    Way to go back and change the title of this video to Elliot's correct name!! Not all shows with clips on here are making the effort and it makes me lose respect for them. Late Night with Seth Meyers continues to be the best late night talk show.

    Wow. Incredibly impressed that Seth and his team thought of and made the effort to change video titles. Seems inconsequential but it isn't. Way to go Seth & Co! (And a thumb in the eye to those who say that a change of name/pronouns when addressing the past is unnecessary or factually/grammatically wrong.)

    • @the_ag_101
      @the_ag_101 2 года назад +2

      Well, it's not a question of a "thumb in the eye" of anybody, it's simply the matter of how Elliot Page referred to himself at the time of recording of the show.
      Does everything ever done by Bruce Jenner also need to be revised now, because it's the current state of affairs?
      There's also the matter of Seth addressing Elliot as "Ellen" to his face in this very video, and Elliot being perfectly fine with it.
      So, again, it's not a matter of proving anything to anyone, it's a matter of consistency.
      If they're gonna change the title, why would they keep the part where Seth calls Elliot "Ellen"?
      Either do it 100% or don't do it, don't half-ass it.

    • @Longleke.
      @Longleke. 2 года назад +1

      Psssh notice the pronoun in the video description? "Seth preps Elliot Page for THEIR Human..." THEIR. Not his. Their.
      That's a thumb in the eye to those who say that a change of name/pronouns is oh so simple. It indicates that Seth's social media team just doesn't want to have to deal with this indecisive bullshit again lmao

      Meyers literally called Elliot Page "Ellen Page" to his face in this clip.
      If they're gonna retroactively change the title of the clip to reflect the present rather than the past, why keep the "Ellen Page" part in?
      You might or might not like what I said, but how is what I said in any way untrue, i.e. a "bad take"?

      It is proper etiquette to refer to a trans person, including in the past, with their current name and pronouns. Imagine it this way. A cis person decides for whatever reason to start going by their middle name instead of their first name.
      When talking about that person, would you use their old name when talking about them as a child and their new name when talking about things currently? Of course you wouldn't. It would be rude and confusing. It's not any different because the person is trans.
      And in case you think that a first name change in a cis person is unlikely, I have known two people who have done this. One because they were named after their mother which in their late teens they decided was annoying another because their first name was foreign, hard to pronounce and spell and they didn't like the shortened/anglicized version. And that doesn't even count people who change their names when they marry. You would never say, "When Mrs. Smith was a child... Oops, when she was Miss Johnson! ...."
      It's okay to get this wrong. Society is in a learning curve on trans issues and etiquette is being created as we speak. That's okay. Societal norms change. But refusing to change even when the people affected say it causes harm, well that's just being regressive, rude and hurtful all because you don't feel easy about the changes.
