She had to pull the trigger and put them down, out of their misery. But she loved them and it hurt to do so. That's what it seems to mean to me.
for some reason, I always have an urge to listen to this song, as I'm walking, with the wind dramatically blowing at me. This actually happens. :)

One time I was at work on a gorgeous sunny day and we were driving out to make a delivery to a vineyard that was out by vast wheat fields and old houses accompanied by this song. Truly magical.

i'm intrigued by the fact that this album starts with woman king and ends with lillith's song. I think it's about the mythological Bad Mother.
When I think of a Woman King I envision Dionysus and being they're called "Iron and Wine" I think might be right. Also Lillith is a beautiful deity. I think they're just pagan inspired musicians who fucking rock! 93.

I'd wager it's more because iPods were once useful products; and now they are simple money vacuums. Think about it; I have a friend who still is rocking an iPod circa 2001 or so, monochromatic screen. Yet a modern iPod lasts two years before it's time to replace.
