I have never smoked. my mother died young from smoking because she got copd. In her last years she was continuously ill and could no longer do anything. She needed oxygen constantly, so she couldn't do anything without having an oxygen bottle with her.
Good for you for quitting smoking, I'm glad I never started.

I quit smoking in March after more than 20 years of doing so. I simply couldn't stand the smell of cigarettes on my body any longer. I miss it sometimes, but it was the best decision I could have made. As you say, quitting smoking is all benefits.

I used to smoke weed and tobacco combined in any apparatus i could muster. I quit many years ago out of fear from a health complication, then relapsed. I finally quit for good from grief. I genuinely woke up one day and said "I hate this now its over" boom cold turkey. That feeling of vulnerability hit me hard when i turned 40 as well and it kept me off the drug. Reading helps immensely to stay focused in times of temptation and i dont feel tempted anymore. Im free from the shackles of servitude.

Hey Ana, thank you so much for the video! As an ex-smoker, I agree every word you said on the video! It’s always great to have a young and popular vocal on addiction since the substance is pretty much considered as cool or a way to be involved to a group among young adults/ adults. I quit smoking three years ago after smoking for 15 years, and it is the best decision I’ve ever made! For me, the mental labor of smoking had become unbearable during my last years as a smoker; I couldn’t concentrate on the subject more than an hour because the urge to smoke was so intense that I couldn’t think anything else. Morover, I had to include a cigarette time between and/or during my plans because simply I couldn’t function without that puff. Now, I can get relax before and during my flights, meeting; enjoy the movie nights, museum trips, or simply daily walks with my dog. If I can do it so does anyone! I appreciate your input on the matter, Ana! Thank you so much ❤

I quit because I worked in a residential school for handicapped children and I caught every virus and my sinuses are crappy as it is. I was spending all winter, every winter with sinus infections and bronchitis. No fun.
Cutting down gradually did not work for me because my numbers would slowly creep up again. I had to go cold turkey.
I constantly sucked on Laura Secord suckers while I was quitting. That's a confectionary chain here in Canada and I love their butterscotch and black licorice flavoured ones.
After about 3 weeks I was through the worst of withdrawal and gave those up to save my teeth from all the candy.
Good luck to those beginning this journey.

I smoked for 15 years. Chain Smoking. First thing in the morning last at night. I tried so often and always failed. I would get depressed and was so mentally addicted i couldn´t imagine to have a happy life without cigarettes. And kids don´t do this at home but i stopped smoking with microdosing acid. It increases the neuroplasticity in the brain and it is easier to make new habits (works with drinking as well). And it sounds like a total scam, but i could just decide to not smoke and one week after i sit in a bar with a smoking friend and i just don´t care. I microdosed two weeks and now i am 2 years smokefree and i am happier than ever before. best decision ever.

Wow, the timing on this is impeccable. Thank you so much for this Ana. I quit vaping about a year ago and I’m now trying to stop actual tobacco, and this was like a big hug. I relate to SO much of your story and it’s so motivating to see someone quit, especially someone I really admire! Thank you for sharing your story, I hope to be at the same place with smoking soon as well 🩷🩷🩷

omggg thanks! I saw ur sober video when u first published it and at the time i was considering going sober, then life happened and now I've been TWO months sober (yay!). and then you publish this today, when I've been two DAYS without nicotine (3 weeks without smoking but been using Zyns -- until two days ago!). I really miss cigs T_T but this was useful. "remembering why i stopped" was such a useful tip. i had forgotten that yeah, i feel ugly and gross when i smoke. i would literally have a cig and then have to lay down bc i felt like it took some essential life energy from me. ughhh. ur right that i don't want to feel like that again. thanks !

