yes...Dokken Hard Rock...MElodic ROck...what does it truly matter...If you like it that all that matters, Scorpians could be Heavy Metal but now Hard Rock...they all had those hints of this and that...
I met him in person in 1997 at a music store in NJ He was really nice! everybody says he is a jerk and an egomaniac but he wasn't like that at all when i talked to him, he was really sweet to me :)
I love how he talks about Gladis Night and how long they had been together, and says thats something to look forward to. Weren't you guys listening. Put a side your BS and get back together...
Rich Bischoff They are back! Just in case you haven't heard or read Dokken (original members) has a new song and music video out titled, "Just Another Day" (2018) and it was released yesterday, March 22, 2018. Enjoy Rockin' With Dokken once again.
When Don said they couldn't afford a 32 Track studio yet, he wasn't kidding. In 1985, I was in line to get in at The Troubadour, and Don comes walking up, alone, wearing that fringed sleeved long leather jacket he wore often and in one of the videos. I wasn't exactly new to seeing "celebrities", but I was definitely a Dokken fan. Anyway, he went back and forth along the line a couple times. Then right before my friend and I were at the pay window inside the front entrance, he walks in again and asked if he could get in. They said he wasn't on the list. Dokken was well known enough that someone working the Troubadour would know who he was, but either way, they weren't letting him in. He didn't push or anything. Instead he turns around and asks if we had $5. Yes, he literally didn't have the money to pay to get in. I gave him the $5. He went in. He still owes me $5. 😄😄😄
Don's song writing with George's guitar was a killer combo when they were keeping it balanced. When the latter 80's had over milked the guitar hero thing, it had an unfortunate effect on the band and a lot of bands of the era. The following albums got away from the songs and got more guitar orientated than about the songs, imo. I was a huge Dokken fan from the early 80's and the "Under Lock & Key" album was really some of their best work or my favorite album. I had them all. Everything was just right on it. They did good!
I didn’t know who Dokken was. Went to go see one of my first concerts around 15-16 years old so around 1984. I really went to to see Twisted Sister. Y&T and Dokken opened. Soon as I heard and saw them playing Tooth and Nail I was like holy shit that’s a great band and the guitarist shreds! VH was my fav band and still is but man I love me some Dokken too.
this is great though i wish we could see the lip synced performance too. the video rip is surprisingly a pretty good quality too for the era this came from.
OH my God... Seeing Lynch's hair and realizing thats exactly how my hair was except mine went down to my waist.... I remember it now like it was yesterday.... I finally cut it after I was in an accident and could no longer brush my hair.. I originally grew my hair out because of Elric and StormBringer of Melnebonia .... Being a jazz/R&B fanatic....Don D and the guys were ONE band that I did injoy! Mr. D kinda eschewed the brawny m'tal phenomena! Nice hairsprayer band!! This rulez when Guests like Gladys Knight and Dokken are on the same show....ditto Ray Goodman and Brown and The Romantics! AB/DC was an AMAZING SHOW!!!!!
What's interesting is that the members of Dokken were actually older than most other 80s metal bands, they were already in their 30s when Back for the attack was released in 87
I remember months ago, some dude here in youtube had this 84' dokken bandstand performance live and now its gone. WTF!! I cant find it anyways. Anyone know where i can find this?
Cocaine WAS the shit back then. Ecstasy (MDMA) was also available and popular in the underground then too. Believe it (MDMA) was outlawed that year if I'm correct.
The heavy metal is the name of this kind of music (Dokken) since the beggining of it. Venom etc... are called black metal band (that's why Venom band has a song called like that, or maybe this name is for those bands because of the venom's song... I dunno) but heavy metal is for Dokken etc... that's what I think and it will be like that forever
Yet the internal pressure pried this band apart in less than 3 years. Lynch and Dokken could never work on building trust while getting along, nor sharing success on equal basis. Drug use drove Jeff, Mick, and George into the depths of ambiguity that defied Don's idea of perfection.
do any of the people the people in the audience know who dokken was even? half of the people there I think were into pop rock or that pop bubble gum music.
But it also can be called hardrock of course. Normally, hard rock and heavy metal are the same. The only difference is that heavy metal is the name gived by the american musicians in the 70's/80's for their own hardrock. With typical chords and sounds...
So I don't know what I'm talking about because I have a different opinion than you?Just like you're not shy to voice yours,I have a right to voice mine too.

Don was just the coolest frontman, and had the most badass voice! So soaring and distinct in its sound 🙏
He could actually sing
I love both his speaking and singing voice

Dokken stomped bawlz...best band you never heard of.

Dick Clark was a class act. Respected all of guests and all musicians.
Very much so, guy went from the 50’s into the 2000’s and even after having a stroke he was still there on New Year’s Eve
This is great! Dick Clark was so amazing to so many (then) young bands. Great exposure for a not yet famous DOKKEN.
Thank you so much for posting!
High point of their career so far: "Meeting Gladys Knight and the Pips backstage." Interestingly mature answer from Mick.
He Meant that as a Compliment !!! Gladys Knight and The Pip's, Are Music Royalty !!! One of The Biggest Selling Artist of All Time !!!
Most musicians who find some level of success on the international level have a wide ranging musical taste.
I remember this day 35 years ago. Changed my life! Thank you Don, George, Jeff, & Mick-your music makes The World A Better Place♥

Francisco Geovanny looked like the singer of kajagoogoo. Limahl
@@PACbelltech1 oh yep! A little bit hehe..
George had the best hair of that era.

Same, I had the first 4 albums.
Dokken still rockin’

The band probably grew up on Gladys Night and the Pipps
That’s some mad hair lol. I love it. I wonder what Dick Clark though of the 80’s hair metal bands haha. Miss you man. RIP Dick Clark.
Dick was truly touched by what Mick said!

Dokken was named after the lead singer Don Dokken and he will be in my memories forever and ever since the 1980's
