It should definitely be stressed that this comparison is only valid for the 50" version of the X80J which has a VA panel. Every other size except 85" uses an IPS panel which could result in very different picture quality than what was discussed in this video.
Excellent point - 50" version of TVs across the board this year appear to be mostly VA and ends up being the best deal on the market compared to its larger IPS siblings. Also, the Q60A and U6G are all VA panels across their sizes so this 50" X80J is the only size capable of battling it out against the other two.
@@stopthefomo man yoy should really redo the video yoy just uploaded on mediatek. Vincnet didn't once say the mediatek chip does it to all tvs. He specifically said Panasonic had issues with macro blocking and flashing more then past due to he mediatek chip and went able to find a way around it. Sony clearly did as it improved in that area. You took what he said yet again out of context as he said you seem to take what he says and flip it a bit. You couldn't even tell people what part of image quality he was talking about. He didn't say processing he didn't say color and he didn't say anything else besides macro blockingand flashing. That was an area Panasonic was best in just nit this year. He clearly said it's a Panasonic issue with it not a Sony. All the areas he said were worse on Panasonic he said was better on the Sony. The Sony had better macro blocking and flashing this yesr then any previous year. He said the sony was the biggest step forward from sony in years and it had the best image processing he's seen in 16 years. He gave the Sony the best in class award not the Panasonic. He never said once the mediatek chip hurts the a90j in image quality. You clearly took what was said and added that to it. He never once said the soby has the same issues it clearly doesn't. He never said mediatek hurt the Sony in the review either. It was specifically that Panasonic didn't know how to get around the issues it caused on there tv. Sony clearly found a way or didn't even have that issue. So again you really need to redo what you said. It's ridiculous to lump them all together when he clearly didn't. I already reached out to Vincent hopefully he responds to your video soon. Absokurrly ridiculous you couldn't even say what aprt of image waulity it was jsut that it's image quality. You probanaly didn't even hear which part of image quality it was. Well now you know since I told you. Absolurrly ridiculous to say all tvs with emdistek that clearly isn't true. He didn't have. The issues with the sony he had with the panasonic. He was blown away by the sony clearly stated its the best image qaukity he's seen. Also lg has macro blocking and flashing without the mediatek chip. It's an oeld issue it's just the Panasonic now having the chip had a harder time reducing it. You clearly didn't listen. Looks like he took down the video because of you also. You need to stop this oh let me get on it fast and take things out of context stuff with Vincent. He already mentioned all yall once in his videos Doing that. Now because of you people will talk about image quality without even being specific. He specifically said it made it so Panasonic handling of macro blocking and flashing was worse then previous years an issue all oled tvs have but Panasonic was best at covering it up thats the only thing he said that the 2.1 chip hurt with the panasonic. Any other short comings were the tv manufacturers themselves. He clearly said the Sony was better with macro blocking and flashing this yesr and was better across the board then previous years so don't go around spreading false information please. It would be different if he said in his soby review that it had issues in image quality due to the chip but he didn't. He clearly said it's a Panasonic issue with the chip they couldn't resolve and issue he clearly never stated was on the sony. As you see he was very enthusiastic about the Sony but not the Panasonic. He gave the Sony the best in class award and specifically stated its the best image quality he's seen on an oled. He never once said mediatek is hurting the a90j image quality he did say it was on the Panasonic. Sony figured out how to use the chip without having those issues Panasonic couldn't find a way with processing to get around it not hard to understand. The issues he found on the Panasonic he did not find on the Sony. Do not lump them all together. Keep in mind the sony got his best in class award over the Panasonic and the lg. So yeah
@@stopthefomo I also forgot to mention Vincent already explained the Sony tvs this yesr the a80j and a90j both use the daighterboard soc to combat any issues with the mediatek soc which is how Sony bypassed any issues other manufacturers may have including the issues they had with the 900h themselves so that's another thing you didn't hear it's why vincnet isn't lumping the Sony tvs with the panasonic it's also why the Panasonic has issues with the mediatek soc while the sony doesn't lol it does not hurt any part of the sony image quality as voncnet never pointed out one time that the sony was hindered in any way by it like he did with the panasonic and that's why it's why Vincent didn't point out the same issues on the Sony as it doesn't have said issues he explained this before he even did his a90j review he stated Sony told him they were using this so it wouldn't even have the issues the 900h had lol
I bought and received the Sony X80J recently. I have a background in film and television production, and I’m happy with this model so far. There is a package you can buy for about $100 more that includes a wall mount, sound bar, surge protector, and other accessories. That accessories package is being shipped separately, so I am trying out the TV without it. To my experienced ears, the speakers are lacking the in base range a bit, but most people wouldn’t notice it too much.
Personally i picked up the U6G (Partially because of the price). That said, I would never use any amount of motion interpolation on any TV. Black-frame insertion or bust.
I have a U6G now. No panel issues, after I calibrated my U6G as much as it hurts me to admit… it’s on par with my 1,200$ Sony. Black levels, color, clarity, in every category the U6G will kill the Samsung and Sony if you get a solid panel.
@@justlg3359 I haven’t had any issues with hisense so far. No dead pixels, no horrible uniformity issues. Blacks are very good for this price point. I’m still surprised by it.
