  • Hi! In today's video, while I declutter, I "talk" about wearable tech ("Oura" ring), smart homes, and aging-in-place. Let me know what you think! Have a wonderful day!
I added Italian and Finnish subtitles. Later I'll add more.
Btw, even though I talk about the Oura ring, this video is NOT sponsored! 😊

I would love to learn more about Aging-in-Place. Giving people more independence as they age is such a worthy goal. Hopefully other countries will embrace it and also try to figure out what can be done to help our seniors age at home as long as possible.

Yes, I would love to see videos on Nordic aging-in place and your smart home gadgets. I don't think the U.S. is as current as you are on the aging-in-place technology, and it is important.

Being an engineer you would naturally gravitate towards technology. Some people would find that ring quite challenging simply because it adds another layer to an already stressful lifestyle. For instance, I know people who stress about their sleep monitoring so much that the original purpose of becoming aware of one's best sleep strategies is utterly defeated. I suspect that the key to aging in the home involves understanding and connectivity between people and making our home landscapes easier to live in and maintain. Many seniors keep the homes they've raised their children in without realizing how complicated it is to maintain that same home instead of moving to an easier to maintain apartment. You are making a move to decrease the distance between you and the activities you want to engage in. That is a critical component to successful living: recognizing your needs at any given stage in life. Thank you for sharing this outlook. It gives another dimension to how we approach our home landscapes.

We are in the midst of adapting my parents’ house so they can age-in-place. It gives them peace of mind that they can be surrounded by familiarity but not have to deal with the stress and anxiety of downsizing and moving.

I've never heard about aging-in-place and would love to learn some more. I'm 40 but with no family it's my big concern how my life will look like in the future. I'm worried that maybe I will not have enough money to pay for an assistance or to move to a building with an elevator. I can't imagine living with strangers, as I need my peace and rituals. It would be very helpful to know that there are modern options so I could prepare financially or get some knowledge with tech as I'm still capable to do that.

Our small village in the Scottish Highlands has just had 8 new affordable rental homes built, 4 of which have built in technology to monitor vulnerable tenants.

I would love to see how the Nordics are addressing aging in place. We don’t seem to be doing it well here in the US.

Perhaps, technology is not the answer. So many seniors are disconnected from family. Rather than concern ourselves with where to put our seniors, let us make the time to be with them in meaningful ways. It is a winning situation for all generations.

Aging in place is a great idea, better start early with it. Remember there is no happiness found in anything in this world. Happiness is within and this needs to be found before aging.

I have a Fitbit Versa 5. It tracks sleep and movement. I wonder if your Oura ring is better? Or just similar but less obvious than a watch style.

I guess they are very similar, a friend said her Fitbit tracks workouts very well!
