I have both knives. I keep them as emergency disaster knives in different kits. The LMFII is in my Urban EDC kit and the K Bar Becker is in my Wilderness disaster kit. Unlike most people I actually bought this knife because I like the sheath as well as the knife. I wouldn't trade this sheath for anything. During a disaster your knife is going to be full of dirt and trying to put it into a fancy Kydex sheath in a hurry when there's mud on it is going to be heck trying to clean that sheath out. That's why I prefer the k-bar. plus I could easily attach it to a backpack and put sharpening stone magnesium block and two fire Steels in that little pouch right there you have a survival kit. Plus that sheath has a slot for a smaller secondary knife.

I have the BK7, a great knife for the woods...the 1095CV is awesome steel. Mine has the tan micarta scales.

the gerber youre showing is almost identical to the one i use as a belt knife. while you were handling the Ka-Bar, i noticed how well balanced it is in your hand. do you feel a difference in this respect between these two knives?

Do you have any recommendations on knives/multitools/trauma shears for kids? Maybe a good topic for a separate video.

The Kbar is made in olean NY and they also make Cutco that I have and love. I would recommend them to anyone and they have the best customer service ever. Glad I bought my +8 set years ago because those suckers are really getting pricey now. I would recommend the fishing knife and scissors that you can cut a penny to a pig's tail. If you are an electrician they would be super handy.

Looking at some of the other videos on RUclips about vehicle egress tools, I'm convinced that the Res-Q-Me is superior to any sort of striking/hammering device.

The curved indent on the end of the bk7 can be used as a striker for a fire starter. You should try it out somtime.

How well do they strike a Ferro Rod?

No matter how sharp yu can make an edge, Stainless steels cut better and don't dull with the moisture in the air while sitting in the sheath, as carbon steels do. That being said, Carbon has other advantages like ease of sharpening and can throw sparks in an emergency. Because of the overall better design, better build of both the hendle and the blade geometry of the Becker, plus the size, BK7 is the winner of the 2 . BK 7 can doo detailed work with it's finer tip and can chop, so can do way more than the Gerber. Steel also provifes way way better edge stability, some of the best I've ever seen. Only Ballbearing knives and Vanadis 4 Extra, much that edge stability, while the softe steel on the Garberg, makes it's edge roll with medium to hard use.

Wouldn't using the BK 10 be a better apples to apples comparison? I think the Gerber may be better in an urban survival however, the handle is not full tang and has been known to loosen up when batoning wood in a woodland survival situation.

Did not really like the screws in the BK7 after buying the blade second hand. Seems to let in dirt and rust easily into places in the handle and tang that most people would not clean in the field.

Also, steel on the BK7 isn't 1095. It's called Carbon V, it's the steel that Cold Steel used back in the days! Better alloy than 1095, with performance closer to O1, than 1095... Ka-Bar heat treats it for toughness/edge stability and that's the best heat treatment for their knives in my opinion. Good user steel, even though Ballbearing is King as a user steel and in my opinion and others, the best steel for not only hunting knives, but for any kind of) outdoors knife meant for hard use. Better cutter, edge holding, toughness, edge stability (that's literaly second to none!) , than any other Carbon steels!!

one annoying thing i cant help but notice however about my gerber, is that it rattles in the sheathe as i walk.

I have a BK9 a BK7 and a BK2, they are all AMAZING KNIVES, I plan on smoothing out my thumb ramps due to I process 100's of pounds of fatwood with my BK's and my thumb gets pretty sore fast, I could wear gloves but that seems to be more dangerous while carving and shaping all of the fatwood handles for the ferro rod fire starters I make. It's hard to beat a Bk.

It's been awhile since I commented here last and boy my opinions on knives sure have changed ;) I can't stand heavy thick knives unless it's a knife for chopping. I mainly use a Condor Bushlore and Gerber Prodigy for everything.

Wrong about the mnoey going on the blade on the BK 7. With a piece of low grit sandpaper and a couple of minutes adding random scratches on the handle, it becomes better than G10. I made it feel like Micarta and grip better than both Micarta and G10!! Add to that, that it's the BEST handle design, such a knife could ever have.... and you get the perfect Survival knife!