For someone like myself who isn't familiar with all the LED technologies, you did an excellent job of breaking down the performance categories and clearly demonstrating the differences such that we could observe them for ourselves. Most other videos just show clips then speak to the observed differences but it was never as obvious or easy to follow as in your review - excellent job!
I appreciate the nuance in your review. Ironically, Rtings had the X80J as dead last. The U6G has superior ratings in almost every way, and an astounding price. I wish it had motion interpolation, though,
Used this video to help with my purchase decision :) Ended up going with the Q60A 75" as it was $400 cheaper than the X80J 75" at the time of purchase & also have a Samsung Dolby atmos soundbar so the bad sound is not an issue. Went instore and got them to play bluray content on both to compare them, and you're correct.. the color is great on the X80J, but the HDR compared to the Q60A is quite rubbish. Another thing that X80J did very well compared to the Q60A was the viewing angle as the 75" X80J uses a IPS panel. Luckily ill be directly infront of the Q60A. Also the fact you can tune the Q60A to look very similar to the X80J, the difference was not really worth $400. But thanks for the video, was helpful! :D
Great review.. ! And your point about RTINGS is bang on… I’ve felt for some time now that they are strictly about their numbers, without taking the synergy of how all the choices made regarding technical design come together in real viewing.
Good video but guy above has a great point. Also the ug6 does have better blacks👍 Since none are perfect id go with the Hisince cause cheeper or spend over 1000.00 for little better
Thank you for this comparison. So happy you ended doing the 50' models because oddly enough that variant is the only one for the Sony X80J that uses a VA Panel. All the other sizes for the X80J use ADS. So happy it was a battle of VA panels across the board. This is so helpful. You're the Best.
Interesting. So sony also adds ads panels into their 55 to 75 inch tvs this year... Sounds almost like a global VA panel shortage, or that all the tv producers have decided to mess with the consumers.
So, a newb question here, which is better, VA or IPS. I have IPS on my gaming computer and it's dang good. But I know TVs and monitors are not the same.
I’m sure there are many people out there who like myself just need a smaller (43 inch) TV for their bedroom. So it’s not necessarily about finding a cheap TV, but finding one that is small enough for a bedroom.
Great comparison video 👍 While some reviewers focus just on the figures and forget the picture quality in real life scenario , others focus just on the brightness, black level and colour saturation. Your comparison is to the point, unbiased, and hence useful. When it comes to colour science and clarity, Sony is the best. Period. Just one question. How does the Sony X80J compare against the Sony X8000H (2020 model)?
It's what I mostly wait too. However already got completely disappointed by our EU model since I saw a video on the C82 miniled being a complete disaster showing stars on deep black space, basically the whole TV was just squares all over the place, black squares on the dark parts of the universe and very lit gray, whitish squares on the parts with stars and the worse is they are big squares which mean low local dimming zones, even the minileds in that scene don't help a single bit, in fact looks like the most horrendous thing I ever seen in a TV and their old crap local dimming was even better (hope they really improve their local dimming algorithm here in EU since the TV is not yet released for public sale)... Anyway TCL EU was never good, it never, ever had the same nice models that they always had in US and prices are also higher :(
@@xuimod The TCL 6 series from 2020 when reviewed by rtings in 2020 was only 650$ which would only buy like a non HDR (fake HDR) with no local dimming here in EU...
Your videos make my tv look good because of your black background against your white shirt. I have the Sony X900H. I think the picture quality on that TV is really well balanced especially in Dolby Vision. Dolby Vision on the X900H looks really nice especially in a dark room.
To the point and super informative sir! I recently pickup a Hisense U8G 65 for 1000 with tax. Gotta luv the open box pit at Best Buy. Absolutely stunning and great full for your input!
I say the TCL r625 gives all these TVs a run for their money, even the x80j I wish I still had that set. It really did have gorgeous color…Sony like color imo.
How about a "Misen Scene" Rating ? I.e. taking all the elements together, HDR, Contrast, black levels, image retention, motion, colour accuracy, skin tones & even sound - or to put it another way "The Feel" - How doe the TV make you feel ? You wouldn't want a TV that score highly on 80% of those and other factors but it's motion is so bad in makes you feel physically ill, or the backlight is so bright and blue it give you eyestrain and headaches... So yeah - perhaps those are only questions someone who lives with it for a while can answer.
@@stopthefomo I agree with FOMO about the SD colour on Sony TV's it is way nicer. Heck I'd be a sony fanboy for TV's if they'd just catch up on some of the secondary issues. they do some things very well - like they don't skip frames on 120z video for example. Their upscaling is very good (though can make things look a bit CGI sometimes) Their Motion is good - but since I personally use a TV mostly for games - the gaming features are more important to me - but heck if someone didn't play games and wanted a TV - i'd point them towards Sony too.
@@stopthefomo Hello. I’m in the market for a new TV. I’m going to play console games quite a lot and watch movies. I might also play the same game for months (not non stop, of course :) and I’m really worried about the burn-in due to the static HUDs (mini-maps etc.) There are 2 options for me right now: Sony 55XH90 and LG 48 C1/CX. The Sony is $600 cheaper (it’s basically the price of PS5), but the picture quality is worse than LG’s and it lacks some gaming features. (The XH90 also has a 4K 120 blur effect) Screen brightness doesn’t really matter, I usually close the curtains anyway, plus deep black color isn’t a game changer for me (I prefer playing with lights on) Which TV would be a better option in my case? Are there any other good options within the price range? Thanks!
