@@Suze2233It wasn’t difficult for me to lose my mother - it was extremely easy! Be grateful that you both had mothers who you feel that way about. PS - I feel quite hopeful that I’ll never have to see mine again - I don’t want to end up where she is.
So touching watching you save the bee. Thank God there are still good people out there who care about saving nature and not destroying it. This was very relaxing, and just like we were all sitting in the same room enjoying each other's company. That sewing basket had some really nice things inside. I'm sure they'll be used and appreciated. God bless.
I love that you want to mend things and keep using. I like to do that myself. Wish I lived closer I could teach you to knit a patch right on your sweaters. The woven ones work just as well though. Fleur your knitting skills are great! What a lovely jumper. I don't do color work and I've been knitting for about 20 years. Bravo! I am sure the bee thoroughly appreciated the drink! Have a great week.
Oh I enjoyed the horses been riding since I was 16 years old. Your birthday sweater from your mom is pretty I wish I had learned how to do that. Cant wait to see the garden grow more. Thanks for also sharing some of england with us.❤❤❤
Lovely video,I have one of those weaving looms and they are brilliant, took a while to get the hang of it.i used a plastic comb to push the wool down, makes it much easier . Love the gift you had for the bee,how clever, your jumper is brilliant, love the design, well done.
Looks like you have another kitty. Is Sunny cat OK? ❤️ When I first saw your sweater/jumper in the video I thought it looked hand knitted! Beautiful, and such a treasure that your Mom made it for you! My mother made a dress for me when I was in second grade and instead of treasuring it, I complained that it wasn’t store bought. How I would love to have something she made for me now! She passed away in 2016. Love your vlogs! I look forward to everything you post! Happy birthday Kate! 😃
I have exactely the same workbox. Had it for years and years. It is exciting to look through old stuff. We "saved" everything earlier, because of liittle money. Everything was re-used. Thank you both for the video.
I absolutely love the mending shuttle! I have never seen one before. This was a wonderful video! I hope you do many more! Please be careful and stay safe! ❤❤
Don’t get me wrong - I love the mudlarking and all the little miniatures and dollhouse things. But, this is one of my favorite videos! The darning of the jumpers and going through that vintage sewing chest just makes my old heart so happy!❤Tennessee Nana
I think you all are awesome. It is inspiring to know there are people still who are interested in doing things the old way. There are many ways to continue using things and clothing instead of throwing them away. Kudos to you all .
My sister has exactly the same metal darning tool and I've done a few dreadful repairs on one of my pairs of trousers with it 😂 We also have the same black compost bin that is about 20 years old now... We get really good compost from it and TONNES of worms and wood lice 😂 Such a sweet bumble bee! We had a cold bee the other day too. They just need a rest every now and then this time of year until the sun warms them again.
What a lovely video to watch ladies, the sewing box was a treasure trove of goodies, loved the visible darning and the bumbly bee, that’s what I call them lol, I did the same thing last year, l found it fascinating to watch a bumbly bee drinking, makes it more special when they fly away, tfs x Julie
I sat down and had a sandwich and tea while watching your video. It was just what I needed. So very relaxing and calming. Thanks to you both. Keep them coming. God bless and keep you and your family safe and healthy.
Oh my this was a wonderful video . Everything about it was pure pleasure .Thank you . Love the sewing box I have one just like it and store my sewing treasures in it and thank you for helping the bee❤
Wow gorgeous sweater Kate knit with love for your birthday. Watching the bee drink and fly brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for this peaceful, beautiful video.
