Yep it really happened in the opening cut scene cause zinogre was kicked out of the mountains by the one and only amatsumagatsuchi by using a much more powerful thunder.
Man I started at mh3u and never played portable 3rd or Mh gen u, but I was already aware of the amatsu role in forcing Zinogre to leave its natural habitat. So to see this turf war brings me joy because it's a age old rivalry finally being realized. Also an apex would be mad enough to attack the wind god itself
So for those who say that zinogre just followed utstu like a monstie that is actually wrong there is a very subtle detail that when utstu arives he has a little white cloud on his head that is the effect you get from skinkminks that makes it so when you attack a monster it will always target you and even follow you to other zones so he just hit the ziogre and ran away that's why zinogre takes a bit of time to arrive... Utsu keeps his distance so he won't get attacked it's a really cool detail
I think it was just too weak to resist the mounting state. If you watch closely, it tries to shake it off like normal at first, but gets hit again, weakening it enough to mount.
lol man i was scared when a seen a ? monster im like oh god i gotta fight with 2 elder dragons. now. so you can mount apex monsters now. well idk if its only gonna be for this fight or will we able to mount apex monsters if you have 2 hunters like 1 hunter and 1 followers. or online with 2 hunters.

Fun fact: if you fight amatsu after the first one with only Utsushi, you can get apex zinogre as a invader again