According to the Rtings evaluation of budget TVs, the Hisense U6G outperforms the Samsung Q60A in EVERY category, including "Mixed Usage", "Movies", "HDR Movies", "TV Shows", "Sports", "Gaming", "HDR Gaming" and "PC Monitor". Every model in the Hisense U6G product line also costs significantly LESS when compared to the same size model in the Samsung Q60A series (for instance, the 55" U6G is currently selling for $449.99, while the 55" Q60A is $697.99). If you want a budget 50", 55", 65", or 75" TV, choosing the Hisense U6G instead of the Samsung Q60A is an absolute no-brainer.
Finding a good 43 inch TV with some of the latest tech features (VA is a must) is like finding a unicorn. To date, after a lot of research, the Sony X85J 43 inch tv (confirmed with VA panel on rtings' customer forum thread) is the only quality 43inch tv I can call my unicorn. If space were not limited, and if a had a larger budget, I would take the 48 inch LG C1 in a heartbeat.
@@xBravo412x Funny thing, my Tv turned out to be VA, not IPS. I have done "knocking" test. Check youtube, there are movie clips how to recognize panel type. "afseale" user posted it.
@@xBravo412x Hi, yes I have 43 inch x85j. What I think about it? It is a great tv and I love the picture, contrast is superb and I think it is worth every penny. My friends have samsung tvs from 2019 and this sony has far better picture.
TCL 6 Series from last year if it was still the same price I think it would blow these tv's away minus the blooming, it gets bright, in SDR and HDR and the sound is very good.
Just got this u6g and I could not be happier. It handles motion fine. I watch football all the time and it’s great. Very bright picture. It does need a little help with color accuracy. But you’re not going to notice it unless you have a different TV right next to it. Sound like a ok sound bar. And Dolby Vision and HDR content are really good. Got mine on sale from $479 I paid $429
Under 700$? Must be USD! Here in Canada as of August 2022 Q60A and X80J are 1200 cad some are cutting price at 900 cad. U6G is more close to 700$ 750 CAD Our money is very bad here 1usd cost us 1.28$. so buying a 100$ US cost us 128$. An american coming in Canada is millionnaire. Even if we have higher prices because we have taxes on everything. A 1200 cad tv will cost you in reality 1380 cad with taxes. In us money it means 1075$US. So the same tv will cost you 250$ more here.
I am a Tv guy that works in an electronics store, according to your review, your reviews are just like consumers trying to make a decision that is very very amazing and that's how we use tv : Netflix, youtube, showmax, hbo max, hulu & other broadcast services like in my region it is called DSTV. I follow steve tech, Rtings also....but your channel seems to speak to me more. Not we trying to stand in the lab full of testing equipment and plenty Vocabularies. I honestly wish i have seen you earlier, but it's never too late. I have you all for myself. Do you review soundbars too ? Great content, please don't stop. I always rate sony higher, samsung next, LG 3rd, Tcl 4th, hisense 5th. I don't really like selling big sizes made by hisense....my customers always says, it's not as clear as seen the store or as expected using DSTV broadcast service that only give HD pictures in all its channels. Using Netflix & other high resolution streaming apps that can stream full hd, 4k and hdr content on cheaper brands hides their flaws and that only leave some users with durability & after sales service. Come to Africa where 1$ = 720 Naira ( Nigeria ), so 100$ = 72,000 Naira Buying a 700$ Tv will cost around 504, 000 Naira. ( That will pay my rent for 2years in my small apartment and feed me for 8months - 11months, home made food ) Someone's salary per month over here is around 120,000 on average and 60% of the jobs pays less.......some people earn 500,000 Naira, 700,000 Naira & up to 1,000,000 Naira per month but that is just like 20% of the working class doing high jobs like, sailors, pilots, doctors, surgeons, oil sectors and our greedy politicians earns in millions. And a mid-range tv cost around 700$ ( 504,000 Naira ) I used to earn around 100$ per month 2021 ( using todays currency exchange rate USD - Nigerian Naira ) I decided to quit my job because i spent 70% of my income on transportation and bills, the remaining 30% is for my savings, upkeep and investment. What a shame. I wish i can start up an electronics store with my 5years experience on entertainment electronics. Capital is dragging me back till date You see plenty the figures ? I hope i can work in the US or start up my own showroom. Capital fights me daily.
Thanks for the side by side comparisons! I ultimately chose the U7G. They had the x80j above a U8G at bestbuy, but they deliberately set the U8G to look washed out and just plain terrible, but the sony was set with deep color saturation. There was a U7G next to it set to a better setting and the brightness just slayed the x80j. The sony also had terrible artifacts and judder. It was so bad that the sales people had to cheat to try to sell the sony over a hisense. Just my experience, yours might be different 🤷♂️
I had exactly opposite experience. Sony looked excellent, though hisense was very close though. Durability matters, for me and the price difference for me was just around 100 usd so I obviously I picked up Sony. Not sure where you but in in India where I live, investing in a 700 usd tv means, good support and after sales service is a priority. That said I didn't lose anything I just gained. Only thing I lost was extra 100 usd😁
Sadly true because when one of my brothers cut the cable, I listened to the rest of an episode of iZombie on my Samsung Galaxy A52 5g handset and was shocked at the Audio fidelity coming from the 📱! Intriguingly ironic! The only thing that made it much better if I had the JBL Tune760NC headphones operating!