I have to say I have never seen someone darn a sweater back to life. It was very interesting and turned out lovely. Both pieces 😊 I enjoyed the planting and harvesting as well. The bee 🐝 was a great save and very touching addition to the vlog. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜
Live on Whidbey Island, WA. We had gorse planted on Cliff sides as a deterrent from invaders in WWII. Now the gorse is considered an invasive species that must be removed and destroyed. My mother cooked dandelion leaves in bacon. A delicious dish that is high in good vitamins. I purchased a gingko, and three other trees that bear berries for the birds last fall. Now that ground is moist and we just have all the Spring flowers, elderberry (red), even the weeping willow has started to bud. Love the beautiful jumper/sweater your mother made for your birthday--a very Happy Birthday. My Aunt Madeline, also my namesake, had a sewing basket. It was fun to see packaging from the 1940-1960 in it. All the pins and needles were rusty as the basket was in her home in FL where the moisture level is high. Be safe out in the weather changes. 😊
Happy Birthday. I am also a Feb. girl. I turned 55 on the 17th. have told your before but I know it's hard to remember when you have soi many comments. I enjoyed the sewing box. Treasure troves. I love visible mending. I did that on a couple of sweaters when I was younger. Thanks for the reminder.
I've just bought wool tapestry yarn to mend my wool sweaters, so this video is just right for me. I haven't darned sweater holes, my grandmother had a darning egg. I have seen small dried gourds used as darning eggs also. Thank you!
Wow!! The sewing box was stuffed with treasures!!! I know some junk journal makers who would love to get their hands on those goodies!!! The silver thimble was amazing !!! So glad you share your adventures with us!🥰🥰🥰😊
I could taste spring watching this lovely post. Its the first day of spring today for me 1st of March. My favourite season. Green and growth. Beautiful. To make do and mend, to a certain point, is in my blood. Its how i was brought up. Seeing you using that strange darning device was fascinating. I'm more used to using a darning mushroom...but haven't used one since i was a teen. I don't ever seem to get holes in jumpers, but do quite a bit of sewing. Its good to see mending going on in this throw away society we seem to have. I do think maybe times are slowly changing. What goes round comes round. Vintage seems very popular. Mending might just become a new trend. 🤔 😊 Awe and to finish on the busy bee's recovery was lovely to see. 🐝 xx
Wow, I dont really know where to start. I love those vlogs with a little bit of everything. 🪡🧵🌲🌳🐛🦋🐈⬛ Luckily, I read comments while watching, so I knew the bumble bee 🐝 was going to be ok. 😘 Going through the sewing box was great. I love the smell of old cotton twine. When I was 13, about 30 years ago 😬, our neighbour died. Her husband gave me all her crafting supplies, including a Russian sewing machine (they originally were from the former German Democratic Republic) and the tiniest crochet hooks and very thin yarn. She used to crochet lace borders around handkerchiefs. I used these needles and the yarn to make dollhouse sized crochet table clothes. Don't think I could still do it today. 🤓
What an extraordinary thing that was saving that bee! Touched my heart deeply..you two are so wise and gentle and just wonderful in every way.And thanks to you,I know know how to repair the holes in my beloved Ravenclaw sweater that sadly got motheaten..im so excited to try! Lovely video.
Hi , Kate and Fleur always love to watch your videos they are so therapeutic, I really enjoy everything you do , but watching you try to dig a hole for the new trees with a cement shovel was painful, get a P.O.box and I will send you a good garden spade...!!! .I will look into being a patron not sure how to do it, love to you, Gail x
Absolutely loved this episode,a nice mixture of fascinating things.Love your make do and mend philosophy. Have to say Fleur really made me giggle when she was filming Kate modeling her jumper and suddenly said " Boobs".
wow! the other day I was lamenting not having a source of sugar for some bees that came out on an unseasonably warm February day. Off to look up “Revive A Bee!” ❤
I learned how to darn socks n such years ago, wasn't my favorite thing but was needed, I have never seen a machine that darns.. interesting! I love your sewing basket and that came in it. One thing I have to go out and look for is dandelion greens. I always make it in bacon dressing that has boiled sliced eggs, mushrooms and chives with bacon or ham or pork sausage. It is my all time spring favorite to make and the tender ones in your garden now are perfect! The chickweed too in your garden can be added to it as well!
This was the most amazing video ever! I hope the beautiful forest is not far from your house. How wonderful it would be to just hang out with you ladies.
I am enthralled with the WW 2 home front both here in the US and in the UK. I just found a similar style vest in a thrift store. It is gray plaid with red stripes as an accent color. I also found a vintage pullover sweater in shades of olive green, a bit of orange and brown.
