I never saw a practical use for these (legal issues aside) until I met an old biker (lets call him Jeff). He had tassels on his bar end maybe 10-12" long. One of the other riders happened to have one too many and not only singled out Jeff but in particular his leather tassels. One thing led to another and it tuned out one of the leather tassels had a 1/4" piece of cable running the last 8" or so and he had a quick release that had it in his hands in seconds. It was quite the formidable weapon.

you're definitely supposed to. if you buy a tactical whip, it will be a higher gauge cable within a plastic channel, with a steel ball of a slightly larger diameter soldered onto the striking end. the cable slack can be adjusted from the handle, to add or subtract rigidity, depending on how you prefer to swing it. No matter how you dial it in, however, the force of each swing is distributed to the tip. if you don't put some sort of tip on it, force would be lost as you slowly begin to fray the cable.

When you were just about finished with the handle, I caught myself blurting out, "Oh, look at that, it's a dildo." 😆
Seriously, though, this weapon is a clear Brutalizer! It's amazing such a weapon is legal, considering the Devastation it's capable of!
I have a fairly broad knowledge of weapons, but this one's new to me. 😳

Reminds me of when I was messing around with a cut off piece of 500kcmil electric wire. A quick flick of the wrist was enough to tear a pallet board in half.
Sadly that stuff is a bit too bulky to carry everywhere.

I'm not very handy in the workshop, so I purchased a 24" length of vinyl coated aircraft cable and some Plasti Dip in a can. I repeatedly dipped one end of the cable into the Plastic Dip to make the diameter a little large to create a handle. Keep this in my car for emergencies.

This device is easy enough to learn how to use, it is highly effective, and
last but not least, it is legal! And I speak from experience! When I was a
security guard working the graveyard shift I would carry something like
it, and I knew that I could have confidence in it! Take it from someone
who knows the score here! It more than once saved my life!

Get several small hose clamps and tighten them down firmly up and down the length of the cable. Then sharpen the excess metal sticking out from the clamp.