**WARNING**** A main difference that many reviews have forgotten to include is how absolutely thick, bulky and heavy the Sony is. The Samsung is slim, sleek and weighs less. Samsung would be the clear choice for overall esthetic along with being able to nearly flush mount it to the wall. I originally purchased the Sony X80 based on all of the hype and reviews in comparison to others in its class. Upon unboxing it I was utterly dissatisfied. I did my best to love the TV and used it for nearly 2-months. I just couldn't get over the bulkiness and how outdated the appearance is. It literally looks like a motel TV when its off. I bit the bullet and returned it for the Samsung Q60. To say the least I am very pleased with my decision. Yes, the X80 is a brilliant TV with an exceptional interface and crystal clear picture but when the TV is not side by side being compared to the Samsung, the Q60 by itself is absolutely amazing. I am very pleased that I decided to sacrifice the robust outdated style of the Sony for the Modern Sleek Samsung. (Samsungs are just better in a minimalist clean bedroom). With that being said, Sonys are top class as their quality is undeniable and I will be in the market for the A95 once they are back in stock.
Just bought my Father 55" U6G for Christmas. He was still using a 10 Year Old 1080P TV. So feel like he should notice a pretty good difference in picture quality.
Excellent video Fomo! I like how you compared the three tv"s and wasn't afraid to state your opinion. I feel as I watch more and more videos from different tv reviewers that Rtings seem to have a loss on real test content. They need to have a practical test which will match real use from people who won't take the time to calibrate or switch settings on a tv, with three categories of HDR, SDR and game play. I also getting the feel that panel lottery is a lot worse than anyone really knows as some reviewers sing praises about U6G but crap all over the Sony x80J - and no I don't owe a Sony tv. In the end, a person needs to compare the tv's that they want to buy in person.
For the kind of test that FOMO does you need experience and a well trained eye. I don't think anyone at RTINGS is on that level that FOMO is right now. That's why I prefer his content over theirs.
Good call on the Sony. I would also add this comment. I will bet the Sony is more durable and reliable over the long haul as well. Consumer reports sure thinks so too.
@@MrRaitzi Sony tvs are reccomendes from and for the highest level of enthusiasts. The only reason people would choose lg is for gaming that's not a tv enthusiast. Sony is known for there Hollywood image quality and there a80j/a90j get closest to reference monitors. Vincent from HDTV test just did a comparison not long ago with the a90j and was the closest an oled got to the reference oled monitor. Just saying sony is known for movie watching and content in general. It is actually the most refered to tvs for enthusiasts. John the guy who claibrates the tvs for the US shootout got the Sony a90j over all other tvs due to its dynamic range and impact in image qaulity. Everyone has been reccomending Sony tvs for movie watchers and lg for gamers.
@@MrRaitzi oh alright though you meant Sony in general my bad lol like Sony is a tv which is not annoying so I thought you meant Sony in general lol yeah I mean but if someone is in the market for tvs at rhat price that are Lee Lee the Sony still wins with processing and stuff and follows the intent for the content best even at the x900h level but I do get what you are saying lol
I’m a big audio fan, probably more important than the picture. The quality of the picture I can settle for the quality. So I got the A80J in 50” . I live in a Apartment and was very happy with my decision and the remote works on my older Sony HD, and vice versa. Very Convenient as I always loose them, in bed, in the kitchen. You name it.
yep, today 8 months later it's still cheap at $399 amazon, comes with either firesticktv or google tv. that price is tempting. also it has 4 HDMI and 2 USB and all the AV inputs and ethernet port, visual port, port for headphones and a few others. i think samsung only has 1 usb and 2 hdmi and none of the av inputs.
U6g gets here Monday! Backlight went out in our older Vizio that was a standard 4K from a few years back. Hoping for a subtle upgrade at the very least. Not gonna be using for gaming, just for the boos tv shows mainly and movies ofc (:
I actually use a receiver with a pair of quality speakers with my old FullHD TV, so I've got audio covered. I don't need a new soundbar, so I'd focus more on picture quality and the rich colour pallette, so Sony would probably be the winner for me.
The Vizio m series absolutely should be in this comparison. Better blacks than the Sony and local dimming to compete with the Samsung. I’m not a huge vizio fan but if I had to buy one it would be the m series
I bought a 65 inch ru8000 last year for 670! 65 inch... of course not the brightest TV but for an Dark Room enough to me. And also HDR looks very good because of the good static contrast. It is very hard to find a better TV for around 1000 and 65. Because if i buy a new TV i ´m looking for a better quality. Only OLED is it worth imo...
My Hisense h8g is dying. Turns on by itself. Turns off by itself. CEC issues. Sound cutting out. Very disappointed. I’ll never buy a budget brand again. I will buy a budget TV from a major brand. Why I’m here. Looking at the Sony and Samsung products in this video. Great video. Thank you.
