  • In today’s episode we review a 2,200 nit 7” monitor I use for my livestreams from FEELWORLD. They make the LUT7 in both HDMI only and HDMI + SDI models at an affordable price. The monitors support all of the best exposure, color, and focus tools like waveform, RGB parade, vector scope, RGB histograms, false color (in two varieties), zebras, and focus peaking.

Insteresting, at 3:47 a very simple approach to loading LUTs into the monitor. Many people are intimidated by LUTs, but if it's this simple to use them, LUTs may actually catch on!
I know that MAKING LUTs in Davinci Resolve is as simple as: 1. Select the "Color" workspace 2. Adjust ("grade") the color (the hardest part) 3. Click on the clip thumbnail 4. Right-click 5. Select "Export LUT" (or something like that)
So then, after that, a user would simply copy and paste the LUT onto a memory card and be ready to use it in this monitor😃

Thank you for this review. I just received my LUT7 (no need for SDI at present). Sunny day today so I tested this today as a field monitor, it is certainly bright enough for outside use. I'm glad that the Feelworld monitors are getting some attention. I have the 7" 4K Ultra-Bright monitor (no touch screen) which is fantastic in the bright Australian sun, as well as the F570 (low brightness) monitor. My SmallRig cage for the 7" makes it very rugged. I just wish Feelworld would produce a ~5" Ultra-Bright monitor and I could then retire my Atomos Shinobi (which I hate). And thanks again for your earlier assistance.

Hi Curtis. Thank you for another great review. As a smallHD users with aging eyes (lol) I was thinking of getting this to replace my Focus. I have 2 questions nobody has addressed in the 4 reviews I've watched so I thought I'd ask you.
    1) is there any way to pivot the monitor to the side (I'm often standing next the the camera...not directly in front or behind).
    2) Can you set up a shot from behind and then complete flip the monitor over on the arm for these talking head shots (and if so, will the monitor automatically flip and reverse the image like the SmallHD)?
Thanks in advance and have a great weekend.

    • @curtisjudd
      @curtisjudd  4 года назад

Hi Baby Back Maniac, Thanks. 1) yes, depending on the friction arm or cold shoe mount you use, but yes, just turn it to the side. 2) It can be flipped, but it is not automatic - you have to manually go into the menu and flip it. I don't think this would be an upgrade across the board from the SmallHD Focus except for maybe the size of the screen.

I would like one of those on-camera little monitors to connect to my computer for metering of audio only duties and I wonder if that would be possible since they have HDMI input.

What are your thoughts on the sharpness and overall video quality of the display? I have an entry-level Aputure VS2 monitor now that is really not helpful at pulling perfect focus. I am looking for a nice affordable monitor that will help me pull perfect focus for interviews and most importantly I need to be able to see a crisp clear image that shows my subject is in focus on the monitor screen. This is great monitor although there is one issue that makes me wonder
if my unit is defective: If I have a battery connected to the monitor a
red led will ALWAYS be on. Even after powering the unit to the green led
status, then powering off, the led will then show red and it will stay
that way until I remove the battery. The problem with this is that I
must always remove the battery for fear that it will be drained over
time by the perpetual burning of the red led. Has anyone else
experienced this, or is it just me?

I know it's a bit small for maybe the best studio use of that, but I have a portable rig (kind of like a DJ case) setup for outdoor multicam live-streaming and am considering this monitor for that. Small & bright for portable and outdoor use is great, but larger seems the way to go for the ATEM? Thanks again for your great content.

One more Question. Another RUclipsr sold his 3 BMD cams and bought a stable of Canon 500’s As I recall. He said he could not get get the 3 BMD cams set to the same color. Good idea for a future video. I use a Canon C200 and set of Panasonic GH5 cams as overhead and secondary for my livestreams so I haven't been exposed to color matching issues with my BMD Pocket 4K and 6K, but good idea to look into that. I didn't want an expensive recorder with a fan in it for my livestreams. I've been tempted by the BMD monitor/recorders recently, but have less need now that I have the C200 which will take over as the A cam on corporate shoots once the pandemic settles. Hi Jay, it does not swivel but I didn't have any issues with it getting in the way of the HDMI ports or cables. Perhaps they changed it since I made this review?

The monitor has great features, but the glossy reflective finish put me off.

Understood. Glossy finish is an engineering/design trade-off situation. It is an inexpensive way to get more contrast and black shadows, but it can be reflective and distracting.
