This scene was cool since it taught an important lesson about money management and spending habits. I thought the "guns and butter" reference was a funny way of describing solid vs. sloppy investment choices: losing vs. gaining money. We are encouraged more to spend than to save money once we have jobs. If you look at the media especially you see this a lot with all the commercials for special sales on clothes at stores like Macy's and JC Penny. With commercialization a necessity (like clothes) becomes more of a desire due to how cool it looks as opposed to a tool to serve it's main purpose of protecting us from the elements (rain, wind, etc). So now everyone has twenty pairs of shoes due to how cool they look when they likely will only where two or three of those pairs of shoes over the course an entire year. It kind of comes down to a culture of greed and excess if you think about it.
+Jonathan Akerele I agree. Also Black people are the Number #1 Consumers in America at that where we buy materialism things left and right even when we don't need it. We're the type to stand in line for hours or even days to buy that New iPhone or Cop those new Jordans (Although their current items have nothing wrong with them), just to stunt on other individuals who don't have it. Meanwhile White Corporations are laughing at how black people like us are dying and scratching away just to get those things while getting by. I noticed this long time ago how Blacks especially buy these things not only to "stunt and feel good" but to stress their self Worth. Buying Multiple pair of Jordans, gotta drive Foreign whips, as if they set their Self Value based on the Material things they possess.
+Julian Prince It's not exactly the same as slavery because no one is putting a gun to one's head and forcing them to buy these various expensive material goods or risk death (although even today gang affiliated youth in some neighborhoods will still kill each other over this stuff which is needless and sad) , but there is one common link between modern consumerism and slavery: a mentality of inadequacy. This applies to women also with the cosmetic, fashion, and weight loss industries. These money machines operate to take our money and make us feel like losers regardless of what we already possess or have already accomplished. I see it as a contributing factor in the "loneliness" epidemic you hear about today where people are not taught to value each other and are not taught how to work through difficult emotions so as to sustain relationships despite feeling hurt at times. What you end up with is a species of hostile strangers. =(
I feel you man as a 21 year old I feel like most of the people around my age are only focused on the materialistic shit that don't matter after you get it. I see friends of mine putting so much money pride and joy into their cars with customizations and they ain't got no real future to look forward to other than a dead end job. They even get so caught up in chasing the money and bullshit that they don't even think about what their true purpose in life is they just cool with flexing on social media with all the stuff they bought
+Julian Prince most minorities tend to buy things that are the loud flashy type of nice (jordans, lebrons, jewelry, car customizations like gold rims and bright paint colors & loud stereo system. The reason is they want to look like they have money to afford all this nice shit but the main difference is people who really have money either don't show it off at all or they're just subtle about it and don't try too hard just to show a bunch of strangers that they can afford nice things you can just tell by their demeanor or they dress classy
thedarkknight646 You got that right. This brings up that infamous documentary Broke about athletes blowing all their money on "junk" to impress strangers they who won't acknowledge them once their playing days are over. Your comment also says a lot about the mentality of dudes who spend their money for attention. They have no internal motivation to improve themselves gradually over time to establish a stable modest lifestyle for themselves so instead they live like they will be dead the next day and go the distance by spending everything they have on whatever pleasure they can grab so when they take their last breath they can say I had a blast. Problem is most of them won't die the next day necessarily but they will be broke and homeless and jobless and unemployable and on the street and that's how some end up in prison when they resort to crime to get money. Makes for a really sad cycle of desperation.
This was Melvin’s best attempt at showing love to his next generation. All of them were brought up in a rough environment so it’s hard for people like us to express love. Giving free education is love… minus the insults maybe lol

I hear yah😂😂

I think you meant just Jody who got scared from hearing that. Pea wasn’t even scared of Melvin if you pay attention right there😂😂
This shit had me dying. He shut they goofy ass up 😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
To call pea a goofy just shows how much of a goofy YOU are 🤡
This was Melvin’s best attempt at showing love to his next generation. All of them were brought up in a rough environment so it’s hard for people like us to express love. Giving free education is love… minus the insults maybe lol
"Want me to take him out"
He was shaving his head straight dry without looking in a mirror, that would've done it for me 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@sheltonechols26 even the razor bumps didn't want no smoke 😂😂😂
Reminds me of Major Payne
I listen to this speech every time my direct deposit hit to keep things in perspective.
@Trill Sp I'm The Same Way Especially When Maturity Is Involved I'm Blessed With You Brother
That's epic!

He is right about that.
Been wanting to see Pea and Melvin go at it one on one but then you see pea showing some type of respect after the guns and butter speech, real recognize real lol
Pea peeped the game right away. Free knowledge the most valuable thing on this Earth.

If you noticed P registered what Melvin said. P realized that Melvin was right that’s why at the end of the scene it panned of P showing the reflection. Jody was being hard headed.
Exactly sweet pea knew. Just like he demanded respect from those kids he respected Melvin
You saw how P looked at Melvin at the end of the scene. He was like.. Ol Dude kicking knowledge.
False!
Value on Investment
sounds alot like your interpretation, based on what you want vs what actually is
Jody wasn't trying to hear it! Pea was like "damn that was some real shit."
& I hope he hears me 👂
The end when malvin said (waaaahhh?) 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
GREATEST FINANCIAL SPEECH EVER IN 2 MINUTES!
😂👍
My dad doesn’t give me this speech I had to play this 10 times and I learned my lesson on my spending evil spending habits Bc us black or white mostly have evil spending habits on we don’t need in our life’s why we need a gun for if it’s ment to kill why need jewelry or nice car that doesn’t mean shit after I buy it only gonna come with jealousy and gold diggers who like you for what you wear on your body
@@machayacrandell4536 straight facts
Seemed more like after Melvin spoke, Peewee didn't want to kill him anymore. He stopped listening to Jody because he caught on to the fact, that the OG said some of the realest most helpful shit in his entire life that his own daddy probably never taught him. No doubt Peewee would have tried to kill him before he said that. But afterwards, he realized dude was trying to teach Jody and him tough love. While it went over Jody head.
Exactly
baby boy was spittin barz
Rodney Tillis , he sounded like dmx
jay ceo if he sounded like dmx Melvin would of heard everything

It’s crazy to think Jody felt he was smarter than Melvin yet Melvin peeped the Oedipus Complex with Jody and his mom and he understood how assets and liabilities work, and not only that, but he understood how to translate it to terms that could he understood by people who may not completely understand the concept.
