Best advice , be yourself and let the music influence how you feel. Take those emotions and inject them into melodies or whatever comes to mind. Write it or record it.

My all time tip that helps me write amazing songs is the story I tell on each song. Body, Soul, Spirit

Well my approach is hectic and original; I listen to daily conversations at work place and the interesting expressions and social statements make it to my lyrics as they’re permeable and the song memorable

In my opinion the best way to get feedback for your music is simply releasing it and see how people engage with it. Asking individuals is not a great idea, everyone will say something different and you will end up confused.

I am really focusing on more quality time to write my songs. Like you mentioned in Tip #2. Don’t rush things. I really feel that it is very smart to use patience when writing music for the best outcome. Your efforts will really show through in your music.

My tip: I recently purchased the Shure PGA181 microphone and highly recommend it for anyone with a Home Studio. I use it both to record instruments and to record voices. So far, it is the best microphone I have, robust, well built and with great sound.

My best tip is to tell a story. Engage the listener with a journey they can relate to. Build on that story. Have a beginning, a middle, and some kind of resolution. Lastly, keep the listener engaged using different elements of your craft and song structure.

I can relate to getting ideas down when you think of them. I had a job working in a supermarket deli and I'd have to run into the freezer and record when I had a idea, haha! Luckily the staff would cover for me when they saw me go.
Sometimes the beat starts the song and sometimes it's the idea that's running through my head. I don't limit myself in this way and will always switch it up using guitar or keyboard to start creating. I'm the same with genre's and don't stick with one. It's not like I vary widely but it ranges between rock and pop and I find that does start me down a new track with a new song.

I like testing the lyrics out in my DAW after I've written them, not only to the actual song instrumentation but also to other songs' instrumentation at the same BPM. As a rap artist I feel it tightens the groove and leads to more performance ideas.

Coming over from the mailing list!! I'm not new to songwriting but definetly new to setting up my own studio. My question about my own production technique or setup would be how do you get the hang of adding background vocals and where the best spot in a song is to place them.

I like to use a random word generator to find one two three words that I want to drive the flow and then develop a cadence that works with the beats I'm going to use.... The good thing about that random word generator is how it cannot only help you when you have writer's block or don't know where you want to start but if you crank out a list of five random words, you now have a tool to help you work on freestyle ability

Wooow, cool to see tips from such important artists and notice some similarities. Like with John Legend I like to start with the lyric and the theme, and the best verses always come randomly, as if I download that entire project, I usually create personas that facilitate the message I want to convey. I write as much as I can, and then I give it time to think about it, I have everything written down in the notepad, oh and sometimes I write a simple text and then turn it into rhymes, verses and melodies ❤️

I write house music. So usually I start with the chords, or the bass line. After that I make the beats and the melodic, etc. If I don't like the final song, I try to remix it, because sometimes it works. It could be a good way, if you select one of your favorite song and just try to make a similar, but still a different one with your own style. Just follow your emotions and feelings you know the flow... Thats my tips for you... 😉

I like the advice given that we should not limit ourselves and that we need to take advantage of the spontaneous inspiration and track it down. That is what I like do too and I whenever I get the inspiration I record it even on my phone and perfect my idea before I go in a studio .
I also like the advice on collaboration to enhance your diversity in music.Thank u

just remember.. TIP :) before you start a piece of work, make sure you have a fairly strong idea. To begin with.
Either know the idea of the instrumental or at least have some vocal ideas . Or even the Mood and flow can help shape your song

I generally allow the song to lead me on its emotional journey and don't consciously think structure until I've put down my lyrical ideas. Often I don't even try to make lyrical sense and allow the song to virtually build itself. I've been working this way for years and I find that my best music is written this way because it focuses on the emotional aspect rather than the logical and emotions generally are illogical. Structure comes as a result of the emotional journey the song shapes into.

I think mixing it up can be a really good way to generate new ideas - so if you normally write on guitar, try switching to keys, or ukulele or banjo, or even just change your guitar tuning from standard to an open chord or something - the new thing can bring about totally new ideas which helps me craft new ideas :-)