The way the overall picture quality of the Sony is described, reminds me off higher end headphones that have a flat sound profile. While cheap headphones either have too much treble (peak brightness) or too boomy and bassy (blacks). The higher quality headphones can give you that detail in the middle which makes the audio sound more complete and balanced. From there you can adjust to taste. The Sony in this vid seems to be that more complete image.
I did lot of research i was going to get samsung tu7000 or lg au8000 but now I'll get q60a bcs first thing it is qled tv, second it has ambient mode my favourite. I know sony is better and sound quality but q60a ambient feature just took me. If this feature could have in x80j I'll go for that without second thought.
Hola! Right now same price is for Samsung 43Q60A and for TCL 50C725. What tv do you recommend more? TCL is bigger, has Dolby Atmos (is it really a big difference without soundsystem, compared to Samsung?) and has Android OS which means more applications. But I also heard people complaining about OS being slower, and even audio and video getting out of sync in some cases. Price for both right now is around 500e. What would you buy, or would you recommend a different tv with similar price? I do not have consoles so I do not need 144hz right now (maybe if there is some tv with similar price then I would by it). Thanks. :)
Which of these would be best for watching sports/ice hockey. In the store, it seemed the Samsung provided great clarity with fast-paced action scenes, but here it seems the Sony would do well. Also-and maybe more important-does this change with the larger Sony screens if they are IPS and not VA? Thank you to anyone who can help with this!
Lots of people use their TV to play video games which means response time and input lag are important and should be a factor or at least give those specs. Also if you know what brand the panel is when your testing them I doubt your opinion isn't being influenced by your own bias.
Logistics man, TV's have gotten so expensive with the f-ed up supply chain. I bought a 55" TCL 6 series for $550 2 1/2 years ago. 55" 6 series now costs $900.
This part of the market is the bread and butter. The meat. I knew plenty of folks who can afford more expensive tvs but in my expereince most people dont think spend more than 800 dollar on a tv is reasonable. Across my family people compliment my oled and go get a 5-700 dollar tv right after.
loved your presentation, thank you. I was looking at the Hisense to run our wildlife continuous cameras viewing on. one thing not mentioned was the ports available, the Hisense has 4 HDMI and 2 USB and all the AV inputs and ethernet port, visual port, port for headphones and a few others. this is great for all different types of cameras even analog which i also use sometimes (ultra stable set and forget). Compare to samsung only has 1 usb and 2 hdmi and none of the av inputs. I'm not sure about the Sony, the picture is best and wins for watching movies i agree there. However, as you said, everyone has different objectives, like the fact that I don't watch movies so for me it's just about the cameras, the more inputs and ports the better.
I've had the Sony x8000g x8000h and x80j and the x8000h is the best of the 3 in my opinion. It has better peak highlights for HDR but still retains decent colour accuracy.
I know these are supposed to be budget TV's but are they like bottom-of-the-barrel, not-meant-to-last TV's? I bought a LG UJ6300 in 2017, I believe it was a bottom of the barrel TV and I bought it new at $800. 4 years later the backlights have turned blue. I just bought a C1 to replace the old LG as my main TV but would still like a secondary TV. Should I be looking a step-above the 3 featured TV's if longevity/build quality is important to me?
Costco is selling the 55" U6GR5, anyone know what panel it uses and is it a newer version of the U6G? It supposedly has VRR, HDMI 2.1, local dimming, and 240 Hz Motion Rate, 3-yr standard warranty. All for the price of $450.
Great heads up! Was just about to buy at Best Buy for $500. Better deal via Costco at $450. Plus it seems the Costco model has HDMI 2.1 and the VRR that Best Buy’s does not. (And a better warranty) . Local dimming, motion rate is the same for both units. I’ll use the 50 bucks towards a sound bar.
and lucky for me i saw your comment. good thing too because we have 5 big windows and sliding glass door on top of that, shiny reflective would be horrible here. thanks, that helped narrow down my search.
65" U6G for $649 BestBuy will be delivered on the 14th. I do not think My Daughter mind. I'm getting old 50" Samsung plasma back. It will replace 32" 720 Insignia.
Very helpful video! Looking forward to the next comparison. I would be interested to know your thoughts on the next step up for those who can stretch their Dollar. Seems like there are a lot of options at different prices this year.

Make a full comparison with Live demo between Sony X80J (43 inch) and Samsung The Frame 2021 (43 inch) in terms of display quality and sound between the 2 TVs.
I am ver confused between Sony X80J and Samsung Frame. The most important thing that matters to me is the picture quality and contrast of mainly 1080p content. Please help, thankyou!
I'm stuck btwn the Sony and the Samsung. I'm leaning toward the Samsung because my living room gets a whole lot of sunlight and i might be okay with a tiny bit of color inaccuracy in order to get a clearer image. Am i off base?
