"Drunk On The Moon" by Tom Waits from the album 'The Heart Of Saturday Night'
Lyrics
Tight-slack clad girls on the graveyard shift
'Neath the cement stroll, catch the midnight drift
Cigar chewing Charlie in that newspaper nest
Grifting hot horse tips on who's running the best
And I'm blinded by the neon
Don't try and change my tune
Cause I thought I heard a saxophone
I'm drunk on the moon
And the moon's a silver slipper, it's pouring champagne stars
And Broadway's(8) like a serpent pulling shiny top-down cars
Laramer is teeming with that undulating beat
And some Bonneville is screaming, it's way wilder down the street
And I'm blinded by the neon
Don't try and change my tune
I thought I heard a saxophone
I'm drunk on the moon
Hearts flutter and race, the moon's on the wane
Tarts mutter their dream hopes the night will ordain
Come schemers and dancers, cherry delight
As a Cleveland-bound Greyhound, and it cuts through the night
And I've hawked all my yesterdays
Don't try and change my tune
Cause I thought I heard a saxophone
I'm drunk on the moon

One of my favorites. Captures that feeling of being free in a teeming metropolis at night. Well, how it used to be...anyway ;)
everyone stuck home every night, glued to electronics. no charm in the world anymore, just internet. You can always catch me wandering dead cities at night, or in the drunk tank
@@arealhuman826 I hear you brother. That's why you're a *real* human. The best to you, keep looking for that charm.
Downing a Ballentine's blended Scotch Whisky.
Smoking a pack of smokes with malfunctioning lungs.
In a place outside my city.
Surrounded by annoying bugs that the bats eat with glee.
Yearning for the moon that I can't seem to find.
And so I turn to the one song that captures both my situation and my yearning.
Old Tom, thanks for the company.
We're in this together, my friend.
Right there with you pal,...well minus the bugs & bats,..but can imagine & empathise, over another home poured "Double" of "Monkey 42 Gin", which I got as a Christmas Present,....which I've saved for a special occasion, whilst I, in peaceful solitudinous solicitude, do a 10 day countdown to, hopefully becoming a Grandad for the first time to my son's & his lovable wife's anxious wait to welcome their first born into their wonderful world, & whose marital, "first dance" as bride & groom, just 16 mths ago, was to that mighty Waits song, of their own choosing......
"A Little Trip To Heaven"....now, how more fulfilling could that be.
So thanks Tom, for remaining part of the continuum...you master Lyricist..you.!!!.👍

“I’ve always maintained that reality is for people who can’t face drugs” -Tom Waits
reality hurts substantially more.
That’s some of the most beautiful thing my ears have ever been caressed with.
Always one of Mr. Waits songs I keep with me...
How do you bow enough to this very grand music...
face down ass up maybe?
This song and 'The Heart Of Saturday Night' album is beautiful classic Tom.
Makes me wanna nurse a martini in a club. And I don't even drink.
Hambuerger
You could always start...with a ginger martini.

Makes me want to belly up to some dive and drink a few beer with him. Or cruse in one of ol' car in the moonlight.
Thank you Tom!
Very beautiful song thank you 🌷
Very tom waits song is heart touching man
Riding bikes at night down town when the lights are turned on and your listening to this
yes. literally and metaphorically this evening at one West African beach, with an english traveler sharing a glass of gin (and sharing our being), with hashies from a hearty hearted local friend, and with missing my one next to me for too long time ❤

"I thought I heard a saxophone 🎷
I'm drunk on the moon"....
This is Tom Version 1. The other is the Gin soaked voice. I like them both.
Esta melodia...
es magicamente hermosa :,)
Estamos aquí por la misma razón.
I wish to drink with this man one day
I was singing a random song I made up about sailing to the moon with a Greek mouse to find some cheese… don’t ask… and then this appeared in my recommended
I want to hear this Greek mouse moon cheese song.