Omg I had the same journey. I hated to see how little stamina I had and that I stunk. And envisioning myself at an older age still doing it just deterred me more. I actually smoked as a stress reliever and to get more fucked up when I drank heavy back in my partying days. Eventually I quit thank goodness and now it’s been almost a decade BUT……if ever drink more than three drinks, the cravings come back fast and hard lol so luckily I went sober too cause it’s all a domino effect. But it’s bizarre how alcohol suddenly makes the smell of cigarettes so damn enticing but when I’m sober I can’t stand it hahah. But I’m so glad you quit finally! It’s just not worth it in the end. It’s just a money pit and it’s so bad for your health. There is no positives. Try to find one and I’m sure there’s a better alternative to whatever you THINK it’s solving or helping.

I always thought smoking was alluring, and always wanted to try it. When I was 21 I finally tried one...One of my lungs felt like it was on fire for 20 minutes, and then continued burning for a couple hours. I had to breathe in steam to help the pain and never touched a cigarette again.

Smoking cessation takes 6 attempts, or more, then. I haven’t smoked… I did have a dream where I had to eat packs and I liked it (in the dream).
The most successful way is nicotine replacement therapy (like nicotine nasal spay). If gives you some of the same addictive parts but also requires you to ease off.
Why do I know anything? My ex wife was a pharmacist and I used to go to her classes when she was in pharmacy school… and the smoking cessation class was really interesting.
I was an officer on a ship and thought it might help to talk to some smokers on my ship.
Great message is, don’t give up if you fail at first…. That’s normal and doesn’t make you a failure.
Great job and good luck to anyone who wants to quit.

Keith Richards admitted that giving up heroin was easier than giving up cigarettes (many drug addicts concur).
I tried my first cigarette when I was eight or nine (don’t ask). Never became an addiction...
And you should take a bow! 🚭😊

As a relatively new Hypnotherapist I have seen that Hypnotherapy is also highly effective for this ! But - I recommend going to someone who goes to the ROOT cause, rather than just using Aversion Therapy (it can be effective but not necessarily long term!) People have amazing results this way. You can do this!

I quit smoking 24 years ago and I loved my cigarettes 🚬 but it was one of the best things I did for myself and I’m so glad I did it. They were about $4 a pack when I quit which was a lot and I can’t imagine paying $15 a pack now. Best of luck to anyone who wants to quit. It’s not easy but it’s well worth it!

As someone who used to hate the smell of cigarettes (like it would make me nauseous) but now smokes, I don’t “love” the smell now, but I associate it with the nicotine feeling so strongly that the smell both intrigues me and disgusts me. It’s the oddest feeling.

I love this story and identify so much with it. Smoking was such a hard habit to break for me as i smoked from age 14 (i was a little bad girl) until my mid 20’s and started vaping around 2020. I vaped HARD until 2022 when I found out i was pregnant and when i saw the pregnancy test I allyooped the vape over my shoulder into the trash can and said to my husband he had two weeks left to quit vaping but he couldnt do it around me. It SUCKED. But once you get past it… smoking doesn’t look cool anymore and it smells so bad. It was such a part of my “cool girl” identity when I was younger… coffee and cigarettes and fucking jack kerouac novels but athe two seem equally cringey to me as a 33 year
    old mom now 😂

I can't relate with the drinking thing, because I was born not liking alchoolic drinks....fortunatelly. But smoking... Now that's something I looooved to do. Smoked for about 10 years. In an increasing fashion. Knew it would be devastating for my health, knew that there were people in this world making huge money at the expense of it. And one day, in august of 1989, in the middle of a heavy duty bronchitis, I spend one day not smoking, then two.... And it was one of the hardest things I did in my life. It took years for the craving to calm down. But I did it. Even today, decades later, it still is here, under my skin, in my tongue.... weak, but it's still here, the craving. Cigarettes are one of the worst man made things in the world. Like Chris Rock said: smokjng is so dangerous, it kills people that don't smoke!». Wanna see the power of the tabacco industry? In almost every movie or tv series you'll see, there will be someone lighting a cigarette in close up, in the first 5, 10 minutes... Now that's power and influence. At the expense of our health.