Thanks for putting the 50" Sony X80J on my radar for the best budget TV option for overall cinematic picture quality. Would it be fair to say that the X85J should also have similarly good quality in more size options? (almost all VA panels I think?) Plus X85J adds some level of 120Hz support. Since 50" X80J is on Super Bowl Sale for $499, I'm going to try it as a replacement for the TCL 5-series S546 I got for $379. The TCL has weirdly bad picture/backlight quirks in shadows, tons of dirty screen effect and the remote + UI are very frustrating. 3 buttons to get to the Inputs menu, or 4 buttons to get to the Picture Modes menu, then 3 or 4 buttons to get back out of the menus, ugly popups whenever the frame rate/input changes, ugh. Even though the Sony is also Google TV, I'm hoping Sony's experience with Android and better quality overall will give a better user experience on the X80J. From the videos I think it looks like Sony's UI fixes most of my papercut irritations with TCL's Google TV + remote. Plus the X80J has 4 HDMI inputs vs the TCL's 3 HDMI, and the Sony says has ATSC 3.0 TV tuner making it feel a bit more future-proof. It also seems to have support for auto-calibration with CalMAN Home? For anyone else like me looking for solid fundamentals of TV watching experience, I'll update my comments if I decide not to keep the X80J after it arrives next week. The other budget option I'm considering is the Hisense U6GR5 55" Roku TV on sale at Costco for $399 right now. Rtings pick for best Roku TV, I think this would also solve my annoyance with TCL's Google TV UI. But since you've shown the quality problems with the U6G line, I'm hoping the Sony will be the best overall bet.
Follow up on the Sony X80J vs Hisense U6GR5, I kept both actually. The Hisense went to my girlfriend’s house. I liked the simple UI of the Roku Hisense, although I was shocked at how crappy looking almost all Roku apps are. The larger 55” Hisense size is definitely preferable to the 50” Sony. The Sony X80J does offer a lot more tweakability than the Roku and its Google TV UI is MUCH better designed than the TCL Google TV I tried. I can do almost everything I need in 1 or 2 button presses unlike the TCL. However the trade-off is that the Sony seems to *need* tweaking more often than the Hisense to get best results, the Hisense tended to default to looking pretty good without as much adjustment. The biggest problem with the X80J is that it’s exposed a lot of flaws in my 2017 Apple TV 4K that I didn’t realize were there. There are some motion blur problems that I’ve been able to address by running the X80J in Game mode, and some flickering in whites & blacks that I can sometimes minimize by turning up some of the X80J image processing settings. Maybe the newer Apple TV 4K would fix this? Be warned that the 2017 ATV 4K and X80J do not make an ideal combo. I’m tempted to just use the Google TV apps instead to get best picture quality. “The Expanse” season 4 on Prime Video was one darkly lit show that caused a lot of motion blur issues for example. “Severance” and “On The Rocks” on Apple TV+ are two examples that caused a lot of flicker in blacks/whites. Another nice thing about the Sony is that I can navigate both the Apple TV and Playstation 5 interfaces with the Sony remote over HDMI, nice surprise! Hisense can’t do that. The Sony can also turn off the image for playing music over Apple TV to receiver, which Hisense can’t do. I wish I could turn off Dolby Vision on the Sony since it’s not bright enough for real HDR anyway. I’d be happy with a great SDR picture that didn’t need frequent settings adjustment. The Apple TV doesn’t allow for disabling Dolby Vision if using “Match range and framerate”, only other choice is to force all ATV content to SDR or to HDR10 regardless of original content type. With the Sony in Game mode all the Apple TV content looks great except Dolby Vision content. Too late to return it now and I’m tired of swapping TVs anyway, wish the X80J + Apple TV combo was a little smoother. This is with the latest March 2022 FW update on the Sony also. Maybe I’ll just force the Apple TV to SDR and do “Match framerate” only. Or switch to the Google TV app for occasional shows that look weird.
Perhaps Hisense has something (regardless of size) at $700 worth considering. Though I would say this you can easily get a Nano 70 for this sort of money and as it doesn't have the terrible back lighting problems of the 80 series and you can get a pretty big screen for well under $1000 on that model Though if someone turns the backlight down to low and says Bye bye to the HDR the Nano 86 has a lot of sales and contains some of the gaming features too. Oh and I wish he'd mentioned if these' TV all have 60hz panels or not. as well as how they deal with the display of subtitles too.
Hello FOMO. What is the best 65-75 inch tv for under $1200? Not worried about sound. Have a Yamaha/Klipsch 7.4.6 system. Not a gamer. Mostly movies. Room size 22L x 16W. My Sony kdl 65w950b just died.Cheers 🍻 EH!🇨🇦👽👍 Thanks for your time.
1:48 I don't know how long I have waited to hear those exact words!
Channel screamed quality from the very first second of my arrival here.

It should definitely be stressed that this comparison is only valid for the 50" version of the X80J which has a VA panel. Every other size except 85" uses an IPS panel which could result in very different picture quality than what was discussed in this video.
the reviewer should mention this ....fuck this changes every thing in review
worth mentioning!!
Black levels, color, clarity, in every category the U6G will kill the Samsung and Sony if you get a solid panel.
may i see how u calibrated? since i want to buy a u6g but i heard hisense has alot of issues and quality control, is this true?
@@justlg3359 I haven’t had any issues with hisense so far. No dead pixels, no horrible uniformity issues. Blacks are very good for this price point. I’m still surprised by it.
How did you calibrate it?
How do you calibrate?
For someone like myself who isn't familiar with all the LED technologies, you did an excellent job of breaking down the performance categories and clearly demonstrating the differences such that we could observe them for ourselves. Most other videos just show clips then speak to the observed differences but it was never as obvious or easy to follow as in your review - excellent job!
For $549 the Hisense 55 inch is a steal. Picture is fantastic. This comes from a Sony man.More than happy with this purchase.
