    I never saw a practical use for these (legal issues aside) until I met an old biker (lets call him Jeff). He had tassels on his bar end maybe 10-12" long. One of the other riders happened to have one too many and not only singled out Jeff but in particular his leather tassels. One thing led to another and it tuned out one of the leather tassels had a 1/4" piece of cable running the last 8" or so and he had a quick release that had it in his hands in seconds. It was quite the formidable weapon.

    • @icandsc
      @icandsc 3 месяца назад

      you're definitely supposed to. if you buy a tactical whip, it will be a higher gauge cable within a plastic channel, with a steel ball of a slightly larger diameter soldered onto the striking end. the cable slack can be adjusted from the handle, to add or subtract rigidity, depending on how you prefer to swing it. No matter how you dial it in, however, the force of each swing is distributed to the tip. if you don't put some sort of tip on it, force would be lost as you slowly begin to fray the cable.

    A sword smithy I'm well acquainted with made something a lot like that as a very limited run. It was the same cable, but sword-length and hidden in a walking stick like a sword cane, as hiding a length of steel cable is a lot more legal than hiding a sword. Just the thought of getting hit with something like that makes me cringe.

    Find a truck parts store. Ask for an "Air tank hold down cable." Plastic covered 3/16" steel cable about 20" long. A steel button about 1 x 1/4" swaged at one end. Then a 5" long 3/8" stud swaged at the other end. Its ready made. I once heard its flexible enough to slip through your belt loops. Swing it it at a wooden board then imagine a mans hand!

    I used an old toilet scrubber handle for one I made, used JB weld to secure it in the bore hole, then dipped the whole handle end in plastidip... on the tip I molded a blob of JB weld, and dipped it in plastidip once it cured... It's basically like getting hit with a wire whip and a golf shot lol

    It turned out to be nice looking and functional as well. As a retired toolmaker, I would suggest that you add a pair of safety glasses to your daily projects. A small piece of abrasive grit will feel like a rock when it gets between your eye ball and the lid, and starts to scratch the shit out of things before it comes out. I had a small sliver of steel from a carbide burr get around my glasses. During the night it stuck into the eyeball and was raking the upper lid. At 2:30 I was in the emergency room with a bright light in my eye while the good doctor stained it and pulled it out. Two days later I was back to my normal condition. To all who read this, please be careful. You don’t want to throw shit into that fan.

    There might be a reason why it wasn't done or already recommended, but a suggestion for potentially improving the design - incorporate a leather loop into the bottom end.
    The right sized loop that you'd put your hand through and you'd be able to use it as freely while not having to worry about dropping it or getting to taken away.

    • @DiesInEveryFilm
      @DiesInEveryFilm  7 месяцев назад

      Because if someone happens to catch it as you swing it then they essentially can pull you towards them

    • @brokengood3621
      @brokengood3621 7 месяцев назад

      @@DiesInEveryFilm makes sense, did not consider that outcome.
      I would argue the short whip design would make it both difficult to catch and costly to do even if successful (damaging to the person's hand by multiple ways: the strike when they catch the whip, shredding their hand on the metal when pulling, or risk crushing their hand if they think they're smart and would wrap it around their hand after catching the whip).

    if you can get your hands on some 1/2" flexible driveshaft, it's MUCH more supple and springy than steel cable.
    ain't gonna make a big difference on the thwack, but it's gonna feel and handle much nicer. once you hold a piece of that stuff, it's hard to put down. :D

    Next time you fill weld the cable and cable end, use a bit more amps and a little more wire.
    Keep the nozzle in the middle and let it weld that way.
    Thats thick metal and welling the metal into one and other, for a homogeneous weld.
    So you weld from the middle out with nearly a spray arc, the weld should be made in less then 2 seconds.

    • @DiesInEveryFilm
      @DiesInEveryFilm  Год назад

    As a dare we made similar whip with my buddies, and we rolled dice on who gets to hit who with it. Full force on the back, with only t-shirt on.
    That was amazingly painful. There are no adjectives to properly describe the pain, but I'd label it as pure, crippling and brilliant pain. For some of us it took over year for the bruising to get off.
    The shot I took didnt luckily penetrate the skin, but for some people the tip of the whip went deep inside the skin.
    What on experience, I highly recommend testing it, as it hurts only for a minute or so.
