    That would sound really good running through a Marshall Amp Stack.

    The electric hurdy gurdy distorted sounds like a cross between a monophonic synth and a guitar, very unique and awesome sounding

    Hmm, if you wanted to add more dynamic to the electric one, could you add something akin to a Whammy Bar to it? It would probably have to be just above the keys where it could be pressed with the thumb and run down the length of the key section.

    20 minutes ago I didn’t know what a hurdy gurdy was… Why are more people talking about this? Why are schools not teaching children about it? This is the most glorious metal instrumental I have ever herd.

    Would Lightwave pickups work better using lasers to extract the audio from the strings together with the electronics which would maybe allow MIDI control of Synthesizer.

    Hi Michalina,
    Does an electric hurdy-gurdy necessarily have metal strings?

    • @LordDragox412
      @LordDragox412 2 года назад +5

      No, you can also use folk, pop and neo-medieval strings. /s

    • @PiotrLYRRE
      @PiotrLYRRE Год назад +4

      This particular instrument would work with any strings (synthetic, gut, etc) because it has piezo pickups. However, in MM Instruments we also plan to experiment with our self made electromagnetic pickups in future. And these would work only with steel-core strings.

    Is it a problem of the piezo pickup, or is it the reduced size of the body, that results in the lack of dynamics? If it's the piezo, could the issue be mitigated by integrating a small microphone inside the body?
    I've seen acoustic guitars with a piezo pickup as well as a small microphone inside the body, which can then be blended together.

    • @PiotrLYRRE
      @PiotrLYRRE Год назад +1

      It is mainly due to lack of body resonance and hard and thick top plate. The microphone won't be a solution because the instrument has no enough dynamics acoustically. The solution could be using electromagnetic pickups (which are also planned for this model in future). However, lack of dynamics is not necessarily downside, especially in situations like Michalina described, (dense arrangement+live).

    Can they be used to practice silently with Headphones on? I like to learn how to play but my neighbors would call the police for noise complaint i guess

    • @michalina_malisz
      @michalina_malisz  Год назад +3

      Hi Benjamin, it can be used for this purpose, it will work exactly like an electric guitar. You can plug it into a guitar multieffect or directly into the audio interface of your computer.

  • @cynderstorm

    are there any electric ones that you would recommend to someone whos wants to learn to play a hurdy gurdy?

    • @michalina_malisz
      @michalina_malisz  Год назад +1

      I would say it is best to learn how to play on an acoustic instrument first, to learn about all the intricacies of how the hurdy-gurdy produces sound, etc. However, if the electric gurdy is your only choice (because of your neighbors for example), I would recommend the MM Instruments gurdy :) ancestore.eu/en_US/p/Hurdy-Gurdy-MM-Electric-Custom/115