That took me back watching you look thorugh the sewing box as my nan had one in dark wood mum asked me if I anted it but being very young (my teens) at the time I was'nt interested in it. I now have mums sewing draws which is where I got the lace and ribbons and fancy stuff I sent you. The top two draws are full of different coloured cottons and they work their way down to sewing aids, scissors, embrodery frames and so on. There's loads of bias binding and zips.So is your birthday in February Kate? mine is too on Valentines day. Really enjoyed this video and loved Sunny pawing at the falling snow. Stay safe and warm.💕
This was such a great video, I loved the birthday sweater and the visible mending was so neat. Saving the bee touched my heart, it was wonderful seeing him drink and fly off, it was so touching 💕
I am loving these kind of videos, I have a sewing box like that, mine came empty tho... I hope your fruit trees do well, fruit off the tree tastes so good!
That's a box full of creative potential.....at 10:52 there are two leather coloured buttons with a cross hatched pattern that would make perfect cushions for tiny bar stools....looking forward to your next video...Karl from eastern Canada
Must try darning, I have a few jumpers to have a go at. You both did a great job on yours. Love the jumper Fleur knitted and what a heart lifting thing to see when the little bee had his drink then flew away ❤
My daughter and I love your channels! We live in Florida but our hearts are in England. My great-grandmother immigrated from Lincolnshire. I am home recovering from melanoma skin cancer surgery on my face (third one with more to come) and this episode has calmed and soothed me. Thank you!
It's so nice to see how the bumblebee regains its strength, a little sugar water and you can go back to nature - you can use the dandelion as a medicinal plant, you can make coffee with the root, you have so many medicinal herbs in the garden, benefit you for your health, nice video, thank you🐝
What a wonderful video just what I needed after an awful week breaking my right foot and having to have a very unpleasant and painful procedure at hospital today. So relaxing and peaceful with pleasant and calming content in a war torn and hateful world . Thankyou so much Kate and Fleur . Have a lovely weekend .
What a fantastic sewing box full of many different but unique pieces 💕 I like the repair on your vest and sweater. The beautiful radish sweater and most of all the loving care you gave that bumble bee 🐝 I’ve never seen anything like that. You’re so kind and have a heart of gold 💛 What a lovely way to end this video. Thank you Enjoy your weekend ladies
Hmmm, it seems if you take a large toothed comb and take out every other tooth, you could use that to pull the thread down in the loom. I've never used darning mushrooms, in fact, never heard of them. When I darn socks, I pull them over a tumbler (a pint glass) and rubber band in place and get to weaving my repair. Since I am typing as I watch, Happy Birthday! And that is a very nice jumper. So, you like radishes?!?! I love wild horse radish. They grew wild in a lot behind the house and my mom loved to tell how I would go out in the summer and pull them up, rub the dirt off and eat them. Spicy they were! I have a wild salsify growing here with the yellow flowers and I also make a soup out of the roots. And I eat the dandelion greens along with dock (wild sorrel), plantain, and chicory leaves sauteed with onions and mushrooms as a minced greens medley. Since you have the bumble bees come to your yard, you might want to make a "bee nesting condo" so you will have resident bees for your yard. Easy to do. I have several. And since I tap my maples and make syrup out of it, I feed the bees a "wake up" watered syrup and they love it!
Just loved watching this it's beautiful! My mother was an emborder she has past, but my sister and I have all her sewing threads silk ribbons and so much more including a sewing box just like yours. And saving the bee so wonderful.
Thank you for sharing your Spring with us! I'm on Treaty 6 lands in Western Canada and our high today is -14 with more snow on the way. What a great treasure trove to search through and a lovely demo of how to darn favourite sweaters/jumpers.
Going through the old sewing box brought tears to my eyes because it reminded me so much of my mother...Iam 87 years old now but I still re

Hello Kate and Fleur,

Excellent job on the jumper, Fleur! I love both of your visual mending jobs, too. Oh, and the bee revival at the end was wonderful. 🐝❤
The big bunch of skeins at 11 mins 44 seconds is from a kit for cross stitch, each colour has the correct amount needed for the picture.
