Was this an improvised piece? I ask because that "HA!" seemed so spontaneous and authentic that looks like we are watching you realize all the different ways you can use your gurdy preccusively in real-time.
Either way, keep up the good work Guilehem! Please post more music! There is no were near enough gurdy music of this caliber out there. Almost all of it that I can find is folk or folk-metal or something, which I enjoy, but you are one of the few artists I can find who is really modernizing the instrument

@@TheCaptainSplatter There's the Nerdy Gurdy which is both decent and inexpensive. But yeah, otherwwise, hurdy gurdies are complex instruments only made by luthiers, and thus quite expensive.
the best part is hurdy gurdys used to be an instrument for the peasant and those of lower classes (eg poor)

I own the album but I keep coming back to this video because he doesn't just play the song he performs it.
how is this not more of a thing.
It’s basically playing three instruments at once;
- The keys, which are the main melody
-The trumpet string, which is that buzzing, controlled by how hard you crank
-The bass string, which you have to set manually
Most people can usually play one instrument at a time,
It takes a special person (in a good way) to play three.

What’s interesting is that the designs varied ENORMOUSLY throughout the Middle Ages and reflected an organic desire to combine your favorite songs into one convenient instrument. The drawback was that each unique device had to be self taught, with a unique style entirely that person’s own, Which sounds cool at first, but was a pain in the butt for paying customers who wanted one guy to play what another guy did in as similar way as possible and couldn’t because they were too different. The demand for standard designs and musical discipline arose from this, as well as separation into strings, percussion and so on.
metallavery the instruments are not common because they are incredibly expensive to build.. violins and guitars are simple to build and mass-produce so that's what people can afford to play.
Because they cost between $2000 and $8000 USD.
They're expensive is the simple answer. To even get an entry level instrument you're looking at a grand.

The drone strings produce a higher pitched drone if you turn the crank faster. Aside from that, I'm not sure how he varies the drone sound as much as he does.
Previous comment the artist said that he had a pickup on the drone string and fed it through a pitch shifter controlled by a foot pedal.
