Nomination of the week: Survivalist

"I was in a transition state of moving to a different apartment, and it was quite a scary time to change (...) I was kind of worried about my living situation, and that was what initially inspired the tent trench," explains designer Emi Tanimura, creator of the Survivalist collection.
This #indexaward2023 nominee is a two-look ultra-functional #sustainable collection that can also provide temporary shelter to rough sleepers. ⛺️ The bottom half of the trench coat can easily detach and instantly inflate into a one-person tent. Rather than the whole coat turning into a shelter, the trench coat detaches from the waist so that you're still left with a jacket for warmth.
"Not only do I want my garments to be functional and long-lasting for consumers, but nowadays, I think it's really important to consider the whole #design process. Where you're getting your fabrics from, what impact they have on the environment, and if you're working with ethical manufacturers that pay the workers fair wages."