So why is FOMO sting the contrary?
I appreciate the nuance in your review. Ironically, Rtings had the X80J as dead last. The U6G has superior ratings in almost every way, and an astounding price. I wish it had motion interpolation, though,
actaully prefer it they set it like mine
Hows your TV now?
Great review.. ! And your point about RTINGS is bang on… I’ve felt for some time now that they are strictly about their numbers, without taking the synergy of how all the choices made regarding technical design come together in real viewing.
Right said
Thanks for the great content it really helps me here in Mexico where budget and availability are a key for gearing up
U6G is a badass TV! I would highly recommend it!
It sucks ass picture quality white to bright
@@runitback8248 maybe you should dial I'm your settings differently. The U6G, is great.
Just bought off Amazon for 399 and yes it’s a badass tv
My heart says U8G, but my wallet screams U6G.
Good video but guy above has a great point.
Also the ug6 does have better blacks👍
Since none are perfect id go with the Hisince cause cheeper or spend over 1000.00 for little better
This is the comparison I was looking for, great review!
Subscribed, you earned it, great job
This is a great video. Can't wait to see how the TCL compares to the X80J. It's great to see there are some decent options under $1000.
Anyway TCL EU was never good, it never, ever had the same nice models that they always had in US and prices are also higher :(
6 series is better but $200 more.
You know what fomo I actually enjoyed this one great comparison brotha
I say the TCL r625 gives all these TVs a run for their money, even the x80j I wish I still had that set. It really did have gorgeous color…Sony like color imo.
01/18/2022 DEAL: it's $500 at Best Buy bit.ly/3rvPxPv
but keep in mind the larger sizes are IPS panels not VA like this 50" model.
@@90lancaster X80J has the best "feel" of all 3 TVs
X85J have IPS panel on some markets, so better check before buy.
@@pablodolaros841 how can you check before you buy? It doesn’t state on the label if it’s ips or va. I think it’s confirm it’s va
@@xBravo412x Funny thing, my Tv turned out to be VA, not IPS. I have done "knocking" test. Check youtube, there are movie clips how to recognize panel type. "afseale" user posted it.
@@pablodolaros841 definitely check it out. You have the x85j, correct? I just picked up the 43 inch. How are you liking it if so?
Great video FOMO. I am really looking forward to the TCL shootout!
Under 700$? Must be USD! Here in Canada as of August 2022 Q60A and X80J are 1200 cad some are cutting price at 900 cad. U6G is more close to 700$ 750 CAD
Our money is very bad here 1usd cost us 1.28$. so buying a 100$ US cost us 128$.
Come to Africa where 1$ = 720 Naira ( Nigeria ), so 100$ = 72,000 Naira
Buying a 700$ Tv will cost around 504, 000 Naira.
( That will pay my rent for 2years in my small apartment and feed me for 8months - 11months, home made food )
Someone's salary per month over here is around 120,000 on average and 60% of the jobs pays less.......some people earn 500,000 Naira, 700,000 Naira & up to 1,000,000 Naira per month but that is just like 20% of the working class doing high jobs like, sailors, pilots, doctors, surgeons, oil sectors and our greedy politicians earns in millions.
And a mid-range tv cost around 700$ ( 504,000 Naira )
I used to earn around 100$ per month 2021 ( using todays currency exchange rate USD - Nigerian Naira )
I decided to quit my job because i spent 70% of my income on transportation and bills, the remaining 30% is for my savings, upkeep and investment. What a shame.

Lets see how many days the hisense works ..
For some people durability matters too.. sony is king in durability and movie.
Did you watch the whole video?
A52 is a smart phone.
I have the Hisense and honestly for the price I can't complain at all.
I was used to sleeping with my last tv playing some 9 hour sleep track, with the U6G i bought, i feel like its giving me a suntan
found an option for the tv to sense the lighting in the room, it helped a little bit.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 that cracked me up
Good call on the Sony. I would also add this comment. I will bet the Sony is more durable and reliable over the long haul as well. Consumer reports sure thinks so too.
As a video professional. I bought the 65' x80j for my mother.. VERY impressive at price point. No contest with others IMO.
I bought X900H for my mom. Sony is TV which does not annoy regular people with anything. Good to recommend for non enthusiasts.
@@reviewforthetube6485 of course Sony OLED is good but their LCD game is lacking minileds from Philips, TCL, and Samsung for enthusiast TVs.
Which would you suggest for exclusively gaming? I have a PS5 and I want good colors and motion in gaming. Would the Q60A still be best for HDR gaming?
I’m a big audio fan, probably more important than the picture. The quality of the picture I can settle for the quality. So I got the A80J in 50” . I live in a Apartment and was very happy with my decision and the remote works on my older Sony HD, and vice versa.
Very Convenient as I always loose them, in bed, in the kitchen. You name it.
You can get the U6G 60” for $370 right now. That’s an amazing bargain!
Wow where that's cheap. Hey is Vizio mq6 as good
yep, today 8 months later it's still cheap at $399 amazon, comes with either firesticktv or google tv. that price is tempting. also it has 4 HDMI and 2 USB and all the AV inputs and ethernet port, visual port, port for headphones and a few others. i think samsung only has 1 usb and 2 hdmi and none of the av inputs.
