I'd like to hear your opinion on the X85J/X89J (when it's out), higher spec, better design, with HDMI 2.1, I believe making Sony the only brand who has this spec at 43 inch and above.
Thanks for the review; I purchased my 43X80J a few weeks ago and I am as pleased and impressed as you are with the overall quality for the price point. Put simply - it serves my viewing needs more than satisfactorily. I’m in the UK and the one major grip I have is that Sony decided not to include the following apps - BBC iPlayer, ITV, All4 and Eurosport. These apps should be a standard inclusion within any TV sold in the UK so it was disappointing to discover this. When I quizzed Sony their response was… “…this is a temporary situation, but one that is currently beyond our control and very much in the hands of 3rd party service provider. Your TV is ready for these applications once the situation moves forward. You can still enjoy the catch-up TV content by using your mobile device to cast content to your Sony TV until the app situation is resolved.” When I further enquired about the issues with the 3rd part SP’sI got - crickets… As you have Sony’s attention, you may want to pursue this further.
Great tone of voice and presentation overall but please be more informative about differences within single model because your 55" has an IPS panel while, say, the 50" has VA, it's like night and day. No wonder you find that the TV struggles with black perfomance but is probably a bit better in brightness. I hate this panel lottery within the same model. It should be outlawed.
I have bought this TV recently and must say that this tv as described in video is not recommended pretty average picture quality .You get dirty screen effect in all four corners. Blacks are not good .Not a value for money product...you get better TV at this price point..
I own both sets and the brightness levels are better on the X800H, but they are bright 'enough on the X80J at the price. Color accuracy is more important than peak brightness. IMO.
Thank you for the review. Which panel and inch size had the Sony you reviewed? Depending on the inch scale this model brings different panels (IPS or VA). That would be interesting to know.

My X80J is doing a stellar job. It replaced an X900E that was kaput after a pet mishap. After just a few tweeks it performs almost as well as the X900E even though that TV had a FALD screen. My only regret is that I couldn't purchase the 65 inch screen because the US only gets the wide leg configuration. Well done Sony!
@@tealx2014 For the most part. The black levels are obviously not OLED like, and the viewing angles are not great, but it gives a very pleasing picture all things considered. At the price of $699 for the 55" it is best in class.