U6g gets here Monday! Backlight went out in our older Vizio that was a standard 4K from a few years back. Hoping for a subtle upgrade at the very least. Not gonna be using for gaming, just for the boos tv shows mainly and movies ofc (:
Appreciated this review. Very well done. You made many excellent points.
Thank you.
wow finaly u making videos for average day joes... ty much apreciated
The x80j is a good balance in performance.
Ack the TCL 5 series was the other one I was looking at and Hisense u6g was on my radar. Now that I know about the Sony I need the comparison naooooo
Thanks so much, I am searching a TV for friends and I was going for the Q60A but I will consider the X80J
I have a older Sony 32 inch Bravia. Colors are beautiful and picture is sharp. Sony has been doing things right for a very long time.
55" 6 series now costs $900.
should i pick the samsung au8000 or au7000 or hisense u6g?
This part of the market is the bread and butter. The meat. I knew plenty of folks who can afford more expensive tvs but in my expereince most people dont think spend more than 800 dollar on a tv is reasonable. Across my family people compliment my oled and go get a 5-700 dollar tv right after.
Just do live comparison of sony x80j VA panel vs. X80j IPS panel. So this time the battle will reveal its self. Cant wait for this battle.
loved your presentation, thank you.
Nice review, but I need a Samsung - 32" Class Q60A Series QLED 4K UHD Smart Tizen TV. Is this a good tv?
I know these are supposed to be budget TV's but are they like bottom-of-the-barrel, not-meant-to-last TV's? I bought a LG UJ6300 in 2017, I believe it was a bottom of the barrel TV and I bought it new at $800. 4 years later the backlights have turned blue. I just bought a C1 to replace the old LG as my main TV but would still like a secondary TV. Should I be looking a step-above the 3 featured TV's if longevity/build quality is important to me?
Hi! which is one better for you? Sony X750H (VA Panel) vs Hisense U6G (VA Panel)???Please
I think I’ll go with ratings on this one.
Very nicely done here! I enjoy your style and content - went with the Sony!
What. A. Review. Bravo!
Was locking in on an X80J but luckily noticed complaints about the shiny reflective screen. That makes it useless for me as we have big windows.
and lucky for me i saw your comment. good thing too because we have 5 big windows and sliding glass door on top of that, shiny reflective would be horrible here. thanks, that helped narrow down my search.
I would love to see this with the QNED90, the QN90A, and X95J
Thanks for the great info as always
Thank you . In yours experience what good android tv watching movies ?
65" U6G for $649 BestBuy will be delivered on the 14th. I do not think My Daughter mind. I'm getting old 50" Samsung plasma back. It will replace 32" 720 Insignia.
U6g is $779 on Best Buy for me.
@@daspotjoel Correction $699 plus tax
Which one is better Samsung Q60A or LG 50NANO809PA?
What panel you get in sony x80j? VA or IPS?
If you using VA PANEL FOR SONY WELL DEFINITELY WINNER.
but some using ips so we are horrible
Very helpful video! Looking forward to the next comparison. I would be interested to know your thoughts on the next step up for those who can stretch their Dollar. Seems like there are a lot of options at different prices this year.
Excellent video FOMO!! 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you for this video about sub $1000 TVs. Please can you do a video about size next? I only have maximum space for a 42” TV.
I am a Tv guy that works in an electronics store, according to your review, your reviews are just like consumer trying to make a decision that is very very amazing and that's how we use tv : Netflix, youtube, showmax, hbo max, hulu & other broadcast services like in my region it is called DSTV.
I don't really like selling big sizes made by hisense....my customers always says, it's not as clear as seen in the store or as expected using their DSTV broadcast service that only give lower or HD pictures in all its channels. Using Netflix & other high resolution streaming apps that can stream full hd, 4k and hdr content on cheaper brands hides their flaws and that only leave some users with durability & after sales service.
I wish i can start up an electronics store with my 5years experience on entertainment electronics. Capital is dragging me back till date
You see plenty the figures ?
I hope i can work in the US or start up my own showroom. Capital fights me daily.
Really diggin your shirt, Sir!
Please help, thankyou!
thanks for this video, I will take your expert advice!!!
I'm stuck btwn the Sony and the Samsung. I'm leaning toward the Samsung because my living room gets a whole lot of sunlight and i might be okay with a tiny bit of color inaccuracy in order to get a clearer image. Am i off base?
What are your thoughts on the LG UN6955 Series? (Specifically the 65in) Good budget TV?
Or switch to the Google TV app for occasional shows that look weird.
thanks to you ordered the A80J 77 from VE i have 700 blu ray what sony blu ray should I buy ? x700 ? or x800m2 going to buy a few 4k blu ray thanks
Which tv would be best for gaming I just bought a Xbox Series S I also watch a lot movies and sports
Great video 👌
hey I'm thinking of getting the Q60A but I want to know will it go down in price by next month?
Although the absolute black level on the sony is worse than the ss, the q60a just looks hazy next to the sony
If you were trying to decide on a Hisense U6G VS Insignia QLed for about the same price, the U6G being $50 more, which one would you choose???
Not a fair comparison but shall i buy old Samsung q8c vs new q60a ?
SONY X750H vs HISENSE U6G? What do you think about?
"Gaming" should be an important criteria as well.
